Every time I type a post, I move from the message box to check it out and hit an advert which takes over and directs me elsewhere.

I'm too fed up to continue at the moment, but I will try and post this before the clutter gets me.

The first time today. Right in the middle of a thread so that you can’t skip by them.

Delila Mon 23-Jan-23 16:44:58

I’ve sent a screenshot to GNHQ.

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 23-Jan-23 16:46:46

GNHQ have commented - it’s a new trial, I doubt that they will listen when I tell them I hate it.

Farzanah Mon 23-Jan-23 16:48:18

I don’t think this is Oops. They didn’t say that to me.

AnnieGransnet

Hi all - thanks for your feedback - we're certainly discussing this at GNHQ. As Lily said on the other thread, this is something we're trialling. You can't click off the advert that appears in the middle of the thread, but you can close the video on the bottom right by clicking the X button.

You can’t turn the ad off, it’s extremely annoying

😡

AnnieGransnet, it would be helpful if you would give advance warning of this sort of trial, to save us from trying all sorts of useless tweaks on our devices in an attempt to put right what feels like a problem.

eazybee Mon 23-Jan-23 18:59:13

These adverts have been trialled since October 2022.
Just exactly how long do you need to discuss them?
One appeared last week from Barclays, 2014.

These were not the usual ads. They were popping up and interfering on the threads. I have an ad blocker. stopped now. They only started on my ipad today and have stopped now.

Oopsadaisy1 Mon 23-Jan-23 20:18:50

They seem to have stopped………..let’s hope permanently.

JaneJudge Mon 23-Jan-23 20:22:00

Shinamae Mon 23-Jan-23 20:24:07

Auntieflo Mon 23-Jan-23 20:26:18

In the last 2/3 minutes, no room to post more screen shots

BlueBelle Tue 24-Jan-23 04:11:06

Delila and grannygravy the same for me on an iPad never had any problem suddenly I realise what everyone is on about as they are popping up on every thread

annsixty Tue 24-Jan-23 04:34:29

And also on each page on a long thread.
I dislike it heartily.

FannyCornforth Tue 24-Jan-23 05:11:20

The adverts are obviously here to stay.
Like it or lump it!

MrsKen33 Tue 24-Jan-23 05:51:38

Some large adverts keep popping up in the middle of a thread . One for ‘Little Steps’. They are incredibly annoying and distracting. How on earth can you remove them ?

Carenza123 Tue 24-Jan-23 06:02:38

I use an iPad and suddenly am finding these annoying ads popping up! So annoying!

nanna8 Tue 24-Jan-23 06:44:18

I don’t get many- probably they think I am too far away. I do get them on my main computer though. They are irrelevant and so far not one of them of any interest whatsoever, just irritating. Certainly not targeted like the ones on Facebook.

BlueBelle Tue 24-Jan-23 07:39:41

I ve never had them before on my iPad but they are so bad huge flashing ones in the middle of someone’s post makes it totally impossible to read
GRANSNET SORT IT OUT

Doodledog Tue 24-Jan-23 07:42:26

They won’t sort it out as it will be revenue for them. The advertisers are wasting their money though, if nobody watches them, and GN will lose money if people leave as a result and their viewing figures fall.

NanKate Tue 24-Jan-23 07:50:44

I think a lot of people will abandon GN if these annoying adverts in the middle of a thread keep popping up. They are so large too.

TillyTrotter Tue 24-Jan-23 08:26:41

Gransnet has been running for 12 years? without the need for this ‘revenue’ so why is it necessary now?
Surely mumsnet is a better place to pitch them?

M0nica Tue 24-Jan-23 09:26:58

My AdBlocker is keeping all ads at bay. I have dyspraxia and ads, even just around the text I am reading can make it impossible for me to read it. If the ads contain movement, then I have no alternative than coming out of the site I am on. Too much visual clutter around the text I want to read and it becomes unreadable.

Farzanah Tue 24-Jan-23 09:34:34

The very large intrusive ads in the middle of posts interrupting reading anything, some of us complaining about, which were appearing on my site, have stopped after complaining to GN. They are not regular pop up ones. Seems to have been affecting mainly iPads.
I am very cross because I have not agree to ads at all on my preferences, and I think something went wrong at GN at the weekend. I’ve never had them before, but won’t tolerate them in the future and would rather unsubscribe.
