Evening all, good wishes to you.

Starting by stating the obvious, this is Gransnet. By its very name, the majority of members who might have done an online search looking for forums for those of a like mind, are likely to be women. Some will be men, of course, and I'm sure they are very welcome. Often (not always!) their input can be of great value and enable a different viewpoint on the topic.

Although I have not asked GNHQ for a breakdown of figures (surely they have enough on there plate at present) chances are they might:

A) Not have them (names don't necessarily indicate gender) or:

B) Cannot release the figures due to data protection.

Now, with these things in mind, shall we look at the logic?

With more female members than male, who is more likely to be posting on forums? And (in certain circumstances, and on certain threads) WHO are they likely to be posting about?

In the main, these posts are posted with humour and affection.

Surely they can be accepted and taken as such, without being seen as a "dig" or attack, or put down?

I hope this post is taken in the spirit that it is meant.

Marydoll, the best part of all this is my other half is doing what I should be doing in regards to the work for the company as I have gone on strike.

I am coming to quite like this arrangement, but somehow I cannot see it lasting.

I feel rebellion brewing in the office. There is steam coming from under the door. ?

Grandad1943 Thu 02-Apr-20 14:18:44

I don't know about clapping tonight for key workers, I think she will be clapping her hands on my head by then.?

Marydoll Thu 02-Apr-20 14:22:08

Grandad, do I detect a touch of humour? Heaven forbid! ?

Grandad1943 Thu 02-Apr-20 14:35:20

To keep the peace I have just volunteered to get the tea. However, I have just been told it is liver, bacon, onions, tomatoes, peas and her favourite slimming world chips.

Wish I had not volunteered now, a lot of faffing about cooking that lot. ?

There must be some excuse why I cannot do it now I can dream up. ?

DH is preparing the dinner while I sit and loll on here.
I did do some gardening this morning while he lolled around doing his jigsaw.
Shall I ask what he's making for pudding as well?

Grandad1943 Thu 02-Apr-20 14:47:45

I would not push your luck that far Callistemon. I would make a cup of tea and produce a couple of digestive biscuits for pudding.

Callistemon Thu 02-Apr-20 14:49:47

It's in the oven and I've just been offered a brew

Mark the date on the calendar
Actually, he is quite a good tea boy.

This lockdown is going to change how the whole world works.

Everyone will be doing exactly the opposite of what we all doing at the start.

What a wonderfull world that could be. ?

Marydoll Thu 02-Apr-20 14:59:01

STOP, Grandad, humour and sentimentality, you are unnerving me. ?

Callistemon Thu 02-Apr-20 14:59:34

The brew is taking rather a long time, he must be lolling again

Grandad1943 Thu 02-Apr-20 16:47:56

Well, tea cooked, eaten and all cleared up and we are now sat with a nice cup of tea and a hot cross bun. How's that for a domesticated husband.?

While I was sweating over a hot stove, Carol my wife has been ringing around all the staff we require back to work and that has gone well. It would seem they will all be very pleased to "get back in the saddle" and doing what they know and do best.

I am now wondering if that is the wishful thinking by very many throughout the country that are laid off?

However, it's been an enjoyable day for me just to get away from it all, do something different and have a laugh on here.

Callistemon Thu 02-Apr-20 16:56:40

Yes, keep Britain moving, Grandad!!

I can smell our dinner cooking.
May mention pudding in a few minutes.

Marydoll Thu 02-Apr-20 17:00:35

Grandad, this bonhomie is disconcerting me! grin

Glad to hear your staff are getting back to work.
I was talking to a doctor today and she was saying that the Govt advice to them kept changing.
They were being diverted to another area, then they weren't, then they were. All very discombobulating. sad

Grandad1943 Sat 04-Apr-20 07:18:40

fat gran57 in regard to your post @06:43 today, it is lovely of you to place that wonderful selfie of yourself on the forum for us all to view.

However, could you please try a little harder and expand on what it is I am supposed to have "done again".

Year's back a was always getting it placed on my school reports "must put more effort in and try harder" ?

Marydoll Sat 04-Apr-20 08:28:00

Grandad, do you not have bathrooms to clean? ?
No working from home today and no slacking with your chores.

Marydoll we were just debating whether to start household jobs or go for a walk on the seafront.

My other half still wants me to wash and clean out the inside of her car while she does the upstairs shower room. Well, she is most definitely not getting away with that. All that lovely chrome, glass and stainless steel to polish into gleaming pride, while I toil away on her car.... no way.

That shower room also has a detachable crapper seat which enables you to get into every place that exists on that toilet which I just love. She will take that job away from me over my dead body.

I think the walk on the seafront may be the neutral alternative for both of us.??

Marydoll Sat 04-Apr-20 10:19:49

Oh how I envy that walk on the seafront! sad Enjoy!
The shower room can wait!

We can be at the coast in just over 30 minutes, which was a part of our weekly routine. I can only dream.

Callistemon Sat 04-Apr-20 10:25:11

If it's the seafront I'm thinking of, I am walking along in my mind. Is the pier still open Grandad?

Marydoll Sat 04-Apr-20 10:35:12

A bag of chips, followed by an ice cream, smothered in raspberry sauce.?. This is torture!

Grandad1943 Sat 04-Apr-20 12:31:40

Marydoll, Callistemon, in the end, it was decided that would clean the shower room which is now absolutely sparkling and I am now sat here in quiet satisfaction and pride at my extremely rewarding efforts. It now fit for our Queen following her coming into all our homes for her broadcast on Sunday. ?

Having just made a post on the political threads, we will probably be going for a walk along the seafront. However, it is a poor shadow of what it is in normal times with the pier shut down along with all the pubs, cafes, restaurants and stalls.

We do not normally walk along that section of the seafront however, preferring instead the open country section between Clevedon and Kewstoke towards the outskirts of Weston Super Mare.

So there are no ice creams or bags of chips as all is closed wherever you may go on the seafront, sadly.

It all seems very strange as it would really now begin to liven up at this juncture of year in normal times.

Grandad1943 I meant that once again you had come out of your shell and shown us that you have a good sense of humour. Nothing sinister in my post, I am enjoying your replies smile
