Has anyone on GN got the right to give private information about you?

(593 Posts)

GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.

Surely not. People on GN should have the right to anonimity, unless they choose to divulge any private information, be it about profession, locality, ethnicity, or whatever.

Secondly, should any information given in a PM be fair game to share to other members? Surely not.

Add me to the list BlueBelle I haven't really got involved with all this but understand how some posters can feel excluded, best just to ignore the thread really.

FannyCornforth Thu 15-Dec-22 15:46:20

No offence BB, but I think that we might need a more complex data management system.
Like a Venn or Carroll diagram.
Or something that hasn’t been invented yet.

I’m in the

‘I initially didn’t have a Scooby Doo what the OP was on about; and then later I thought that I did know what was going on; but now I’m not certain about anything at all. (And am nearing the past caring stage)’ camp

tickingbird Thu 15-Dec-22 15:53:21

Add me to the havent had a clue from the get go and still don’t camp please.

sodapop Thu 15-Dec-22 15:54:32

I've been past caring since about page 4 FC just pop in occasionally to see if there is any progress.

Goodbyetoallthat
No one is excluding anyone. Some of us would prefer to couch our posts more clearly. This being GN it’s not allowed.
If anyone of us were to post as we want we would instantly be banned with no chance given to defend ourselves.

Farzanah Thu 15-Dec-22 17:39:46

I can’t believe that this OP has generated so much speculation and so many pages.
I usually take things at face value, perhaps naively, but I understood the OP to ask if everyone has the right to remain anonymous on here unless they divulge identifying information?
I understand that.
Secondly she asked if personal information obtained on a PM should be divulged to others?
I understood this (I think 🤔)
If not told in confidence on a PM then I don’t suppose it should be expected that it be kept secret, unless it will be harmful/hurtful if relayed.
An incident may have occurred to provoke the OP’s question but really it’s non of my business.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 15-Dec-22 17:40:27

Well FC I am with you, I thought I knew what it was about and what poster the OP was referring to.

Now I haven’t got a clue, nor do I care.

As for allegations of bullying, I have not seen anything to warrant that accusation on this thread.

Yeah. Let's not making bullying public.

I don't know if that's sarcastic or not, GagaJo.

If the OP felt she was being bullied, she could have asked HQ to step in, or approached the perpetrator privately. Instead, (her choice, of course) she included the rest of us, and kept the premise of the thread very vague - of course people are going to speculate. It's human nature.

It's also understandable that in a community such as this, when it becomes obvious that some people know what's going on and others don't, when there are veiled threats about people being banned, and references to old arguments that many people (eg me grin) weren't part of, and a reference to another (presumably current?) thread about qualifications or something then of course people are going to feel excluded. Both of those things were always going to take the thread outside of the circle of people (whoever they are) involved, but that was the choice of the OP.

Are you suggesting that she shouldn't have made it public, or that people shouldn't speculate, or stop commenting, to keep it between those 'in the know'? It started about a betrayal of confidence (or appeared to), but someone (you?) brought bullying into it, effectively 'making bullying public'. Is that good or not? In your opinion?

The OP started this thread and Gagjo you have helped it along.
It reminds me of what Harry and Meghan are doing, start rumours and vague accusations and innuendo, no hard facts just speculation and causing all to wonder what they’re on about.
Just stop it.

Don't tell me what to do.

Don't like it, don't participate. Or here's an idea, let a dead thread die. This one is finished all bar the wingeing.

Add me please Bluebell wondered if this thread was aligned with GCHQ Christmas puzzle.

Seems somewhat appropriate.

I know the song Callistemon21 my Gran used to sing it round the house (she never cried and was a really content person)

Marydoll Thu 15-Dec-22 20:37:01

I'm loving the songs.

How about this to put an end to all this nonsense?
