Following from the post of sodapop it seems the net result of this thread and our discussion is that the page labelled as Acronyms needs to be replaced with a page labelled as Abbreviations and the word 'acronyms' removed.

I hope that GNHQ will arrange this please.

I doubt it. Actually I’d be annoyed if they did as there are other changes that have been requested myriad times to no avail.

There is a saying "Do not grumble away your opportunities".

So, if there are changes that you want made, you could start a new thread in the Site Stuff forum with a title such as

Could GNHQ make these changes please?

and then requests could be made and there could possibly be good results.

A positive approach often generates good results.

Not as far as I’m concerned nanna. I don’t know anyone who peppers talk about offspring, grandchildren or spouses with ‘dear’ or ‘darling’. And EP wants even more of this tosh. I’m going to go down the garden and scream.

I’d never come across these Ds before I came to this site. I thought it must be a British thing.

For heaven’s sake, don’t we all have better things to think about than GN’s wretched abbreviations?

Oh and just by the way I don’t treat my daughter in law as my daughter (I don’t have one) I treat her as a good friend.

I dont think GN has a policy that daughters in law should be treated as daughters, you may have seen people on the site saying that but I dont think GN have ever announced a position on it.

Some threads make it very clear that mother and daughter are at odds for all kinds of reasons and some daughters are anything but D to their parents.

As are some husbands to their wives!

NB ElderlyPerson these are not acronyms just lazy abbreviations.

Upon checking, I found that those that I have suggested are indeed not acronyms.

Also some of those in the Gransnet list are not acronyms and some could be but in practice are not always used as acronyms.
