Here's a new Wimbledon thread or those of us who love the tennis this time of year. Who's your favourite player? For me, it's Roger Federer, but Rafa Nadal comes a close second. smile

firsttimegrannie Mon 24-Jun-13 14:52:49

I love the tennis too - especially Roger! But Andy Murray is growing on me...

whenim64 Mon 24-Jun-13 14:56:57

Nadal just about to step onto court 1.

mollie Mon 24-Jun-13 14:57:13

Well, I'm sitting watching Sharapova and remembering the last time I watched a Wimbledon match, it might be as far back as when Sue Barker was actually playing! I don't know who is who or who to cheer on but as watching sporting events on the TV in the afternoon is one of the treats for non-workers I thought I'd give it a go...when are the strawberries delivered?

I love it too. Djokovic is my man. Nadal and Murray are growing on me gradually. Have never taken to Federer somehow. I love tennis and try to follow all the grandslams as much as TV allows.

If I won the lottery I would travel to all the grand slams and follow the sun around!

Also love John McEnroe commentating, he is so knowledgeable. Hate Andrew Castle commentating! He makes so many banal comments.

No

mollie Mon 24-Jun-13 15:10:01

Goodness shock does she have to scream EVERY time she hits a ball??

whenim64 Mon 24-Jun-13 15:13:12

mollie strawberries and clotted cream on their way to you now. It's your shout for the champagne! smile

mollie Mon 24-Jun-13 15:35:15

Ooh ta muchly. They're chilling the bubbly...

I'm fed up with the screaming so am willing the other girl to win now...

Ella46 Mon 24-Jun-13 15:56:07

I love Wimbledon but I can't stand that woman screaming!

Butty Mon 24-Jun-13 16:01:55

I thoroughly enjoy Wimbledon, and is one of the few times I actually sit and watch the television.
I'll be cheering for Andy this year!

whenim64 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:03:35

I would ather watch Nadal than listen to the screaming grin

Ella46 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:07:16

when Yep, me too! grin

Pittcity Mon 24-Jun-13 16:16:55

I think Nasal needs better underwear the way he keeps adjusting himself!

Bonl

No! Not again! Proper Lawn Tennis isn't like this - it takes place on the vicarage lawn, and is peaceful and - er- nice. With cucumber sandwiches, crustless and cut into isosceles triangles. That I could cope with. But not the ghastly Wimbledon version (it's supposed to be a Croquet club after all - they only had the bat and ball game invented for the ladies, to keep them occupied while the important game was played by the gentlemen. Harrumph!)

Love it! I've been to Wimbledon twice - what an experience! I'm on holiday just now, wandering along the beachfront looking for a bar with Sky - no joy so far, though! You'll have to keep me posted!! smile

whenim64 Mon 24-Jun-13 16:32:38

feetlebaum that's my notion of cricket, but you won't put me off Wimbledon, which, by the way, has been very exciting during the first set, with Nadal having a tough time - not for long, though! grin

Grandmanorm Mon 24-Jun-13 16:37:09

I used to love watching the tennis, but can't stand the grunting so don't watch it any more.

tanith Mon 24-Jun-13 17:06:37

I had to turn Sharapova off , that noise just does my head in..

Pittcity Mon 24-Jun-13 17:10:18

Jon Culshaw tweeted "That sound Sharapova's making sounds like the disco ping in 'Ring my Bell' by Anita Ward"

ninathenana Mon 24-Jun-13 17:47:24

YAWN zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

annodomini Mon 24-Jun-13 17:47:26

Watching Andy but worried about Nadal who has now lost two sets. The Belgian he's playing is using serve and volley to good effect and it's nice to see that for a change - not seen much since Tim retired.

annodomini Mon 24-Jun-13 18:29:45

Oh, poor Rafa - well below his best and his knees seem to be bothering him, though that's not to belittle his opponent's achievement.

annodomini Mon 24-Jun-13 18:31:03

I ended up watching Rafa on the laptop and Andy on TV with the sound off. That speaks of addiction. My bottom may have to be surgically removed from my chair at the end of the fortnight. grin

Butty Mon 24-Jun-13 18:49:02

I feel for Rafa, but congratulate Darsci.

Have unglued my bottom from the sofa and am off out gardening. A calm and mild early evening. Perfect for it.
