Here's a new Wimbledon thread or those of us who love the tennis this time of year. Who's your favourite player? For me, it's Roger Federer, but Rafa Nadal comes a close second. smile

Oh, I unthinkingly booked a pedicure at 5pm. Too late to cancel on them now. sad

The dusty bits get quite slippery, when. And they're both busting a gut to get at the most unreachable balls! tennis

whenim64 Fri 05-Jul-13 15:48:13

I wonder why they're both having so many falls? The court must be dry as a bone now. Someone will be getting injured at this rate.

I'm glad I've planned a quick and easy supper. tennis grin

Boris Becker is getting on my wick! Such inane comments........'it's like he's in chains, he's not free!' Someone needs chaining up, and he's in the commentary box!

Oh my giddy aunt! What a great game of tennis between Novak and Juan Martin!

Perhaps not so much in recent years, but for a long time the semi finals were always much better games than the finals.

PS. Front row seats are going for £20K shock

merlotgran Thu 04-Jul-13 21:46:16

My niece and her husband have tickets for the men's final. Obviously they're hoping Andy Murray gets through the semi as the atmosphere will be amazing. The going rate for selling them on is, at the moment, £10K for the pair. If Murray loses tomorrow their value will drop.

Her husband is adamant they're going on Sunday whoever wins tomorrow. £10K is mighty tempting though......hmm I know what I'd do. grin

Oh please don't let that big serving bloke beat Murray tomorrow; I don't ever want to go back to 'the Sampras years' sad. So chuffed that Sabine won today; put the internet on as soon as I got in to work as I had to know..wish I'd been brave enough to carry on watching now. Can't remember the last time I actually looked forward to watching the womens final [if ever].

Sunseeker, I agree with you - I was so peeved when I couldn't find any alternative to tennis on the BBC last night. It would surely have been enough to continue with the match on BBC2 and let the rest of us watch "normal" programmes on BBC1. DH loves tennis, used to play until injury stopped play. So far he has watched French Open, Davis Cup and even found some games going on at Eastbourne in the gap until Wimbledon started. Not a happy time for me, as I have no interest in any sport at all, but at least he turns the sound down so the inane gush is barely audible - even DH doesn't enjoy the drivel! In the interest of fairness, I wish they would give the players a chance to recover before thrusting a mike under the winner's nose, it must be very hard to talk after three hours on court.
Now the sun is shining, so I can retire to the garden with a glass of something cold and white (and I don't mean milk!) wine

I have just read this on facebook - and wanted to share!

"Baffles me when people call Andy Murray "dour". He's from central Scotland. We consider him dangerously flamboyant, talkative & over-emotional"

I was listening to the commentary as I drove home. Went to pick up a prescription and deliver it to the pharmacy expecting the match to be over when I got home. Lo and behold, it really went to the wire and I thoroughly enjoyed watching the end. By that time, although I wanted Lisicki to win, I would have been quite happy if the winner had been Radwanska - a very attractive player too.

betsysgran Thu 04-Jul-13 17:28:58

And Venus!

betsysgran Thu 04-Jul-13 17:28:19

Great match. Women's tournament sooooo much better without Serena.

whenim64 Thu 04-Jul-13 17:26:23

What a great match! Both would have been worthy winners. Can't wait for the final! smile

nonnanoo Thu 04-Jul-13 17:06:40

Can't believe I'm crying again about a tennis match! Good luck for the final sabine.

Grannyeggs Thu 04-Jul-13 17:05:17

Phew! What a match, glad she won, but some fabulous tennis from both. I'd like her to win, but she will have to be more consistent to beat Bartoli.

soop Thu 04-Jul-13 17:02:12

Lisicki...wow, a wonderful game and a worthy winner. grin sunshine tennis

Tegan Thu 04-Jul-13 16:35:47

...going in to work [should have gone ages ago]. Can't watch this any more sad; really want Lisicki to win...

Tegan Thu 04-Jul-13 15:36:40

I loved the way Bartoli spoke so warmly of her opponent. Bit concerned at the number of injuries these players are carrying; could the tennis season just be too demanding?

sunseeker Thu 04-Jul-13 15:14:00

Sorry - tennis doesn't do it for me but I appreciate many people do love it so resign myself to BBC being almost wall to wall tennis at this time of year HOWEVER, got really miffed yesterday when I switched on TV to watch early evening local news only for them to say they were staying with the match - so switched to BBC2 thinking it had been transferred there, but no some stupid man telling me how to make a cheesecake was on angry.

whenim64 Thu 04-Jul-13 15:02:25

Bartoli played a great match. This one between Lisicki and Radwanska is not going to be over as quickly, by the looks of it!

janeainsworth Thu 04-Jul-13 14:28:05

We watched the Ladies Doubles on Court 2 yesterday - perhaps not so much cachet as the Men's Singles but wonderful to see scintillating tennis played live. I couldn't help thinking back to when the women's game was criticised for being boring and slow - not any more. Those women had strength, power and athleticism in abundance.
Oh and we watched the final 3 games of Andy's match on the big screen as we left. There wasn't even standing room on Murray Mound and we were moved slowly on by security - but still saw the last point and the atmosphere was something I've never before experienced !
Thought of you Soop and wished you could have been there grin
