Urmstongran today made a suggestion to GNHQ that the above two subjects should have their own threads. Apparently we have to register our approval or interest here.
So yes, please please, please.

A colleague of mine is very similar but she is dealing with such a range of complex long term problems that if I were her I would be lucky to get dressed every day never mind give politics a thought. Politics in many ways is a luxury.

Many of her issues are impacted greatly be politics of course but in a sense that doesnt matter.

Politics in many ways is a luxury.
Interesting thought Galaxy and yes, you're right that it isnt top priority when people have larger issues or problems, even if only in their minds.

Not sure about that. Look at the riots and strikes by the poor and dispossessed over the centuries. Massacres, oppression and general ill treatment of the ordinary working poor throughout British history.

Politics may be "the art of the possible" but it is also the means of addressing and, hopefully, righting wrongs.

I cannot see how a "news without politics" forum could appeal to many, OK it might be nice to hear a good news story - fireman rescues cat stuck up a tree - awww!

But so what?

Bad news stories inevitably have a political dimension.

Hi all, and apologies for the delay.
We've read the thread and discussed this in the virtual office - we'll keep the News and Politics section as a single area for now.

We think the single section does a good job of covering current events and can see that Gransnetters are discussing a range of stories and issues in there.

We note that some threads already have 'News: title' or 'Politics: title' as an indication of their intent - so feel free to keep testing that format and see if it works for you.
