We all know that beneath every mild-mannered gransnetter lies the spirit of a younger, and perhaps wilder you - so we're asking what thing from your past your family or friends might be surprised at.

Whether it was that short stint as a rock groupie, being arrested on a CND rally, or even sporting a punk haircut and being expelled from school for it - L'Oreal would love to hear about them.

Take a look at L'Oreal's video and see what other surprises people have in their pasts:

After marrying much too young I was left with 2 beautiful boys under the age of two. Is it any surprise that I went a bit (a lot) wild once I had the chance to get out again?
I suppose I felt very insecure and unattractive as I had been abandoned for an even younger woman so I dated and slept with as many men as I could. This made me feel better for a short while but obviously it was not the answer. I am ashamed of that time in my life which some 40 or so years ago was not normal behaviour!
Fortunately i have been happily married now for nearly 20 years and no longer feel insecure and unloved although I am not very attractive!

Writing a message on a billboard only to turn round and find the local policeman watching me!!! And he knew who I was!

Mine would be horrified to find out that I used a home hair dye on my friend and deliberately messed it up so she wouldn't be asked out by a boy we both liked, something that is not in my nature but he was a favourite of all the girls.

Oh durhamjen I didn't know that and I've been using their Age Perfect moisturising range for the last few years. Any other brands Nestle are heavily involved in?

merlotgran I'm not telling – although I did know some people in the music business in those days, but it was never the "Rock Cock Collection" of the Bangers' Sisters. At one time, absenthusband lived next door to a well-known band and it seems that things could get a bit lively – or not. How exciting is it to go off to a rock concert (back stage, of course) and then come home and find one of your flatmates had fallen asleep with his face in his rhubarb crumble – fortunately, he didn't inhale?

TracyKNixon Thu 07-May-15 14:23:18

My son was amazed that I did a parachute jump a good many years ago. Wouldn't dare do it now!

I was a daredevil when I was younger - I did a tandem skydive once on holiday on impulse without telling my parents until afterwards and I jumped off the tallest building in the Southern Hemisphere.

My kids would be surprised to learn that I used to draw spiders on the ceiling in my form room. Oh also I once shop lifted a nail varnish in my luch hour. (Only time - honest! As I felt very guilty and that was my punishment!)

Agreed to a date with a man that I met while at work when I first left school - he was working on the road building gang that were constructing a new road at the bottom of the fields of the riding school that I worked at. I got teased about it at work, and then backed out and didn't turn up on the night when I was supposed to meet him but pretended to my workmates that it was him that stood me up. Luckily I never saw him again as their workgang moved on to the next section of road the following week.

My children once found a picture of me in a leather mini skirt and basque - As I have always attempted to ensure that they do not wear too short clothing or revealing etc this made life a little awkward lol

Sadly I have to confess to finding moonies quite funny and there are a couple of photos on facebook that my 22 year old son would have seen. He might have been somewhat suprised when he first came across them as a teenager, but he is used to me now. I am completely myself and we can discuss most things quite openly. Obviously there are some exploits (sexploits haha) I keep to myself but only because there are things about your parents you don't want to know, not because I'm embarrassed or ashamed of them.

I dumped my fiancée about six weeks before we were due to wed & nobody in the family have ever mentioned it to daughter. She would be shocked, but I had met her dad & realised I would have been making a mistake marrying the other man. Feel rather heartless about it now thinking back, but made the right decision.

i smoked from the ages 12-14 and my kids detest smokers so they must never know.

"Recreated" London Underground train passes as a laugh. Not so funny when my brother dropped one out of the window at Neasden depot! Frightening visit to the school from LT Police - can now see that they were really trying to scare me from repeating the act....and, boy, did it work! Failed in Art as well........

lionpops Thu 07-May-15 19:01:48

they might be surprised that great granny has served in two armies!

I once had a picnic on a frozen lake. There was a bunch of us, in our late teens, and we had no though whatsoever to the potential danger.

Anne58 Thu 07-May-15 19:25:47

I travelled on a bus to see my then boyfriend (my DC's father) wearing nothing under my coat except for a bra, stockings and suspenders. (And shoes, of course)

Must have looked a bit odd, wearing a leather coat in the middle of June grin

freefan Thu 07-May-15 19:49:26

That I got banned from a local pub for dancing on the table, I was very young ( well younger than I am now) and my friends and I thought it would liven up the place smile

clarejw Thu 07-May-15 19:52:36

Had to tell my daughter how drunk I was once when I couldn't get my key in the lock

Micah68 Thu 07-May-15 20:39:32

I still live near the university I attended. I vividly remember my daughter's look of horror when I mentioned that my friends & I sometimes used to go skinny dipping in the campus Loch in the moonlight.

cherylann2461 Thu 07-May-15 21:01:08

I use to go topless in Greece many years ago! No sagging then. lol

Cailin7 Thu 07-May-15 22:02:28

Strange question L'Oreal! I don't know anything in my past that would shock my children.
