Temporary Mumsnet logo -not at all funny!
(232 Posts)Don’t know if many of you will have looked at Mumsnet today. They’ve changed their logo because of the coronation. I’m anything but a Royalist but think it’s extremely juvenile and disrespectful. Several threads have been started about it, the majority feel as I do.

Guilty laugh
So you are only kind when it suits you. It makes you sound a right hypocrite.
I do wish everyone had been there for Megan and Harry when they were having all the jokes made about them in the press
Maybe there wouldn't be a broken family here
Did you see it Baggs? A rather large feathery hat obscured Harry in the crowd

I hope King Charles doesn't take life too seriously and would happily have a caricature done
I have lots of worst features but I can laugh at myself
It's really what is on the inside that counts
I think he does take life seriously where it matters. I doubt he's bothered about tried and tested caricatures of himself. Why would he be? They don't change anything about him or anything that matters.
You did not say your personal worst feature Baggs.
Um..... I'll have to consult my daughters about that. Just asked Minibaggs and she said What? and looked puzzled.
I suppose it might be my nose but I've never wanted to change it. Or my eyebrows which are definitely unfashionable but they remind me of my dad so I love them....
It could even be my ears which are not level with each other. I daresay a cartoonist would pick up on this sort of stuff. I'd be flattered to be thought worthy of being cartoonified.
But who said his ears were Charles's worst feature? Most obvious or most recognisable perhaps but nothing more than that.
Big issue not.
Too many high horses around here.

I dont think people wanted spitting image particularly, although perhaps to not be on it was worse than being on it.

Baggs my friend is a caricature artist
He earns a fortune being booked for weddings and other events and we have a huge one on the wall of our family, it's brilliant
But you and those people wanted it.
Big difference.

Anyone else who also thinks what happened is ok, want to say theirs?
MN think it is ok to make fun of the rich and famous.
The rich and famous are still people with feelings.
I'm also rather shocked about the lack of support for freedom of expression on GN
I haven’t got a problem with freedom of expression - we’re allowed to criticise the government, politicians & monarchy.
It’s the making fun of someone’s appearance I don’t like. I’m surprised a site like mumsnet did this, as someone said, many parents on that site will have children with large ears or noses & possibly get bullied about it.
Plus I remember posts on mumsnet about Nicola Sturgeon looking like wee Jimmy Krankie getting deleted ( not in the spirit of the site ) so they’re also being hypocritical.
i was telling my hairdresser, a persian christian, about king charles' ears, and the comments about them.
i also mentioned how some people on here had said he'd grown into them.
the hairdresser said that charles had exactly the right ears for bearing the crown.
so he had been growing into them indeed, all his life, for a purpose.
it struck me as a profoundly wise observation.

Fractious, surly, petulant and prickly are also words
You shouldn’t so describe yourself VS. No one else on GN would use those words about you, no matter what they think.
I didn't and don't see it as mocking. I see it as focussing on what is easily recognised as a bit of Charles that everyone, pretty much, knows about. It's something – and something about which there is nothing wrong – that is so obviously him. It's all that was needed with a crown in that logo for it to be clear that this was shorthand for Charles's coronation day.
Check out the front of this week's Spectator which is definitely not an anti-Charles publication. It's not mockery or cruelty.
Minibaggs has sticky-out ears. She enhances them with ear jewellery, lots of it. nothing to hide or be ashamed of, just a feature.
I'm also rather shocked about the lack of support for freedom of expression on GN. Not that it should still shock me after several other manifestations of a lack of liberalism on here over the years.

I don’t think it’s got anything to do with being Royalist or anything to do with the coronation I m not a royalist or interested in the hugely expensive coronation but
I think it’s just bad manners and cruel to mock someone’s looks whether they re a rich man or a pauper just bad manners and cruel
👏👏👏
The problem is that seeing as adults think it's perfectly OK to mock a rich and powerful man's ears then, when children do it at school, it must be OK.
As a former jug ear myself, I know how awful it is to be relentlessly teased and called names. So much so that at the age of 12 I had a pin back operation. I was quite ill at school. Hated going and all because of my ears! Nobody discussed mental health particularly but mine was really suffering. Dumbo was my name.
Kindness is not what MN is known for. Thank goodness
Well, they clearly had some kind people on MN due to the amount of dissenting voices and the fact they've taken their juvenile logo down.
Some mums will have young children who suffer due to big ears. Some grandparents as well. So we know what it's like.
There's a difference between being kind and not being an @#£&@#£& to be fair
No idea what that means either.
Some very puerile comments on here today.

Must have got lost in translation Kandinsky

we think it’s important as a society that we can freely make fun of the rich and powerful
Crikey. What happened to the ‘be kind’ message?
Oh they are usually able to withstand a bit of 'offense' .
Their response made me smile though.

Below is the response from Mumsnet after they took the temporary logo down. For what it’s worth, I don’t think the protesting anti-monarchist/s should have been arrested (unless they were being violent, or physically disrupting the actual parade which from what I’ve seen they weren’t).
Hi everyone - we’re sorry that the logo has upset everyone. We honestly didn’t think beforehand how it might go down as it was intended as bit of fun - but we take your point. In a world where people are being arrested for being antimonarchist, we think it’s important as a society that we can freely make fun of the rich and powerful but clearly we misjudged the mood and it was poorly executed. We've now taken it down.
Never visited Mumsnet, and if that infantile example is typical of it, I've not missed anything worthwhile. In my book, making fun of someone's physical appearance is certainly no joke, regardless of who it is, and yes, bullies often try to excuse their disgusting behaviour by playing the "just harmless banter" card. I expect that sort of caricature in cartoons of a political nature, or in satirical programmes such as Spitting Images, but this is not an example of that. It's just gratuitously cruel and spiteful. If it has been taken down, that's clearly in response to many complaints. Bad taste.
