Has anyone on GN got the right to give private information about you?

(593 Posts)

GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.

Surely not. People on GN should have the right to anonimity, unless they choose to divulge any private information, be it about profession, locality, ethnicity, or whatever.

Secondly, should any information given in a PM be fair game to share to other members? Surely not.

There have been a few banned and reinstated people I am aware of and while I don't agree with the behaviour that caused the ban, I was glad they were reinstated.

Some members really do need this forum/website or whatever we want to call it.

Also it can be hard sometimes on an anonymous forum to always remember you are talking to a real person who may be really going through it behind the scenes no matter whether we think they are genuine or being truthful

Caleo Tue 13-Dec-22 20:24:03

Callistemon, I referred to an important ethic . An ethic is a standard by which actions and ideas can be judged. Frankly I am more interested in moral philosophy than Gransnet.

Lathyrus Tue 13-Dec-22 20:24:37

So if it’s not pms, how would anybody tell someone else something about you without telling everybody on the thread and then you would just say they are wrong -or right.

Lathyrus has a dog

No I don’t

Lathyrus doesn’t have a dog

That’s right

There we are, that’s cleared that up.

tickingbird Tue 13-Dec-22 20:28:20

I’ve no idea what any of this is about and I’m quite happy to remain in blissful ignorance,

Kalu Tue 13-Dec-22 20:44:06

I also know only too well Calli having witnessed certain posters with selective memories who have hurt and bullied people over the years.

Ethics - so is bullying unethical, so you think?

Iam64 Tue 13-Dec-22 20:49:40

Lathryus, how do you manage without a dog? I only have two at the moment. Neither of them could be described as ‘east to train’ but I love them nonetheless. They may be easily distracted (young and huge) or a bit of a diva (spaniels, what did I expect) but they aren’t complicated. What you see is what you get.

Lathyrus Tue 13-Dec-22 20:55:51

I’m afraid I’m highly allergic to them. I start wheezing if I have to sit near someone who has a dog, even if the dogs not there! A bit like you tell when so neos a smoker even if they’re not smoking. It’s a big nuisance🙂

Lathyrus Tue 13-Dec-22 20:57:49

Cats, Guineapigs, rabbits, I’m impartial 😬

Iam64 Tue 13-Dec-22 21:01:32

Ok Lathyrus, what a tedious thing to live with. Mr i was allergic to cats, ok with dogs thankfully. He’d wheeze, eyes would swell up, he’d be drained of energy for a couple of days of even the slightest exposure to cats. Luckily for us, I’d shared my life with one cat before we met. That experience cured me of any desire to repeat it

MissAdventure Tue 13-Dec-22 21:02:53

What?!?
That's preposterous!

Iam64 Tue 13-Dec-22 21:06:31

You’re a cat woman then Miss A?

Callistemon21 Tue 13-Dec-22 21:11:16

😲
I may have to revise my opinion!

MissAdventure Tue 13-Dec-22 21:14:43

Ooh I love cats.

My daughter loved her dog to a ridiculous extent, but she said her heart still did a little "in love" flip when she saw her cat nipping in. smile

I dream of finding an abandoned kitten on my doorstep.

I'd have to take it in...

There are a few posters on here who have already been temporarily banned. They'd do well to remember that and keep their noses clean if they really rely on the site for friendship and support. They're not innocent victims by any means GG13.

New members haven't seen their shenanigans, but some of what has gone on wasn't good at all. It was horrible and very unkind.

Who are you Gagajo to say this to everyone? Are you a mod?
Sounds like it.
Or a spokesperson for the OP?
This thread is dingo crazy.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 13-Dec-22 21:23:25

MissA I am in a mission 🐈

Millie22 Tue 13-Dec-22 21:30:55

Bonkers. Just that really.

Farzanah Tue 13-Dec-22 21:39:23

I must miss so much on GN. I never notice spats or conspiracies. I think you would need to spend a lot of time on here to do so. Perhaps I’m just not alert enough confused

There was a huge row between many members and GNHQ a while ago (can't remember how long, at least a year, if not longer). Many members begged, pleaded and did everything they could to get the banned member reinstated (I don't remember who it was, OR who they had been unkind to).

My point is, some members are on a warning about behaviour from GNHQ. They know it and those of us that read that huge thread about the hoohaa know it.

So yes, those that are on a warning (from GNHQ) do need to be careful.

If I could remember the title or any details to add a link to allow you to read the thread, I would. But my memory is sh*te.

I still love my cat even after stepping on her sick, deposited at the side of my bed, in the pitch black, middle of the night as I groggily made my way to the loo! I have forgiven her this little accident. 😻

DD's cat pooed in my slipper.
I started to put them on to go to the loo in the night.

Cat poo smells abominable.

When I first started there was a group of very unwelcoming people who made catty comments when I tried to start a new thread ( I was keen and full of ideas then!) and I was about ready to disappear permanently when they all left or possibly were banned. Since then things have been fine as far as I am concerned. Sure there are the odd comments but not so personal and more just people with very strong views which is what makes things interesting as far as I’m concerned. I sincerely hope the OP hasn’t been hurt by something someone has said/divulged but sometimes talking about it actually draws attention to what is upsetting in the first place.

imaround Tue 13-Dec-22 23:22:49

Miss A, my dream job is being a kitten photographer. Sigh, as if!

nanna8 Tue 13-Dec-22 23:29:19

Another cat poo story - one of our kittens got trapped in our bedroom when we went out and a few days later I was cleaning under the bad and grabbed hold of what I thought was a piece of dark crumpled paper. Yes, it was dried cat poo. Yuck yuck and double yuck!

Wish I had taken the time to put my slippers on! 🙀
