No way to add a picture to a post.

Am I hallucinating, or didn't there used to be VERY RECENTLY a way to add a photo or image to the post you were typing? I went to do that a few minutes ago, but below the text box there is no longer a way to select up to 3 pictures to be displayed beside my post.

What is going on? They can't add things that are frequently being asked for, yet they can take away something that gets used quite a lot!!

But mumsnet still have this option working.

Yes, thank you. It would have been nice, however, to have seen a note warning us of this as it was started.

Thank you for this.

Hello there,
We just wanted to let you know that we have temporarily turned off picture loading on Gransnet due to the issues we were having on Mumsnet.
It should be back within a week once we implement an filter for all pictures to ensure they are safe.
We hope you understand.
Best wishes,
GNHQ

Saying that perhaps they thought that we (grandparents) might have fewer children likely to see the pics was said tongue in cheek.

Elegran Tue 18-Feb-25 08:47:29

I would still have expected it to have been removed from Gransnet at the same time as it was on Mumsnet. if the two systems were so closely connected that a hacker could have put the same pics on Gransnet.

We have been able to add pictures from the time of the hacking up until sometime yesterday. If the facility was separate and safe up until then, it should have continued to be safe - unless there has since been a similar attempt recently to infiltrate the Gransnet code.

I'd have thought they would block that on Gransnet at the same time as on Mumsnet. Maybe thought we'd be less likely to have children looking at our screens.

I think you have misunderstood something.
The issue at MN and hence also GN as it is the same company
is that criminal images were posted on MN.
Nothing to do with liklihood of children looking at GN or MN.

Yes, the paperclip has definitely gone. Funny that they can duplicate something like that from Mumsnet overnight but they can't transfer any of the features that we have been asking for for years which are available on Mumsnet. Surely it's not much more than copying and pasting a bit of code.

NotSpaghetti Tue 18-Feb-25 08:04:31

I certainly can't see an option on this thread!

ixion Mon 17-Feb-25 22:06:57

What a shame that Gransnet HQ doesn't put out a message telling us what they are doing and why.

Why the secrecy?

ixion Mon 17-Feb-25 22:04:29

Testing ...
Yup, no facility now.

ixion Mon 17-Feb-25 22:03:36

'Over large' photos have never loaded, in my experience.
I don't know about recently, tho'.

The facility has probably been removed because of the illegal images posted on Mumsnet recently? The ability to post pictures was removed on Mumsnet as a result.

Yes, someone said then it had been taken down but it was still available until yesterday, I think, although I did think it was my device.
Whst a pity but it is the right thing to do.

escaped Mon 17-Feb-25 21:47:59

I had no idea about that.
It sounds awful. Sinister.

I’m pretty sure it is linked with the Mumsnet action.

As Gransnet is an offshoot of Mumsnet, it woukd be remiss for security to be improved on one site and not the other.

I've had another reply.
^"Image posting has been turned off on Gransnet for now. We're sorry for the inconvenience and appreciate it's a pain.
We'll be looking to get back to normal as soon as we can. "^

Oh they have but given no reason..

Shinamae Mon 17-Feb-25 21:37:20

You would’ve thought the moderators would have let us know what’s going on.🤷‍♀️

It has definitely gone here. That's a shame, I like pictures.

Iv'e contacted GNHQ and had a reply asking if that is so right now. Have answered that it is not working now but was yesterday on the Good Morning Thread.

I posted a pic on Soops last night!

Redrobin51 Mon 17-Feb-25 20:58:08

You are right it seems to have disappeared. Hope it is only a temporary glitch.

RosieandherMaw Mon 17-Feb-25 20:43:25

The “facility” has disappeared!

Elegran Mon 17-Feb-25 20:39:15

If features are removed from general use every time someone abuses them, we will end up with a blank screen that we can't put anything onto! Th answer is to employ enough moderators to keep an eye on things, and have certain things flagged up automatically to help them. Not actual AI !!! That just gets innocent things deleted without appeal, and meanwhile the real baddies find ways round the rules.
