Has anyone on GN got the right to give private information about you?

(593 Posts)

GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.

Fleurpepper Mon 12-Dec-22 17:02:28

Surely not. People on GN should have the right to anonimity, unless they choose to divulge any private information, be it about profession, locality, ethnicity, or whatever.

Secondly, should any information given in a PM be fair game to share to other members? Surely not.

Not disappeared- sometimes it is best to keep well away.

Stinks, for sure lol ;)

Ça sentait toujours le poisson. 🙁

Hmmmm- oh yes, it did. hence this thread. Sometimes it is best not to comment, really.

I lurked for several months before I managed to pluck up the courage to post for the first time.

Unfortunately I got piled on big time, I received a PM from Anniebach who was going through the most difficult personal time herself, but took time to befriend me.

There are far more positives than negatives on GN, like real life if you look for trouble you will find it…

Even my little brain can see that there is an agenda here …

Indeeed. Even my tired brain sees this

VioletSky Thu 15-Dec-22 08:08:39

I've just had someone I don't recognise tell me my job to dismiss my comment on another thread hinting I had a low qualification.

If what's on the agenda is that:

people stop doing gross things like that

I approve

Joseanne Thu 15-Dec-22 08:08:58

If I only had a brain ........

I'd unravel every riddle for any individ'le!

tickingbird Thu 15-Dec-22 09:25:30

I’m still totally bemused and have no idea if there’s an agenda or not and if there is, what the aim is 🤷‍♂️

FannyCornforth Thu 15-Dec-22 10:23:11

Same here tbird
I also get the feeling that we all could be talking at cross purposes.
It’s quite a puzzle!

Doodledog Thu 15-Dec-22 10:31:00

Me neither, tickingbird grin.

It’s odd, as whatever it is seems to be (according to those pointing fingers, at least) about the OP, but as she started the thread that is baffling. VS suggests that it is about her. I see no evidence of that, but as I thought this was about someone’s country of residence being exposed it’s clear that I am missing something, so maybe it is.

GagaJo suggests that Some People (unspecified) are putting themselves at risk of being banned - is there a group of people conspiring to do whatever the ‘agenda’ is?

It is all getting cliquey now, as clearly there are some ‘in the know’ and the rest of us remain baffled. I wasn’t interested at first, but I am curious now - can someone let me know what’s going on, please? I don’t repeat confidences.

Elegran Thu 15-Dec-22 10:57:12

Well, IF there is an agenda to make us all wonder what fascinating facts about the OP are being hidden from us (but which some miscreants may have leaked) and as a result to find the OP more interesting than before and so to look out for their posts, then it has worked, hasn't it?

Doodledog Thu 15-Dec-22 11:02:53

grin.

It's all very exclusionary. I keep hearing that Bryan Ferry song in my head.

What did you do that for Doodle- I need a lie down now.

Kalu Thu 15-Dec-22 11:20:38

Obviously an agenda but the OP has certainly peaked many to now wonder - what is the secret which is not a secret to others who have known her for years on GN and lastly, to lay the blame at one particular GN member being responsible for spreading a fact others were already aware of. Job done.

Kalu Thu 15-Dec-22 11:22:52

Steady kitty 😍

So just another ‘some people’ thread then.

So just another ‘some people’ thread then.

A matter which should have been settled between the OP, whoever she is accusing and GNHQ without any drama!

GagaJo Thu 15-Dec-22 12:30:43

Yeah. Let's not making bullying public.

kittylester Thu 15-Dec-22 12:37:29

I haven't seen any bullying.

I wonder if the OP feels bullied?

Marydoll Thu 15-Dec-22 12:41:54

Do we actually have specific proof of bullying? You seem to be in the know Gaga.

As Kalu has said, GNHQ should have dealt with it. That would have been the proper way to do it.

Abitbarmy Thu 15-Dec-22 12:43:49

We’re not harking back to river cruises are we? Just wondering. I may be on completely the wrong tack here…

MerylStreep Thu 15-Dec-22 12:51:23

I’m sorry if this thread appears cliquey believe me it’s not.
Some of us on GN have been here a long time. Some of us have very good memories.

Doodledog Thu 15-Dec-22 12:53:11

GagaJo

Yeah. Let's not making bullying public.

I don't know if that's sarcastic or not, GagaJo.

If the OP felt she was being bullied, she could have asked HQ to step in, or approached the perpetrator privately. Instead, (her choice, of course) she included the rest of us, and kept the premise of the thread very vague - of course people are going to speculate. It's human nature.

It's also understandable that in a community such as this, when it becomes obvious that some people know what's going on and others don't, when there are veiled threats about people being banned, and references to old arguments that many people (eg me grin) weren't part of, and a reference to another (presumably current?) thread about qualifications or something then of course people are going to feel excluded. Both of those things were always going to take the thread outside of the circle of people (whoever they are) involved, but that was the choice of the OP.

Are you suggesting that she shouldn't have made it public, or that people shouldn't speculate, or stop commenting, to keep it between those 'in the know'? It started about a betrayal of confidence (or appeared to), but someone (you?) brought bullying into it, effectively 'making bullying public'. Is that good or not? In your opinion?

BlueBelle Thu 15-Dec-22 13:00:31

Is it called start a thread throw a firework, stand back and watch the explosions or is it throw the cat amongst the pigeons
Blimey I ve just took us back to the cat posts now I don’t dislike cats but I do dislike the poo in my garden and the digging up of my bulbs when Ive just put them in then I could cheerfully never see one again
Getting back to this thread

Can we have a list of innocents who haven’t a clue what all this is about, who’s heads are always ‘gone over’, who come on most days but invariable see or notice nothing untoward

Me Buebelle anyone else joining me ?

Blossoming Thu 15-Dec-22 13:03:28

Quite honestly, I don’t know what all the vague hints of groups and secret messages are about, but it’s beginning to look like somebody wants to provoke an argument and angry responses so they can report posts. I’m out of here.
