Could anything be done to stop these pop up ads please?
As has been mentioned on another thread, a lot of them are totally irrelevant to our age group, with breast feeding tips amongst others!

They appeared on my phone a few months back, then disappeared, but are now back.

Callistemon21 Mon 30-Jan-23 12:16:05

These are really old ones!

FannyCornforth Mon 30-Jan-23 12:13:48

I think these videos/ ads have been in the pipeline from the beginning (October?)
They just made the MN ones first as they will be more lucrative

TillyTrotter Mon 30-Jan-23 12:09:49

I think many reported it to GNHQ *Callistemon” and I reported it to Mumsnet saying how irrelevant the adverts were to us Grans.
Hopeful actio has been taken 🙏

Callistemon21 Mon 30-Jan-23 12:07:51

By golly!

Baby David and the breastfeeding guru have gone (thank goodness) to be replaced by Gransnetters having makeovers.
I know at least one is still posting, so hello, it's lovely to see you again 😃 👋

Ooh, is this the scone recipe now?

The pop-up videos haven't disappeared but perhaps they're more relevant to us now.

I’m lucky I think as I seem to have the facility to entirely ignore ads.

They simply make no difference.

Have them o; both my iPad and iPhone, also on my regular pc. It seems that the6 are unavoidable.
The ads are inevitable, but pop up all the time, blocking the item being read?
Please do something about them, or at least mak3 them relevant - and not stairlifts or incontinence pads either…

CallmeEsme Sun 29-Jan-23 05:55:02

Please Please get rid of these ads. Totally spoils the whole experience of GN for me and everyone else angry

MrsKen33 Sun 29-Jan-23 03:38:02

Half 3 in the morning and some woman with a mouth full of teeth is telling me about morning sickness. I ask you ?!!!

Dibbydod Sat 28-Jan-23 23:06:50

Download the free AdGuard app from Apple play store on your iPad as that will get rid of the annoying adverts on here .

Delila Sat 28-Jan-23 22:53:39

The same videos are showing on Mumsnet, also with no sound. Just checked.

Antonia Sat 28-Jan-23 21:17:48

I'm getting a really annoying video of meal preparation. It doesn't even go away when I click on the cross. So irritating. Please do something Gransnet.

Doodle Sat 28-Jan-23 20:09:48

These ads are all pointless. There’s no sound and I wouldn’t watch them even if there was.
It’s so annoying. Fed up with the mug cake the breastfeeding midwife etc. Should these ads be on mumsnet?

glammagran Sat 28-Jan-23 18:18:55

I’m incensed by this. I do not want to see videos about breastfeeding, naming your baby, pregnancy ailments etc aimed at people with a questionable IQ’s If this is what I’m going to see now I’m leaving GN.

I find them very annoying too. Hopefully, GNHQ will take our views into consideration? Although, of course, they’ll be making money from them!

How can they create revenue? They aren’t advertising anything

Thank youFanny point taken.

NanKate Sat 28-Jan-23 15:26:00

I find the responses from HQ unhelpful and I get the feeling they hope we will get used to these inappropriate adverts and stop complaining.

I wonder how many of us boycotting GN it would take for them to stop the Ads.

Don’t hold your breath. 🥱🥱🥱🥱

FannyCornforth Sat 28-Jan-23 14:31:53

Oh, Henetha, you can’t leave, I won’t let you! smile
(And you need to let me know about the cat situation please)

toscalily Sat 28-Jan-23 14:19:55

Perhaps we will conceive, give birth and breast feed all due to the power of advertising, grans net miracles.

henetha Sat 28-Jan-23 14:05:06

I thought that too. I don't know what we can do about it, other than leave. And I don't want to leave as I really love my daily dose of GN. confused

FannyCornforth Sat 28-Jan-23 14:00:32

When we were told that it was a trial, I thought that it was just that and took it at face value.
In that MN were using the videos as a way to see how advertising would work in this medium.

henetha Sat 28-Jan-23 13:41:33

Exactly FC. I could see the point if they were trying to sell things, as sometimes happens, but all this young mother stuff is just ridiculous. I'm getting quite cross now, which is unusual for placid me!

FannyCornforth Sat 28-Jan-23 13:37:11

Yes, Henetha, why?
LilyGN, can you please explain the point of these videos?

I wouldn’t mind being flogged stuff that is relevant - but these aren’t adverts or relevant

henetha Sat 28-Jan-23 13:31:33

At 85, why is there a young mother talking at me about morning sickness? I really don't see the point of all this on GN.
And now it has switched to "Back pain during pregnancy!
Why?

eazybee Sat 28-Jan-23 12:43:26

I agree, annsixty.
I am getting extremely annoyed by these patronising adverts plus the fact that Gransnet absolutely refuse to remove them.
I don't wish to flounce off but they seriously interfere with reading and commenting on this site.
Perhaps if everyone stopped accessing this site for a few days it might have an impact.

annsixty Sat 28-Jan-23 11:20:44

I so dislike the smug Mumsy Midwife.
I just want to wipe the smug smile off of her face.
I’m getting really annoyed now.

Dibbydod Sat 28-Jan-23 10:47:59

Granmarderby10

If they are working as they are supposed to then how come I have never experienced them before on my iPad until now?
Plus the “mini” screen one appearing down the right hand margin.

Maybe automatic updates have altered the settings somehow ?
I’ve always experienced annoying pop ups on my iPad , but , as said , I’ve now looked into it and have downloaded free AdGuard from Apple play store . It’s easy to follow the instructions and since I’ve done it I’ve not had any pop ups .
