Throughout the colder months I suffer with dry skin on my ankles and calves so I use a moisturiser and wear shorts indoors whenever I can and that tends to help.

I find that if I use soap too much it dries my skin so do in moderation rather than the obsessive compulsive way I had previously..

I find Aveeno a lovely product. My Grandaugher has it for her sore skin and it has worked for her.

Since my thyroid conked out i get terribly itchy skin all over and very dry skin on feet and hands it drives me mad
The only thing that eases it off is Aveeno wash and cream and that does ease it for a day if not i would scratch myself mad

I prefer to treat my skin as sensitive so choose not to use perfumed products if I can avoid it. I've also found that half the recommended dose of washing detergent and using no conditioner works just as well. Medicines seem to make the skin itchy - paracetamol.

As I have got older my skin has become more sensitive so i find the best to use is the Dr Organic range and E45

Still looking for a product that will combat a small dry area on my face. Hopeful that I will find the correct product.

I have chronic eczema and use prescribed ointments, with varying effect. When it is really bad I slap on a really messy 50/50 ointment. It definitely improves overnight

I have suffered dry skin since a teenager.
I moisturise every morning and evening, and heaven help me if I forget to take some with me when I go for a swim!

I avoid using any products containing Methylisothiazolinone (MI), as this causes my dermatitis to flare up. I always check the full list of ingredients of beauty and cleaning products. I found that using Aveeno Gentle Baby Wash really helps calm the skin.

Wearing those cotton socks and gloves with moisturiser overnight has helped my dry itchy feet and hands

dagmarl Tue 27-Aug-19 09:59:48

I don't really suffer from this.

sputnicki63 Tue 27-Aug-19 10:38:49

I have light therapy for a skin condition. It dries my skin out and can make it incredibly itchy if I don't moisturise sufficiently.

Poor diet and central heating gives me dry patches. Gentle exfoliation and a rich moisturiser help. Using make up to cover up patches on my face only makes it look worse. I just try to hide the redness.

I only recently started to get dry skin and find I need to moisturise twice a day to keep on top of it.

My son suffered with eczema and we had many appointments with the GP and tried lots of products but nothing truly worked. One day I read about how good seaweed based creams were and the amazing benefits of goats milk. We got the cream to try and some goats milk which luckily he liked and the results were amazing. Over the next 4/6 weeks his eczema disappeared. Even to this day - 12+ years later my son still drinks goats milk and only uses the cream if he gets any dry skin which isn't very often. I read some people bathe the dry skin with the milk and you can even get it powdered to make into a paste for the dry areas. We didn't try this but it may be beneficial for some.

I get itchy skin on my back, right in the spot where it's difficult to reach with either hand, so I end up using a door frame as a scratching post. I did try putting E45 on it, but it still itched and just felt greasy, so I've stopping putting anything on it now.

My skin gets itchy more in the hot summer months, due to allergies. Antihistamines and after-sun help (even though I never sunbathe).

Hemp hand cream works for me

granfromafar Tue 27-Aug-19 22:04:48

Johnson's baby lotion (other makes are available!) works on dry heels for me. Also you get that lovely 'new baby' smell

Labaik Tue 27-Aug-19 22:47:15

I spent about half an hour yesterday putting various creams on various parts of my body; HC45 round my eyes that have reacted to some make up; antihistamine cream on all my mosquito bites [also calamine lotion]; Arnica on a bruise on my leg. Daktacort on my athletes foot. Voltarol on my arthritic knee. Tend to use E45 as a hand cream these days as it lasts a long time; also put it on my legs as I know dry skin on legs can cause problems as you get older. Shower using Aveeno oil or Oilatum [also use their baby bath/shampoo]. Used to have quite greasy hair and skin; not sure when that changed ! Try not to use Betnovate very often but would hate to be without it

Mariobug25 Tue 27-Aug-19 23:27:06

I have come to realise that my skin just won’t tolerate the lovely smelling luxurious creams I really want it to. They often make my skin drier and sometimes I have huge flare ups (angry rashes!) I have managed to combat my problems by using products which are natural. I am always on the hunt to find other products which work for me - I’ve stopped spending lots of money on the “most expensive” hoping that will mean it’s the best. Everyone’s skin is different; and products will work differently for everyone. X

Suffered terribly with dry skin on my hands when I worked as a painter. Coming into contact with harsh solvents contained in paints and thinners was not good for the skin. Rubbing Vaseline into my hands at the start of the day as a barrier was routine. My hand would itch like mad and it was hard not to scratch them which made them worse. There was a product at the time called Eurax lotion which relieved the itching.

Aveeda is pretty good. Bathe in warm water with Oilatum or E45 in water. Can use Oilatum or Neutogena if soap needed. Pat skin dry and moisturise whilst slightly damp with good moisturiser for dry skin. Again Oilatum or E45 are good and so is Aveeda for me!

cobwebqueen Wed 28-Aug-19 11:58:10

Bathe in warm water with either Oilatum or E45 bath formula or use something like Neutrogena or Oilatum soap. Pat skin dry then use Oilatum, E45 or Aveena on your skin. Himalayan bath salts help sometimes and if skin gets itchy there is a good antibacterial cream you can get on Amazon that works for me.
