Get rid of the games!!

Scrolling down the threads for discussions is now driving me nuts. It's nothing but Games, just spotted 8 discussion threads and 13 Games threads.

Please Gransnet, give the Games their own tab at the top. Surely Coronavirus is getting out of date. You could slot Games between Forums and Grandparenting.

Please get them off, there are so many they really are getting very annoying on a discussion forum and don't belong there.

Totally agree, they drive me nuts. Would make so much sense for them to have their own heading .

lemsip Wed 22-Mar-23 08:42:39

people need to start thinking up interesting posts then that will knock 'games' to back of list..

Froglady Wed 22-Mar-23 08:35:59

I agree.

Sorry, meant to say that I agree with the OP.

Froglady Wed 22-Mar-23 08:34:57

I agree.

Ahem 🤫 Am I allowed to mention the fact that the Active List doesn’t work properly, and that there are several threads which hardly ever appear, regardless of whether they are posted on?

(I have hardly mentioned it this year.)

JackyB Wed 22-Mar-23 08:13:03

I don't understand the problem either. I either don't read them or just hide them. The nice thing is that then you get to see the threads that have just slipped off the bottom of the "Active" list as they move up to fill the gap.

Sometimes I might even join in with a game, but I get frustrated when someone has misunderstood the game and throws the thread off kilter.

The games DO have their own section. You can't set GN to hide all threads in one section, but, as has been said, we've asked for lots of things and have resigned ourselves to the fact that we're never going to get them.

And there are always those who start a thread in the wrong section. Either by mistake or because they are new and haven't figured it out yet.

Charleygirl5 Wed 22-Mar-23 07:44:15

I loathe them and also think they should have their own section as many people do get enjoyment from playing them.

Ailidh Wed 22-Mar-23 07:32:09

I always view on "Last Day", so plenty of games visible.

I don't play them but the only reason they show up on my screen is because others have, in the last day.
When there are hotter political items - "Partygate, The Return" anyone? - then they'll sink back down the list.

TillyTrotter Wed 22-Mar-23 07:27:14

Sticking up for the “Games” ……..
I don’t mind finding them if they are not on the Active list as I just click the tab that says “I’m On” .
The many games give pleasure to their GN supporters and help our brains to stay active.

The Games threads cannot be hidden on a computer and presumably not on a laptop either.

I use a laptop - Games, as in each individual thread, can be hidden.

Marydoll Wed 22-Mar-23 07:18:24

I used to play the games a lot, but got a bit fed up with the repetitiveness of them.

The other day, I went to Last Hour and it was almost all games.
I have to admit to being irritated! 😉

notgran Wed 22-Mar-23 07:11:55

I don't care. I am not interested in the Games discussions so never read them. Obviously lots of Gransnetters enjoy them, so good luck to them, pun intended. grin What I do dislike on here are the obvious made up stories that seem to come from someone with a very strange imagination. I usually start to read then, then ignore them. Thankfully they soon seem to disappear from the "Active Discussion" thread.

Kandinsky Wed 22-Mar-23 06:57:00

It must be an older persons thing?
you don’t get this on mumsnet.

I don’t know why we can’t hide entire topics like you can on MN? that would sort this problem out.
As it is now I have to hide them all individually & it takes bloomin’ ages.

nanna8 Wed 22-Mar-23 06:31:51

Doesn’t bother me. I like the mix and scroll between games and discussion threads. I do agree we could do with more discussions but that is really up to us to start them.

Rosalyn69 Wed 22-Mar-23 06:05:55

I agree. Too many. I play games on my phone but I don’t play them on here.

FannyCornforth Wed 22-Mar-23 06:05:11

I think that some of us are referring to The Active List.
That’s what I get as the main option for browsing on the mobile site.
It’s confusing when we all seem to have different set ups

Ali08 Wed 22-Mar-23 06:01:16

Are you lot on actual computers? I use an android phone or tablet and don't have this problem as games are in the menu under 'games' as chat is in the menu under, believe it or not, 'chat'!

Perhaps this might work.

Go from ‘desktop site’ and into ‘mobile site’ (do this at the very bottom of the page); hide all the threads that you want hidden;
and then revert back to ‘desk top site’.

I’m not sure if it would work, but you never know

Chestnut Tue 21-Mar-23 23:30:53

I've just counted 37 active Games threads in the last day. That is ridiculous to have them mixed up with the discussions.

I never participate in Games but they are clearly popular and what posters want, so they shouldn't be removed.

We are not suggesting they be removed. They should have their own tab.

BlueBelle Tue 21-Mar-23 21:12:22

No I never log out Sue
I ll try again when I’ve got time it s very time consuming doing them one by one

people are not posting enough regular discussion threads that's why people go to 'games' when not a lot to discuss!

I agree.

And that is maybe why GN has not been keen to change things?

SueDonim Tue 21-Mar-23 21:02:32

That’s weird, Bluebell. They stay hidden for me although I have to re-do it when a new thread begins. I almost never logout of GN - is it something to do with logging in/out, do you think?
