Has anyone on GN got the right to give private information about you?

Surely not. People on GN should have the right to anonimity, unless they choose to divulge any private information, be it about profession, locality, ethnicity, or whatever.

Secondly, should any information given in a PM be fair game to share to other members? Surely not.

Some people really are wringing every last drop out of this thread!!

If it has now morphed into a discussion of cotton dishcloths , things are looking up.
Basically it seemed to me like a disingenuous attempt to make a personal point by pretending it was anything to do with a point of principle.

If it was also designed to start a rammy, that was successful too.

Who needs a season of goodwill anyway? hmmhmm

Silly picture didn't load earlier.

Fabulous Blossoming. We grannies know where the magic power really lies. Knitting, sewing, crochet and the power of herbs. Of yes and The Look/

Dishcloths can go on forever, though in our house the dog runs off with them to chew!

Why does a Guinea pig need a harness confused?

It didn’t!
It was evidence that little girls are frequently at a loss about what to make with their French knitting!

What wool do you make dishcloths from, or do you use thick cotton? Just assuming it is probably cotton but not sure. Now I will go into my junk room and find some scraps!

White string would be fine. You could even dip dye it colours of the 🌈 ! Oh, the excitement of it all for little old me.

I once made doilies in the 70s, cut rounds of ecru curtain lining and crocheted around the edges with ecru embroidery thread. Not something thé homies would be interested in doing of course.

Thanks for that- not sure if we have it here but probably we do. There are a lot of old granny knitters here 🐓-that’s meant to be a mangy old chook.

Oh Doodledog. I PMSL, you are funny. My husband wondered why I burst out laughing. I love being a miserable old crone, just so descriptive and just, well, bloody amusing.

MawtheMerrier Mon 19-Dec-22 04:10:25

Oh no! Not another dilemma!
Tossing and turning here beset by the philosophical problems raised on this thread. Bad enough when it got to crochet - but now Guinea pigs?
Another question - if the temperature has gone up 10 o -(iPad says it’s 8C) why am I freezing ?

Hello, fellow insomniac! grin

Hello DD, at this ungodly hour. 👋

Doodledog Mon 19-Dec-22 02:44:29

Do all you miserable old crones know how to do i-cord knitting? The result is similar to the tubes you got from the knitting Nancy, and they are handy for trims and ties.

Basically, you cast on a few stitches (5 is usual, but you can do more or fewer depending on how thick you want the cord) onto a double pointed needle. Knit as usual, then push the stitches to the other end of the needle, and bring the live yarn from the end of the row to the beginning of the next - you sort of wrap it round the stitches and pull it tight, then knit that row. Repeat until you've got the right length and cast off.

You can knit i-cords directly onto garments or blankets - google i-cord cast-off/bind-off to see how - it's also easy to do, but more complicated to explain in words instead of photos or video.

When my mom was a little girl she French knitted (using the cotton reel method) a harness for her guinea pig

FannyCornforth Mon 19-Dec-22 02:03:19

Dammit! Callistemon I saw you got there first! grin
That’ll teach me not to comment as I go along and not RTFT 🙄

It stands for Deny, Attack and Reverse Victim and Offender Lucca.

Ah, I wondered too re DARVO.
Nothing to do with this fella then

I’m sure I could work out how to loom knit a dishcloth. I. wonder if Abakhan sell dishcloth cotton. There’s a store not far from here. Might go and have a look after Christmas.

Rosie51 Mon 19-Dec-22 00:18:30

I thought my dad the cleverest dad ever when he banged four nails into a wooden cotton reel. I made yards of the stuff, but don't recall ever actually making anything 🤣🤣🤣

I've crocheted loads of dishcloths from white cotton. My best makes though are pot holders from variegated cotton. Just a square or oblong done on a smaller hook so the fabric is tight in UK double crochet. I have so many friends who having seen the ones in my kitchen have asked me to make them a couple. Just a wizened, old, out of touch, gransnetter here. grin

I've never made one, but you can get dishcloth cotton, or any leftover bits of cotton would be fine. The dishcloth stuff is cheap as chips though.

Oh yes, four little nails hammered into a cotton reel can be very effective!

I haven't made one yet - does someone have a pattern please?
It shouldn't be too difficult, should it?
I am rather old, although.

I'm making cosy blankets 😁
The dog loves his.

I don't know if you need to be logged in to see these, but here's a selection:

a rainbow one to show support for Pride

and a clubbing one

and a festive Rudolph

Are they gangsta enough for you? I can't find any ageist ones for those poking fun at forum members (Ravelry has rules against hate and discrimination), but I'm sure they'll be out there somewhere, should they want them.

My skills are not that advanced, Doodledog!!
I'm just a little old lady you know.

However, I have made a rainbow blanket 🌈
