Here's a new Wimbledon thread or those of us who love the tennis this time of year. Who's your favourite player? For me, it's Roger Federer, but Rafa Nadal comes a close second. smile

I'm a wreck!

soop Wed 03-Jul-13 17:24:14

There again...he has us on his side. wink

soop Wed 03-Jul-13 17:14:44

I feel tortured. Have a banging head. Fear that Andy may not recover. hmm

How much hair spray has Verdasco used? His hair stays remarkably immaculate. grin

Tegan Wed 03-Jul-13 16:50:03

They were questioning whether his back was bothering him again earlier sad.

annodomini Wed 03-Jul-13 16:41:10

What's up with Andy this afternoon? Has he lost some of his momentum?

annodomini Wed 03-Jul-13 16:11:34

Del Potro is 1.98 metres which is about 6'5". Ferrer is 1.75m - about 5'7.5". Yes, Tegan, that is quite a disparity. A lot of the male tennis players are way over 6' and many of the women would dwarf Ferrer!

How big is Del Potro [or is Ferer [sigh] very small?]. Reminded me of one of those Spitting Image sketches.

Wow, I didn't see that. Lovely. What sport is about at a normal level. I so love tennis, my favourite game. It does feel as if there's a changing of the old order this year which is good.

The funniest bit was when one of them told the ball boy to keep his racquet and take over. He lost the point for them and got sent back to his position. The crowd were laughing their heads off grin

Yes, saw that whenim64 - I came late to it so was a bit confused with all the Macs but great to see. I sort of felt I might have been able to join the match, then saw the service speeds - at their age envy Wonderful.

I loved it when, it was such fun. It reminded me of the men's doubles matches in the Ken Rosewall era which were very entertaining and light hearted.

No. Not my idea of heaven.
Can we have Pointless back please?

whenim64 Tue 02-Jul-13 22:15:11

Did anyone see that lovely veterans doubles match? John McEnroe and his brother against McNamara and McNamee. Lots of funny moments, very enjoyable.

I am a huge Wimbledon fan, but can't seem to maintain too much interest this year, apart from Andy and a few others. Have to admit I'm glad Serena and Shriekapova are out,so at last the Ladies Final will be different and, hopefully , shriek free.
It's good for Andy, but having no games featuring Nadal, or Federer, the lead up to the final just doesn't seem as compulsive to watch.

Ella46 Mon 01-Jul-13 22:57:37

I missed everything today except Serena being beaten by that lovely German girl.
Had to leave just as Andy was about to play and got home at 10pm, but at least he won! smile

It was worth it to see my gorgeous dgds.........................there was an awful lot of hair tossing and flicking grin

Tegan Mon 01-Jul-13 22:56:07

I've realised why I like Lisicki so much; she reminds me of Alice in the Vicar of Dibley.

annodomini Mon 01-Jul-13 19:40:37

I love watching Djokovic. He will be very difficult to beat. tennis

I'm loving today's play. Nice cup of PG Tips for me, after the bowl of Scottish strawberries I've just enjoyed smile

annodomini Mon 01-Jul-13 19:26:01

Nice bucket of redbush for me, soop. tennis The cat temporarily resident next door - Emilio - has taken a liking to my decrepit garden furniture, so I am about to claim part shares. He currently co-exists with 6 labradors and a mischievous spaniel puppy.

soop Mon 01-Jul-13 18:21:17

Out with the malt. Time for a celebration dram. Fantabulous day. Novak about to play. Can't take much more excitement. Rory is savouring a special chicken treat. grin tennis grin tennis

Well done Andy! I'm so enjoying this years tournament, cried with emotion when liscki won. She seems such a lovely young woman.
I do get a bit frustrated with BBC keep switching channels half way through matches. Dust and cobwebs coming along very nicely

annodomini Mon 01-Jul-13 17:44:39

My nerves are in shreds watching Andy!
Why is it that when the media report a defeat, a player is said to have 'crashed out' of Wimbledon. It makes it sound so cataclysmic. Poor Laura didn't 'crash'. She did her damnedest but the other girl was that bit more experienced. It is a prime example of lazy journalism.

soop Mon 01-Jul-13 15:33:29

Lisicki has a beautiful smile and I'm chuffed for her. sunshine

Now for our Andy. grin

annodomini Mon 01-Jul-13 15:33:12

Now for Andy. Can I stand the stress? soop gie's a lick o' yer Magnum! grin
