I find that Avene Riche moisturiser resolves the problem on my face and Dermol lotion (on prescription) elsewhere.

I've always had dry skin (it's a family genetic issue) - when I was a young child, none of my classmates wanted to hold my hand in the crocodile line - they said I had "elephant skin." I remember crying as a teenager than no one would ever love me because of my dry skin with eczema. I spent years trying different creams, potions and lotions... and was eventually diagnosed as being allergic to cow's milk. After cutting it out of my diet, I lost a huge amount of weight and became anorexic (another family genetic trait).

It took until I was 40 years old and a move to a hot, humid climate to resolve the problem for the most part! My skin is wonderfully soft, but I can still get patches of dry skin/eczema and my feet still crack and bleed when it gets colder at night.

In terms of effective products, Weleda had a wonderful moisturiser (now discontinued) that was excellent - light, nourishing and really worked wonders and of course, it was made of natural products. Now I just use E45, but sometimes even that isn't available on my tiny island home. I've used natural aloe instead - it smells weird, but it really does the trick!

I have had dry, itchy skin for many years-legs, arms, face, knees etc.. I have to be careful of which shower gel/soaps to use and have never been able to use soap on my face as it has always been too dry since childhood. I am prescribed Zerobase and a steroid by the G.P.

I have previously done the actual survey in this topic for Balneum. But get a bottle on prescription of a lotion with pump called Diprobase and always apply before bedtime on my arms and legs.

I get really rough dry skin in winter, haven't found anything that works yet

Humph Fri 23-Aug-19 20:23:51

Itchy legs all the time - have started using a soap substitute which has helped

Molly10 Fri 23-Aug-19 21:24:34

I avoid heavily perfumed products and keep my skin moisturised with a product like E45. I haven't used Balneum yet.

When I was much much younger I did have problems with dry flaky skin which would sometimes crack and get itchy raw ( especially back of my knees, inner wrists and inner elbows) always worse in the cold of winter. I remember getting through tubs of aqueous cream which seemed to have a soothing, healing effect. Fortunately those days are far behind me.

Had eczema as a child and dermatitis as an adult still problem with both. Have tried various lotions and potions over the years finally discovering a recommendation for O’Keefes on here. My dry skin and cracked hands and heels have improved greatly.. foot cream on after a shower then socks. Hand cream at night, if extremely cracked and sore I wear cotton gloves to bed. I use hydromol as soapin shower. When heating first goes back on I itch everywhere

i have very bad sensitive skin which is set off by literally anything i have to use body cream and face cream three times a day, i wash all my clothes at 60 and iron both sides, keeping on top of these things keeps my skin ok but when i go on holiday the change in water triggers off dry itchy skin!

I have an itchy patch on my scalp which nothing seems to resolve, it started in pregnancy 22 years ago and has never gone. Hairdresser has recommended T Gel to calm it so will be trying that next. I keep away from and am allergic to perfumed products and just use soap and water and a little moisturiser on my skin

dirgni Sat 24-Aug-19 08:47:57

I always use loads of moisturiser morning and night. I wear rubber gloves for cleaning, washing etc and gardening gloves for dirty jobs outside. ( I try to avoid hand washing where I can) and regularly replenish with hand cream!

I get Pompholyx (dyshidrotic eczema) on my hands and the Arch of my feet. It can get really dry and itchy. I'm yet to find what 'Flares' me up.. but Mycotta athlete's foot cream seems to help a little on my feet. Trying Coconut oil next time. We'll see.. Fingers and Toes crossed.

lindseylofty Sat 24-Aug-19 09:28:22

E45 cream really helps with my dry skin. It doesn't itch too much but gets really dry. I wear rubber gloves when washing up

Nannan2 Sat 24-Aug-19 11:24:02

I have used Rescue Remedy cream, which is good absolutely anywhere for itchy, dry, cracked and even fungally infected skin. I have even used it for nappy rash, smileon my sore lips in cold weather, as well as athletes’ foot, etc.

I’ve started to get a dry skin patch on the inside of my arm - I’m trying calendula cream at the moment.

Moocow Sat 24-Aug-19 14:30:36

My hands are the worst and it really is my own fault for cleaning without using gloves but I'm always rushing or distracted so rarely get round to wearing them. I find most helpful creams to be heavy or sticky but help so I resort to using them when I'm able. I like those shower oil products but fear slipping so again a product I rarely use.

gulliver12 Sat 24-Aug-19 15:11:23

I put a capful of oilatum emollient in the bath. Used to get this from the GP but due to current NHS advice I have to buy it. After the bath I apply Dermol, Oilatum, E45 etc. depending what (out of date samples are still around) Will soon have to start buying stuff. Always tended to have dry skin but only needed to apply stuff since I've been older despite HRT (mine's not yet out of stock)

Isobelw Sat 24-Aug-19 16:18:05

I can’t use anything with lanolin n it so it makes find creams for,my dry itchy skin difficult

marymod Sat 24-Aug-19 18:31:51

I get dry, flaky skin all over and have to be really careful with what products I use. I'm currently finding Cetraben to be the most effective and soothes my skin as well as moisturising. For bad breakouts I have to use a steroid cream from the doctor, but try to use it as a last resort. I also avoid perfume on my skin and spray it on my clothes instead.

Frinders Sat 24-Aug-19 20:43:35

Itchy dry skin, itchy dry skin, got to stop there to itch. Now, it has been worse than now, and I can't stop it completely but I have been able to improve my skin. At first I used various oily lotions, and I tried oily shampoo. and it was while I was using that that I found it is better to shower with water only. Other than that, washing clothes in Fairy also helps. I wonder though whether modern washing machines really rinse all the detergent out of clothes.

Anj123 Sat 24-Aug-19 21:58:36

After a bath or shower I always apply body lotion/moisturiser. I use a heavier moisturiser in the winter than in summer. That way I know my skin won’t go dry and itchy. I apply hand cream regularly and wear rubber gloves when washing up. It’s as simple as that!
