Going on a cruise can be a great way to see the world all in one holiday and what can be even better is sharing that experience with someone you love...be it a friend, family member or even extended family & friends. Who you go away with can really alter the type of holiday you have for the better; do you bring your always-up-for-an-adventure cousin or perhaps you’d want to take your partner because they’re more relaxed? With this in mind Holland America Line would love to know who you’d take on a cruise and why?

Here’s what Holland America Line have to say: ‘Holland America Line’s elegant hotels at sea are perfect for all holiday makers. Whether you wish to go solo, with a partner or with extended family, there are destinations to suit every traveller, and a lifestyle for every passion - whether explorers, foodies or music lovers…’

'From the moment you arrive, you are welcomed as a friend. Settle into your spacious stateroom and your room steward will pop by to ensure every detail is in order, taking a moment to learn your name to greet you personally every day. Throughout the ship you’ll find service is gracious and attentive. Never in the way, yet always close at hand.'

Do you have a big family and you’d love to take them all for a whole host of different reasons? Is it your partner you’d like to bring with you because you both love travelling and exploring new places together? Perhaps you have a group of friends that you have non-stop laughs with that you’d love to bring along? Maybe you’d like some quality time with your children and/or grandchildren? Or even if you can’t think of any friends/family you’d like to bring, what about if you could literally take anyone in the world on a cruise? Why would you choose them?

Share who you’d take on a cruise with and why on the thread below and everyone who does will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I would love to take my husband & 2 sons on a cruise to suit all tastes.......adventure, great food & good music. What could be better other than the addition of a good book?!

I would take my best friend. She has had a very bad time over the last 12 months; she has lost her youngest son to AML and has herself been hospitalised with pneumonia, which has left her with (probably) permanent damage. I would do anything to try to put a smile on her face, even if only for a short time.

I go cruising with my OH and would like to know that this arrangement will continue in the foreseeable future. We have some lovely friends who can no longer do the cruising with us and we will miss them on our future trips,

my friend as she hasn't had a holiday for years. She'll love this!

I'd take my dearest friend Anna. I moved from London down to Devon 8 years ago and we don't see nearly as much of each other as we would like. It would be so lovely to spend time with each other away from work, life and grumpy husbands. We'd have a blast, I can feel a Prosecco coming on!

I'd like to bring my friends for the best extended girls night ever - we don't get to meet up or see each other like we used to and it would be so lovely to have an extended time to relax and catch up properly

I no longer have a DH so would go with Alan Carr, chatty man, I think he's hilarious and reckon we'd have a laugh.

Nusgranny Fri 20-Sept-19 18:41:19

My lovely hubby, we have so much fun when we go on our "adventures".

Elrel Fri 20-Sept-19 18:10:22

I would like to take the CEO of the cruise line to ensure smooth sailing.
Otherwise perhaps a dear friend who is a retired master mariner, I’m sure he’d make the journey interesting and maybe have all kinds of useful knowledge of the ports we might visit. Yes, I know he may well have close friends in them too! C’est la vie!

There are a few people I would have loved to take with me on a cruise that sadly would be unable to go now.

My dear Mother who sadly passed away this year.

My dear friend who we took on a port day visit on a Holland America ship to get the feel of it as she would love to go on a cruise. Sadly, she also will be unable to go as with Meniere's and other problems she could feel the sway even when docked. Sadly her husband has recently had a stroke also.

Another friend dearly wanted to experience Iceland and the Fjords by ship but she has an inner ear problem which stops her too.

I could still find others to take with me though...OK, who's paying. smile

I met my husband on a cruise but after 23 years of marriage he has passed away after a longish illness. So I think I would take my eldest sister with me as she is really good company and we have not had an argument since we were teenagers, (and that was because I borrowed her dress without her permission)! We would go to tap classes, learn to salsa and probably try a few arty classes too as well as enjoying shore trips.

I'd like to go on a cruise with my hubby so we can explore together.

jacalpad Fri 20-Sept-19 17:45:29

I would go with my husband of 45 years. We like the same things and relax in one another’s company. If I could take more people, I would take my two daughters, their husbands and my two teenage grandsons........ and, of course, my husband! The boys would love it!

NannyC2 Fri 20-Sept-19 17:30:44

My husband of course - married a couple of years ago, so would love to cruise along the ocean!

Coconut Fri 20-Sept-19 17:27:10

I would take my 5 grandchildren, they would just love it now that they are older ?⚓️ A brilliant adventure for them.

joysutty Fri 20-Sept-19 16:05:04

I would take my husband. Now he is retired, but still works a 4 hour shift 3 times a week to give us extra money for having small holidays and pub lunches out once a week, as i am not old enough yet for the state pension being 61. We have been on the day trip over to Calais from Dover many years ago, but that is too much our age now getting up so early and arriving home later one, so booked a 4 day cruise about 6 years ago to Bruge and France which was wonderful. We also had a coach tour which took us up to Hull to get the ship over to Norway about 12 years ago and it was a wonderful country.

Suzie24 Fri 20-Sept-19 15:37:49

I would take my best friend. Despite having a terrible year herself she has always been there for me.
