Are you a naughty granny or a good 'un? Let Random House know and you could win books for your DGCs.

To celebrate book buying for your grandchildren this festive season, the team at Random House Children’s Publishers have asked us to find out if you're naughty or nice...

They say "When buying presents for your grandchildren, do you like to get something traditional that the whole family can enjoy together? Or might you go for something a little bit cheeky that you know the children will love but that the parents perhaps won't wink. This Christmas, Random House Children’s Publishers have a picture book to suit every type of gifting Grandparent".

Have a look at their lovely page on gransnet which gives you some examples of "good" and "bad" books - and may help you decide which type of granny you are!

We have six prizes to be won as Random House Children’s Publishers have three sets of "naughty granny" and three sets of "nice granny" books to give away (value of each set £25), just in time for Christmas.

For your chance to win, just tell us which type of granny you are! And whether, generally speaking do you prefer, the more traditional children's books or the cheekier ones? grin. We'd also love to hear the best examples of how you've been good or naughty smile

For those "naughty grannies" out there, they've launched a new web game for Dino that Pooped a Planet. It plays best in Chrome and it’s pretty addictive! To play, click here.

Thanks and good luck,

GNHQ

I love cheeky books that make my grandchildren giggle. I love snuggling up with them. X

I'm both - can be naughty or nice depending what is needed!! Meanwhile I am a traditional granny and love the stories I told my children and the ones that my mother shared with mesmile

Congratulations, nicky! Start checking out the drum sets now, and any musical toy that needs batteries - the endless repetition of 'Ee-I-oh' and 'row, row, row your boat' needs study Duracells! grin

Well...... I have only just found out that I am going to be a 1st time Granny, my daughter is due on 25th June 2014. But I totally intend to be a naughty Granny! I've no time for stuffiness and hiding away. We all poo, let's learn about it ;) There wasn't quite the same choices as there are now when my son and daughter were little, 30 years ago, but their very favourites were lots of fun, like when Daddy did the Mr Men books and would SHOUT VERY VERY LOUDLY when He Read Mr Loud or fall off the bed when he read Mr Bump. We "do" fun here!

Oh and also, I want to get my own back and buy the noisiest and messiest presents you can imagine ;)

Merry Christmas xx

Naughty Nanny always spoiling her grandchildren!

I am the nice Granny, play with them a lot. I like traditional books with lovely illustrations.

I'm a nice Grandma but I do prefer some of the naughtier books available now rather than the 'classics' that have been around for years.
One of our current favourite books is 'Santa Claus Needs a Wee' all about Santa eating and drinking his way around his delivery and then being desperate to reach the toilet.
Both Piper and Daisy think it's hysterical and they giggle all the way through it (as does Grandma!)

Definitely a naughty Nana. My granddaughters giggle is so infectious, and she has a great sense of humour, definitely something to be encouraged.

Think I'm a mixture of naughty and nice too. I've always loved reading and I'm glad to see that all my 4 grand-children like books too. The three that I see the most dig out some of their own 'naughty' ones and I think they like to test my reaction to the odd rude words. Occasionally have to keep a straight face or look disapproving but on the whole would like them to think I can laugh with them as well as tell them off at times. Times change - I often wonder whether I would have had the same conversations with my own grand-parents 60 years ago!

I'm a naughty granny but I do like the traditional stories best!

JessM Fri 06-Dec-13 13:57:25

Naughty with no hesitation. Encouraging the children to strip and dance naked in a downpour would be an example. I loved "the Mole who knew it was none of his business." When I asked my GD recently what she wanted for xmas the answer was "Books, books, books." grin

would like to think I am bit of both nice + naughty! Children need to be
enthralled +captivated all at once with reading. Fun should be on the agenda too! Have four grandkids plus step girls .I help with year 3 at local junior school also can be interesting!

grantryinghard Thu 05-Dec-13 02:55:29

Naughty! My little grandson lives abroad and he hardly knows me. When we do meet briefly - once or twice a year - I just have to make him laugh so that I can bring that delicious sound home with me.

Minty Mon 02-Dec-13 16:08:22

It is my role to be naughty I had to be sensible as a parent now it's fun time!

janthea Mon 02-Dec-13 10:31:13

Definitely 'Naughty Nana' as one of my grandsons call me. I love reading books to them with ghosts and goulies and monsters and they love hearing the tales. Loved 'Gangsta Gran'.

I also love reading them the traditional tales that I read to their mothers and my grandmother read to me.

So I am 'Naughty but Nice' Nana!!

janeainsworth Mon 02-Dec-13 08:45:23

Well I think I must be saintly, to the point of being a pain in the neck.
I only like books that are well-written, with proper sentences and the occasional long word thrown in, and a decent story with a bit of a plot , and a moral twist toogrin
Like The Tale of Jemima Puddleduck.
My own DCs favourites were a Ladybird version of Aesop's Fables.
I think children can cope with and understand quite complex sentences at a far earlier age than many children's authors give them credit for, and I dislike much of the pappy children's books which seem to fill the bookshelves these days.
But what do I know - I'm only a grandma and a lifelong book lover.

Wallygrom Sun 01-Dec-13 22:28:31

I am a bit of both....I love the softer more gentle books but my grandchildren like mix.....only this morning I was reading about Santa with a <coughs> wind problem and how it affected his ability to do the job after eating lots of sprouts! Kids loved it though!its getting a balance thats important I guess

Lizbet Sun 01-Dec-13 15:50:12

I'd like to think I'm a bit of both! While I love the traditional stories its also good to add the cheekier ones as I love the way my two granddaughters laugh at them and they also think their nannys a bit mad anyway!!!Snuggled under blankets on a wet afternoon is a perfect time to read these!!

sirihansen Sun 01-Dec-13 15:06:03

I have to admit to being nice rather than naughty, I love reading classic stories to the children (Wind in the Willows suitably adapted went down very well last weekend) and don't always get 'naughty' humour, as I am not English by birth

tanith Sun 01-Dec-13 14:18:49

Naughty but nice I recently won the set of Penny Dreadful books for my youngest granddaughter I know she'll love them as they are 'different' but enjoyable. She is an avid Dr.Who fan too so loves the series , books and DVD's she even went to the Dr.Who show with her Dad I think at the Albert Hall she talked about it for weeks after.
I also bought her a set of Beatrix Potter Peter Rabbit books when she was tiny and she is just starting to show interest in reading them again herself having been read them as a youngster... I so hope she looks after them as they are just such nice books..
