We have moved house 14 times in 37 years of marriage. I think there will be at least one more move in the next few years when we decide where to settle in our retirement. We should be good at de-cluttering but we also seem to be too good at RE-cluttering! The one thing I thought I'd be grateful for was the time we could afford to pay for the removal company to do the packing too yet in reality I find that incredibly stressful. It must be true, I AM a control freak after all!

I have no plans to move, the thought of emptying the loft and changing our address on everything fills me with dread! Also this is our family home and we are very happy here and love it that there is enough rooms for the grandchildren sleeping over!

I hate it... done it one too many times

We downsized 3 years ago now and I cannot believe how much stuff we had to get rid off that I wished I had kept and how much stuff I kept that I wish I had gotten rid off. My advice would be give yourselves as much time as possible so you have time to think things through

I love moving house. In the house i'm now living it will be the longest i have lived anywhere in my lifetime. My ex husband was in the military and we moved ever 3 or 4 years. I've lived in my present home for 15 years and now I'm getting the urge to move again even though I don't really need to. I love the whole act of packing up, the excitement of starting over somewhere else. Everything about it

I have moved many times and twice internationally. It is very hard to reduce the stress but I always found that making up a box of 'urgent' supplies ahead of time helped. Put in tea or coffee-making supplies including a kettle, mugs and spoons. Put in a couple of toilet rolls and kitchen rolls - useful for so many things. Add a bottle opener and can opener and a sharp knife so you dont have to search. A t-towel and J-clothes are useful as is some soap or handwash. A bottle of all purpose cleaning spray and a cloth. Add a folder with important numbers - agents, the movers number and contact address etc. and any paperwork you may need. A note of where the electric and gas meter are as well as the water stopcock and consumer unit can be invaluable. If you have pets then a bowl and a meal are essential. The box should travel with you and go straight into the kitchen. You can probably think of other things to make life easier for you personally too. A little bit of planning goes a long way.

Don't stress over it, things are never as bad, or good, as they seem. Do your research before you make any snap decisions.

We have moved numerous times in our lives and have almost become experts.We have moved from one side of the country to the other, and somewhere inbetween. We’ve de-cluttered every time, as it seems silly to take rubbish with yoI as well as we design and change our furniture layout.
The most stressful thing about every move is the legalities and surveys. Exchanging contracts is such a a relief. We had a couple of wobbles when buyers tried to pull out at the last minute.
For all of our moves we have done all of the packing ourselves, as it saved us a fortune. Needless to say, we got really good at it and didn’t break a thing as well as learning from each experience and getting better at it - labelling boxes by room and keeping a box just for teabags, kettle etc so that we could have a cuppa asap.
We have loved moving into a new home and finding places for all our possessions and putting our own individual stamp on each property.

my house is on the market. my children have left home and the house is too big. It will be so sad to leave, I know its the right decision but it doesnt make it any easier

House moves are very stressful but are something that helps with family life. I have only moved twice in my life and both times have been to enhance my life and to make me happy!

We've moved lots as our family grew and now that's it I am so not moving again unless I really really have to. It is so stressful and they all the decorating eugh

we have only ever moved once. our next move shall be soon. I am excited for the fresh start but the decluttering is taking forever.

I love my home but unfortunately rent. I would love to be able to own somewhere for security of knowing it will be my forever home. I dislike moving as seem to lose memories of happy times and children’s first moments.

I hate moving house, moved quite a few times in my life and the less stressful way is to organise, organise & organise. It is better to book a reputable moving firm, it takes a lot of stress out of the move. If you have animals like I have & you are moving a long distance, you can get some calming tablets off your vets to help them to be less stressed.

not something I relish due to all the packing and unpacking however great opportunity for declutter and finding things you thought you d lost forever (and losing something else you swear youd packed safe)

I've moved house twice as an adult and didn't have any issues. Thankfully I have a lot of things but when I moved it gave me a chance to filter out some of the stuff I didn't need and rearrange stuff in the new place

I love moving house and have itchy feet at the moment to move. I have moved about seventeen times in 50 years. I love decluttering when moving and can't wait to move again. I couldn't imagine staying in the same house for a long period of time

Ive moved 3 times in the last 12 years. It felt good to leave bad memories behind begin new chapters. Im looking at different houses again now and it probably wont be long before im on the move once more.

Stressful, but worth it in the end!

We moved from a house to a bungalow last year. I put things I wanted to take in black bin bags at one and of the room and things for charity shop in black bin bags at the other end. Guess which ones my husband took to the charity shop? ?

We have no plans to move at the moment.
We moved into a bungalow 16 years ago as I am disabled, and it is perfect for us at our age.
When it comes to the stage that one of us is left on their own, that would be a different matter and maybe somewhere with a bit of care and company available if you needed it would be a good idea.

I haven't moved house for 20 years and when I did I didn't have much so it wasn't too much hassle. I dread to think what moving now would involve with all my worldly possessions!

The only good thing about moving is you find stuff you thought you'd lost years ago...

We have moved house several times and it is always very stressful as I deal with all the paperwork myself. The only bit I look forward to is the packing as it gives me a chance to go through all our possessions and donate stuff we no longer need or use to charity.

I have moved 12 times in 28 years, but I love my current house so hopefully will not be moving again. I moved in to my current house almost a year ago, but before that had not moved for 10 years. I had forgotten how expensive it can be to move, but I am luck in that my family to help me.
