Urmstongran today made a suggestion to GNHQ that the above two subjects should have their own threads. Apparently we have to register our approval or interest here.
So yes, please please, please.

growstuff Fri 10-Dec-21 10:04:02

PS. Please could we have a Royal Family section?

Alegrias1 Fri 10-Dec-21 10:09:45

But growstuff where would I have put my Barbados thread?

News - because that's what it was?

Proper politics - regarding the nature of democracy?

RF - no more monarchy?

Chat - just because?

wink

Sorry Urms and others who want to split news and politics.
My own opinion is that it couldn't work. All news is political in one way or another.

Cat stuck up a tree for four hours - cut backs to rescue services.
Birth of a baby in Anytown - are we overpopulated.
Joe Bloggs has a tummy ache - is our water quality good enough.
Gransnet opinion against split - should the elderly be allowed their very own site, is this discriminatory.

It's a no from me for what its worth.

Sometimes I find it difficult to decide which heading to post on. Does it really matter?

... not to mention MUMSNET grin

Agree. No need.
Unless this is an attempt to avoid any kind of debate?

Man attends A&E with incendiary device stuck up his backside, Bomb Squad called in (see my link)
It's News but is it Politics?

It's certainly not Chat

Zoejory Fri 10-Dec-21 12:20:21

News and politics tends to be mainly politics. Which is fine for those who like debating politics.

Many aren't that keen on the politics threads.

But they might be very interested discussing Calistemon's news story about the man with the bomb up his butt.

I did read about that. He alleged that he fell on it. Which I doubt very much.

This was on Twitter and tbh was the funniest thread for ages.
So where would this fit?

nanna8 Fri 10-Dec-21 12:43:18

This is all getting too political…..

^What I think Urmstongran is getting at is what she tried to achieve a few months ago by posting topics in chat, for people to have a free discussion about news items without being jumped on by the ‘pc police’, for views to be unchallenged by those with a political viewpoint (I include myself).^

Exactly, Casdon. They want a nice cosy place where they can all nod in agreement with each other...

Ah, yes! Like the many Conservative bashing echo chambers.

... meant to ask - is this actually true? Posted before I asked the question...

Dickens Fri 10-Dec-21 12:51:41

... and the question is - did a man really have an incendiary device stuck in his bottom? I can't bring myself to Google it as I might get some funny mails in my inbox after such a search?

No, that one goes under humour

yes, it would appear so. He was working in his shed and fell over and somehow sat on an incendiary device.

lemongrove Fri 10-Dec-21 12:54:43

Dickens I wouldn't be at all surprised if it really was true.?

lemongrove Fri 10-Dec-21 12:55:31

So he was naked at the time.....

Kandinsky Fri 10-Dec-21 12:58:32

On mumsnet they have a dedicated Brexit topic ( which 99% have hidden )
It’s great because those who want to talk about brexit can do so without boring everyone else.
I know we’ll never get a brexit topic here because there’s not enough of us, but separating news from politics is at least a step in the right direction!

nanna8 Fri 10-Dec-21 13:03:52

The medicos in our family tell some funny tales about some of the emergency admissions they get, without identifying anyone of course! I’d believe that story. Very painful I’d think. Perhaps he thought he was Guy Fawkes?

Yes, it's true, Dickens, I was told the other day; it happened last week and he attended Gloucester Hospital.
I asked the friend who told me if the Bum Squad attended but no, it was the Bomb Squad.
It has been in the local news.

Oh my goodness - I was at the Royal Gloucestershire Hospital last week, and saw a couple of squad cars... but that's not unusual because there's often some argy-bargy going on - especially in A&E at the weekends!

,,, don't really keep up with local news, but will have a look now. I really thought it was one of those fake news stories!

MaizieD Fri 10-Dec-21 14:05:17

Nobody excludes the tory supporters from them, lemon.
