Here's a new Wimbledon thread or those of us who love the tennis this time of year. Who's your favourite player? For me, it's Roger Federer, but Rafa Nadal comes a close second. smile

I might have said this last year but, does any one else think Pat Cash should be removed from the commentary box?
He has a bad case of verbal diarrhoea!

Thanks, Grannylin...he has presence. smile

I first spotted the mystery guy in the players box way back in 1989 when I went to Queens club. Google has the answer to his identity.

I have two questions:
1. Has anyone noticed whether Boris Becker has stated anything other than the bleeding obvious?
2. Why hasn't Sue Barker had her hair done for the biggest sporting event in her presenting year?

Ok I'm a bitch.

All this sitting about watching tennis isn't doing my joints any good at all!
I'm hobbling around like a little old woman grin

No rude comments please!

I have the strawberries and cream laid out, followed by cherries and grapes for nibbles as it is going to be a long day watching Laura and eventually Andy.

Thank you! It was bugging me. His prediction in 2011 might have been accurate (I can't remember) but it certainly ain't the case this year.

mollie Fri 28-Jun-13 13:34:24

Well that's solved that mystery! Well spotted Grannylin!

So someone please enlighten us! smile

gracesmum He's difficult to miss. Would like to know who the chap is.

Can somebody please tell me who the Kentucky Fried Chicken Col Sanders lookalike in the players' families' box is? It's getting to me - and he is always there! Grey goatee beard and Texan hat, today he was sitting back right as you look at the box.

merlotgran Thu 27-Jun-13 21:03:39

Oh Dear. Sue Barker's not going to be very pleased with my DH. He reckons she's starting to look like Anne Widdecombe. shock

Tegan Thu 27-Jun-13 18:58:08

I thought they were putting something slippy on the ground wink.

gracesmum Thu 27-Jun-13 18:54:31

With so many top players biting the dust (especially in Andy Murray's half of the draw) it has been suggested that somebody might be putting something in their tea!! Is Andy's auntie perhaps the tea lady at the All England Club?? grin

Ella46 Thu 27-Jun-13 09:32:51

grin

Ella46 Thu 27-Jun-13 09:32:02

Yes, Dustin Brown looks very interesting.

Back to the adjustment of their shorts (sorry to drag it down), wouldn't you think that they would have them tailor made if they can't find comfy ones?
It must distract them if the shorts are uncomfortable!

I really hate to see them fiddling about.

Charleygirl Thu 27-Jun-13 08:35:50

Michelle, who beat Maria Sharapova has an even louder voice than Maria if that is possible. To think that people pay a lot of money to listen to those hideous screams. There are rules re the screaming but the umpires etc do not seem to take a blind bit of notice. I can turn down the sound on my TV, the spectators are not so lucky.

Andy does have a chance this year unless some young whipper snapper beats himself and Novak.

Dustin Brown from Germany is sheer raw talent and with a decent coach, he will fly high.

mollie Thu 27-Jun-13 07:40:43

I saw Azarenka's interview, I could hardly make out a word because she spoke so quietly and mumbled...must save her voice for the tennis court!!

annodomini Wed 26-Jun-13 19:37:00

Even better - Victoria Azarenka, who outdoes even Sharapova in decibels, has also gone.

mollie Wed 26-Jun-13 19:16:56

I'm sorry to see Jo-Wilfred limp out ... such a nice chap! Glad to see Sharapova has gone too though, no more screaming! Can see a lot of debate about the condition of the grass ahead of us. Seems fine to me but what do I know?

shysal Wed 26-Jun-13 18:50:52

Glad I won't have to watch Rafa adjusting his underwear, but I notice that Andy Murray has started to do the same, but from the front. Surely he should have found a comfortable style by now! And I hope his balls don't fall out!

JessM Wed 26-Jun-13 17:47:59

That Joannna Lumley advert for BBC iplayer is rather good I think. I tried it for the first time yesterday and the quality of the transmission is fantastic.
A good solution for those married to sports addicts who cannot share the interest.

Tegan Wed 26-Jun-13 17:38:33

Every time I get back home another player is out with an injury. I'm am wondering if it's right for players to play in conditions where they're slipping all the time? Especially when a lot of the older players [by that I mean 23/24 confused] are nursing injuries anyway.

gracesmum Wed 26-Jun-13 17:18:38

Shock horror - Sharapova has called out her trainer. Laryngitis, perhaps? grin
Poor old Jo-Wilfried, sorry to see him go.
