Is anyone else's screen infested with 'Gransnet videos', the current one called Am I Being Unreasonable? concerning a wedding? I have reported it.

eazybee Tue 08-Nov-22 12:19:18

It was 'being discussed' on October 15th.
How long does a discussion take?
It is fairly obvious the membership does not want or even read these things, so........
How Much Longer?

I access GN on my phone and don’t come on very often now as they’re just so annoying. I have never watched one either.

Hetty58 Tue 08-Nov-22 10:20:33

I don't use GN on my phone, only my laptop. I've installed the free Adblock Plus - so never see any adverts.

Squiffy Tue 08-Nov-22 10:14:55

They are driving me insane! They interrupt my train of thought, which doesn't need any help at the best of times!

As soon as I scroll past the video ad, the corner one pops up.

DanniRae Sun 06-Nov-22 09:52:45

Still there ...........angry

Doodledog Sat 05-Nov-22 22:09:20

I can nuke them on the laptop, which is how I usually browse GN, but not on my phone. They are very annoying, and I doubt they sell very much, as I just click them off as soon as they appear. I have no idea what any of them are selling.

LillyGransnet - Can you please remove the videos of men and women strutting about in very colourful underwear. I am finding it quite offensive. If you remove it it just reappears straight away angry

Glad it's not just me. You need to get rid of these ads, GN. Or are you making money out of them? Either way, you will lose customers, me included.

Hi all

The adverts are a new format we are testing.

You can't click off the advert that appears in the thread, but you can close the one on the bottom right by clicking the X button.

We really appreciate all of your feedback on this and we are discussing it. flowers

Yes you can click them off but when you move the screen they pop back up.

Hi all

Just to say, thanks for your feedback - we will be discussing it and will get back to you as soon as possible.

Any news on this it comes in front of my typing - like this

Same here JackyB. I’m using my phone and these annoying videos popping up obscure a large section of the screen. A very annoying distraction which I’m trying to ignore.

If these videos are actually advertising something then the marketing is lost on me. I have the sound muted on them and if the X works I close them.

JackyB Fri 14-Oct-22 09:03:19

I have started getting these videos in the bottom right hand corner. No idea what they're for as I close them (when the X works) straight away. So they are counterproductive, a waste of time, money, space and coding - if I did bother to notice what they were for, I would refuse to buy that product.

They probably don't apply to me anyway as I don't live in the UK.

They really are extremely intrusive as I usually access GN on my phone and space on the screen is limited.

Callistemon21 Thu 13-Oct-22 18:44:41

News!
The UK Covid jobs are being rolled out, apparently!
And the Chancellor announces furlough!

Really, GNHQ, can't you do better than this?

henetha Thu 13-Oct-22 18:24:08

When I'm browsing GN on my phone, as I am now, when I try to write in a thread these videos are actually in the way, obscuring part of the screen. This is annoying ☹️

CocoPops Thu 13-Oct-22 17:05:21

I used to enjoy GN. but the invasion of these ads really spoils it. I have decided to limit my time on the site to once a week and to only one forum from now on.

SusieB50 Thu 13-Oct-22 15:37:47

I can’t click off the ad in the bottom right the x in the circle does nothing (I’m using an iPhone) it’s driving me mad and I will stop using gransnet if it continues.

Millie22 Thu 13-Oct-22 14:01:06

Hello Lily gnhq

The new format with box ads is really irritating. I understand the need for advertising but please not like this.

lemsip Thu 13-Oct-22 13:56:47

seems to have gone from my laptop now thank goodness. they were an intrusion.

MawtheMerrier Thu 13-Oct-22 13:54:09

Frankly Lilygransnet the site has shot itself in the foot.
If others like me feel it’s too much hassle to plough through videos which obscure what we want to read or post, membership will be plummeting.
As a good idea it ranks along with Truss’s and Kwazi’s mini budget - time for a U-turn.

But LilyGransnet, they are old adverts and videos.

Boris Johnson is no longer Prime Minister
Rishi Sunak is no longer Chancellor
We are no longer in lockdown
Children are back at school.

eazybee Thu 13-Oct-22 11:27:44

I DO mind the ones in the middle as they dominate the screen.
I am unable to remove them but I do not want them there in the first place. Read the feedback. I don't see what there is to discuss.

Aveline Thu 13-Oct-22 11:21:05

Please GNHQ make these irritating intrusive adverts go away. Unless you're trying to get rid of Grans?

FannyCornforth Thu 13-Oct-22 10:37:32

Hi*Lily*, personally, I don’t mind the ones in the middle.
I should imagine that this may also be the case for others, as they were never mentioned before the pesky ‘bottom’ ones arrived

Mizuna Thu 13-Oct-22 10:34:57

Lily, you can't always close the video by clicking on the x - quite often it doesn't work. As I write this message the video is running because I can't close it and it's covering half of the box I'm writing in. I appreciate that you are a business and need revenue from advertising but these pop-ups are a a mistake, in my opinion. For what it's worth I had a marketing business before I retired and I certainly didn't aim to irritate my customers, as this is obviously doing.

Chestnut Thu 13-Oct-22 10:33:38

I can only suggest you Google cannot install Adblock and see what comes up which might help. I have a desktop computer with Google Chrome and have had no trouble installing it, and more importantly see no adverts at all!! So I cannot see any of the ghastly things being discussed. Keep trying, girls.
