Moving house is one of the most stressful life events. You have limited control over the situation and nothing is certain until you get the keys of your new home. The next move I have will be when we decide to downsize. The cost and hassle of moving puts me off until the time comes where due to our physical health our house is too big to manage.

I think we have stayed longer in our present house because our first move was such a nightmare! We have gathered many more possessions now, I would have a major de clutter of our loft and wardrobes before considering another move.

I love moving! Have done it many times and whilst it is always a little sad to leave a place you've called home for a while, it's also really exciting moving into somewhere new and decorating it. I love the opportunity to clean things out, throw things away or sell unused goods.

I think the whole process of moving house is stressful. From having strangers viewing your house and airing their views to trying to finding a suitable house and then tying the whole process together. I don’t look forward to the prospect at all.

We have lived in the same house for over 30 years so the thought of moving fills me with fear - flooding, subsidence, poor workmanship, upheaval - I don't know where the list ends

I moved 4 times in 5 years with my teenage children and it was a nightmare. We are settled now and hopefully won't have to move again.

For me its, changing address on bills, online banking. Seems such a big task.

I detest moving house. It is so expensive, there are so many things to do, informing everyone is a pain and half the time they fail to note your change of address so you have to follow up. I hate the fear about whether everything is going to be ok, is the house ok are the neighbours ok etc. I may move when my parent's die to be nearer to family but the thought terrifies me.

Having a reason to declutter would be fabulous. We have a garage full of stuff that never sees the light of day, ditto many cupboards throughout the house.... bring on the boot sales and trips to the dump!

I find them to be quite stessful, but generally worth it. I've not yet regretted one.

I think it's both exciting and stressful! I'd worry about the sort of neighbours I might have, as it's hard to get a real sense of that until you've lived somewhere a little while.

I'd certainly consider moving though, especially if my dream home came onto my radar and finances allowed for it

We plan on staying in our current home until our daughter finishes school, we will then either go to the country or go abroad

Most important to start packing early, label everything and consider numerical sequence - what will you need first in your new home? Do keep an upto date list of the boxes and contents. If you can get the packing and unpacking organised successfully, you are on your way!!

I've moved far too many times to count, and it sucks every time. I've accepted that I'll never own my house.

As we get older house moves become more difficult both physically and emotionally. Don't ignore your feelings when moving, even if the reasons all stack up on paper. It can be a wrench to leave a loved home, even more so when moving areas. Be kind to yourself and give yourself time to adjust. Take it slowly and enjoy the new experiences as much as possible.

I have moved many, many times in my life! I am an expert at decluttering, but there is always too much to move. I would never move without a professional removal firm now, as it is just so much work to do yourself. My top tip is to write which room each box is going to and a short description of the contents. Also, make sure you have a box with essentials for the first few days, such as kettle, mugs, glasses, plates, cutlery.

I think if you have a checklist then it can be less stressful, I live in a village so I think I am now in the place to live a good retirement away from London!

Although it is very stressful I think of it as a new chapter. Yes many memories may have been made in a home but many more will be made in a new one and you take your memories with you.

I'd never move again, unless I win some money and therefore not having to worry about selling my current home before moving into the new one!

I have been in my home 20 years and that's because I hate the whole moving experience. Weeks of unpacking boxes are a nightmare which I don't want to repeat in a hurry

The whole ghastly business of buying and selling – surveys, chains, timewasters, gazumping, etc.
Does the thought of decluttering when moving house fill you with dread, or does it feel like an exciting new start? Decluttering certainly helps with moving, but we do it on a regular basis. Stuff we don't need goes for car booting, and anything that doesn't sell goes to charity shops or the dump.
What would make you consider moving house in the future? We do intend to move again, as we'd like more land for growing food and rearing animals. We're looking for somewhere more rural, but not too cut off – but we'll never be looking for an old people's community.

The whole process is an utter utter stressful nightmare. We moved 13 years ago and I swore I never would again. It was such a hard, stressful, long-winded process.
