Has anyone on GN got the right to give private information about you?

(593 Posts)

GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.

Surely not. People on GN should have the right to anonimity, unless they choose to divulge any private information, be it about profession, locality, ethnicity, or whatever.

Secondly, should any information given in a PM be fair game to share to other members? Surely not.

MissAdventure

Ooh I love cats.

My daughter loved her dog to a ridiculous extent, but she said her heart still did a little "in love" flip when she saw her cat nipping in. smile

I dream of finding an abandoned kitten on my doorstep.

I'd have to take it in...

A feral cat gave birth to a solitary ginger kitten in my neighbours garden. He wasn’t keen on cats and his wife is allergic to them but they took it in ( the mother went to rescue). I’ll never understood why she didn’t give birth in my garden because, although I’d resolved not to have another cat I certainly wouldn’t have turned one away and I’d always wanted a ginger cat.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 05:48:13

I share that fantasy MissA
But I do already have a cat. She’s an absolute angel, she’s so gentle.
Next door’s cat is madly in love with her and follows her everywhere.

Miss A, my dream job is being a kitten photographer. Sigh, as if!

You’d need the patience of a saint. Cats are really difficult to photograph.

There are a few posters on here who have already been temporarily banned. They'd do well to remember that and keep their noses clean if they really rely on the site for friendship and support. They're not innocent victims by any means GG13.

New members haven't seen their shenanigans, but some of what has gone on wasn't good at all. It was horrible and very unkind.

Who are you Gagajo to say this to everyone? Are you a mod?
Sounds like it.
Or a spokesperson for the OP?
This thread is dingo crazy.

I expect a number of posters remember the ‘spat’’. However as Her Majesty might have said, recollections may vary.

Oreo Wed 14-Dec-22 08:13:39

Like that is it?😄okey doke.

tickingbird Wed 14-Dec-22 08:23:59

All this goes over my head. I suppose I’m just not that engaged with the site. Not very nice for the ones that rely on it for company.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 08:52:18

You just have to be selective, I suppose.
I hide the threads that I know will rile me.
Do your best to ignore the ones who get up your nose; and hope that he ones whose nose you get up, ignore you too.

Wise words, Fanny! wink

I have a few close friends on GN, I've been burned and hurt before and am very careful now. It's so easy to be taken in and then throw caution to the wind and reveal too much.
As has been said before, PMs are not private.
Administrators can read them if necessary, they own the site.

This thread has only caused unpleasantness and suspicion and achieved nothing positive.

Spat? It was a full-on campaign against the decision of GNHQ. It went on and on.

It's warned off whoever was doing it. Standing up to a bully, reminding them their actions have consequences.

Marydoll Wed 14-Dec-22 10:08:54

It may have "warned off a bully", if there was bullying, we only have one side of the story, so I will reserve judgement. However, it has caused posters to speculate, who the bully could be. Not nice, reminds me of the school playground.
The OP should have contacted GNHQ at the outset.

MawtheMerrier Wed 14-Dec-22 10:08:58

Can you elaborate on "warned off", Gagajo ?
Was it intended to be a threat?

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 10:13:56

I wasn’t aware of any ‘bullying’ on the thread that we are presuming to which the op is referring
(Good Lord, what a mess of a sentence)

This seems like a storm in a teacup crossed with one of those vague troublemaking threads

GagaJo Wed 14-Dec-22 10:22:55

I respectfully disagree. Bullying happens on here periodically. Making it public lets bullies know it's not acceptable. Like a school assembly.

Let's go back to talking about animal poo. It's a nicer subject 😁!

Lathyrus Wed 14-Dec-22 10:26:19

Well, I still don’t know what on earth this thread is about, but “warned off”sounds pretty sinister, actually.

Like there are people posing as posters who have powers we don’t know about.

On another thread entirely, somebody I disagreed with told me they had ways of finding out where I lived. That was scary.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 10:28:31

Oh, Jo I know full well that it happens; I’ve seen it more than often enough. And been on the wrong end of it
I just meant that I’m not at all convinced that this thread pertains to bullying.

The worst poo is fox poo.
I used to be the person who cleared it up from the playground when the caretaker wasn’t there, as everyone else made such a fuss about doing it (gagging and so forth)

GagaJo Wed 14-Dec-22 10:28:35

Really creepy Lathyrus. Is it possible?

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 10:29:27

Lathyrus Blimey! shock
Did you report it?

GagaJo Wed 14-Dec-22 10:29:38

Does fox poo really stink? I know dogs love it.

FannyCornforth Wed 14-Dec-22 10:32:17

Yes, it’s absolutely horrendous.
These were urban foxes, and I reckon their diet isn’t conducive to a healthy digestive system.

I don’t get why dogs do that.
Mine has a preference for seagull poo

No. After retreating for a bit, I took a look at 6’ 4”” OH as he came back from the Sports Centre, and thought “Bring it on”😬

My neighbours put down lion pooh to deter cats poohing by our front doors.
There has to be a proverb describing that………..

GagaJo Wed 14-Dec-22 10:41:19

Did the lion poo work?

Lathyrus Wed 14-Dec-22 10:48:40

It certainly kept human visitors away😱

Callistemon21 Wed 14-Dec-22 10:51:36

You have to track a lion first, though.

It might be safer to just scoop up the cat poo.

We have two families of foxes living in our garden, fortunately they poo elsewhere 🦊💩
