Should I be taking HRT while still having periods?

Vhall254 Sat 26-Sep-20 11:42:57

I went through the menopause early (39) apart from some weight gain and a few hot flushes I had no symptoms. As I wasn’t suffering I haven’t taken any drugs but is there a supplement I should be taking?

sheilads105 Sat 26-Sep-20 11:52:42

I'm done and through the menopause but wonder if I should be taking supplements. I didn't use HRT for the menopause and am generally fit (I run twice a week and do floor exercises). But maybe I need to take some extra vitamins or minerals?

I had a hysterectomy at 45 and have still got the hot flushes even though I’m 60 now will these go on forever?

katieskatie82 Sat 26-Sep-20 12:07:49

how long does menopause symptoms normally last? I've just started within the last year.

Strange to be asking a question about my 96 year old dad here, but he has been diagnosed with prostate cancer and is being given hormone injections. Since having these, he sometimes gets 'hot flushes' especially at night. Can these hormone injections lead to menopause symptoms in men?

I have put on a stone in weight in the last 6 months due to menopause, substandard thyroid medication and a virus, I have not been able so shift more than a couple of pounds then I put them straight back on again. If I keep this up I will soon be the same weight as my son sad

Can any particular diet or natural remedies help with menopausal symptoms, mainly hot flushes?

GrannyMary1 Sat 26-Sep-20 13:13:34

Please help, I can’t stop craving biscuits, cakes, crisps and chocolate. I’ve put on over 2 stone in the last year, I’m 54 nearly 55. My cravings seem to be out of control. I really need to lose weight. I have PCOS and beginning to have irregular periods now. Self esteem is really low now. Don’t want my husband to come near me now. Feel too fat. Help!

Why does your hair become so much thinner during the menopause, and how can you improve your hair density?

claresav Sat 26-Sep-20 13:18:02

I haven’t taken HRT because I am on a lot of other medication for pain with a neurological illness. I also can’t walk outside the house. Should I be worried about my bone density? Should I be asking my GP to check my density??

I menopaused at 42 and had hot flushes and night sweats for ages which only disappeared after I had been diagnosed with an underactive thyroid and had my levothyroxin dose at the right level ( mid 50s).
I'm now 64 and have started to have intermitttent hot flushes again, usually in the evenings but thank goodness not at night.
My blood tests don't show a problem with my thyroxin levels - what could be causing the hot flushes and what do you suggest to alleviate the symptoms?

anngwill Sat 26-Sep-20 13:24:42

I went through the menopause without too many problems but at the age of 72 I have started getting hot sweats & sleep problems. Do you think it could be connected .

janeyf Sat 26-Sep-20 13:28:11

What are the best alternative remedies to help minimise menopausal symptons without having to resort to HRT?

hugshelp Sat 26-Sep-20 13:35:44

Does vaginal dryness ever improve without treatment? Are any treatments effective that don't contain hormones?

NiCH Sat 26-Sep-20 13:36:14

My concern is also thinning hair, and loss of hair particularly towards end of summer. Any dietary recommendations to help this?

sophie56 Sat 26-Sep-20 13:39:04

I have been having hot flushes since my early 40s and am now in my late 50s. My Mother still had hot flushes and crashing exhaustion in her 80s. Why do some of my friends have mild hot flushes for a year and then they are through the menopause whereas others, like myself, keep on having symptoms?

purpleskull Sat 26-Sep-20 13:46:10

How easy is it to self-diagnose menopause whilst on a birth control pill with no periods? What symptoms should I look out for?

sxhamilt Sat 26-Sep-20 13:46:21

Does the menopause really affect your memory or is that just an urban myth?

mo3733 Sat 26-Sep-20 14:06:24

my periods are getting closer together, is that an indication of menopause approaching ?

moneysavvy Sat 26-Sep-20 14:12:26

I'm curious about any recent research on the possible causes of premature menopause? I started mine aged 30 and my last period was aged 32. Tests confirmed I was post menopausal at 33 but my GP couldn't give me any reason at the time. I've still no idea what caused such an early menopause.

beckyinman Sat 26-Sep-20 14:38:58

My mum went through the menopause at a really young age. Does this mean I am likely to as well, or are other factors in play here?
