Not long to go now until the Worlds start. The final places on the team being resolved. It was wonderful to see the Olympic Stadium so packed last weekend. Who are your UK medal hopes this year?

JessM Sun 18-Aug-13 20:34:50

Over at last. The relays were nerve wracking with the chaps getting disqualified (so sorry for them) and the women getting a bronze on appeal. Well done those young women, one of them only 17. grin

Mo's double win brought tears to my eyes and made me proud to be British.

JessM Sat 17-Aug-13 12:12:30

He was in one of the football youth academies I believe.

Tegan Sat 17-Aug-13 10:53:21

The S.O. told me to look out for Gemili last year. Wasn't he all set to be a professional footballer at one time [or something like that; can't remember]? What a talent he is.

JessM Sat 17-Aug-13 07:59:17

Just realised no-one else other than Mo and his training partner even attempted to run the 10k as well as the 5k. The experts are all in awe.
Watch the women's relay tea time and the 200m final with our own youthful Gemili in the next lane to Usain.

I'm not a big athletics fan, but had to get home today to see Mo's race. Brilliantly done and so well deserved! He always seems a genuinely nice person - and such an enormous talent!

Tegan Fri 16-Aug-13 20:01:24

I was a wreck watching it; felt they were all out to get him [well, more so than usual]. Loved seeing Brendan with his cup of tea beforehand.

JessM Fri 16-Aug-13 19:48:26

Thank goodness for Mo, it is rather disappointing championship otherwise. But Mo entered the halls of the all time greats today.

Blow me down. An Irishman beat the Russians and won the 50k walk. Well done Rob!
(and he has that Irish sense of humour too. And the lovely Cork accent. Watch again on iplayer if you missed him in the studio about 7.40)
Somehow i don't think Dai Greene is going to retain his title, he didn't look right when i saw him in the Olympics heats last year. And hasn't been right since. So...
This afternoon's excitement should be:
Perri Shakes-Drayton in the women's 400m hurdles, 1,500m runner Hannah England and high jumper Robbie Grabarz

JessM Tue 13-Aug-13 19:02:10

pleased for the Russians and Isinbayeva. First time she has won a world title in front of a home crowd and she had been such a fantastic champion.

PRINTMISS Tue 13-Aug-13 16:48:50

I cannot stand Gaby! She is just that, I am afraid, seems to think that shouting makes her more interesting, which it does not. Paula Radcliffe has come over very well, but then of course she knows her stuff. Just leave Colin alone please, he is a lovely lad. (and I am not Welsh). Apart from that I am enjoying the occasional visits to Moscow, great to see everyone competing again. and what a dedicated lot they are.

JessM Tue 13-Aug-13 16:00:58

Katerina Johnson-Thompson (what a mouthful) - could just get a medal in the heptathlon this afternoon. Only 20 and 2 personal bests so far today.

JessM Tue 13-Aug-13 12:13:59

Yes I think CO was in trouble because she was being disorganised and not adhering to the stringent requirements to let the drug people know every hour of her diary.
In a couple of years the IAAF are bringing in a 4 year ban, which will effectively end an athletes career if they are caught doping. Good thing too. I felt so sorry for Valerie Adams in the Olympics to be done out of her gold medal ceremony by a doper. She looked v happy yesterday. I hope there are some more big Kiwi women following in her footsteps - they can breed em on a magnificent scale down there.
Colin - well bless him (being a Welsh boy can do little wrong in my eyes of course). He has a slight speech impediment and has done a great job getting to the level of fluency that he has achieved on TV. Not a natural. Nice to have MJ in the studio again - he is always interesting.
And my nomination for the best designed kit is Jamaica. The mens' with those zebra stripes and the women's vests which seem to show off their magificent torsos. The rest, not in the competition?

Charleygirl Tue 13-Aug-13 11:35:00

OGM I quite agree. I cannot believe that Dwain is now 35 years old and running so well.
My personal feeling is that if they have used perfomance enhancing drugs, and it has been proved with blood and urine tests, they should be banned for life, not just a couple of years.

Oldgreymare Tue 13-Aug-13 08:28:56

They only trouble is, I have a problem supporting those athletes known to have used performance enhancing drugs, particularly Dwain Chambers!
Christine Ohorogo was suspected of an offence because of missed tests and has since been exonerated so I should support her!

Looking forward to watching over the next fews days now I have time. I like Gaby hosting and think that Paula Radcliffe is articulate and knowledgeable. If Colin Jackson says 'Indeed' one more time I may have to hit him over the head with a hurdle!! He needs to expand his vocabulary!!

JessM Mon 12-Aug-13 20:07:56

Yes it WAS, Well done Christine and also the legendary Valerie, star Kiwi.
Quote of the day, from the very happy women's 100m world champion. She told the world that she was a bit worried about the final because she had... imagine a lovely Jamaican accent "A pay-an under my left butt cheek" grin

JessM Mon 12-Aug-13 16:00:48

Todays must watch is Ohorogu. Go Christine.

JessM Mon 12-Aug-13 16:00:10

He does OGM, but glad to hear he is still jogging.
That was a while back , Dave Bedford.
My grandmother would have loved watching the world champs. She was entranced by watching the 4 minute mile - in the early days of black and white TV. She used to talk about it often in the years that followed.
Not sure about those dayglo pink pants today though Gabby.

Oldgreymare Sun 11-Aug-13 22:26:58

Compared with/to (not sure which at this time of night) the fashionistas, Brendan Foster looks like an old farmer ( no offence to farmers).
Anyway they all sound better than David Coleman he of the Coleman balls! I still remember him combing his hair with a nasty little plastic comb before a piece to camera at the White City.... we were there to watch Lilian Board and David Bedford.... remember them?

Tegan Sun 11-Aug-13 19:13:25

When we're oop north Brendan Foster sometimes goes jogging past the flat [he's not very fast these days].

Nonu Sun 11-Aug-13 19:12:36

Well done Usain , a good all round chap .

tanith Sun 11-Aug-13 19:06:09

Debaba is in a class all of her own isn't she? I thought Paula's frock was a very odd choice if I'm honest it would look more at home at a cocktail party.

JessM Sun 11-Aug-13 19:05:58

Undoubtedly the Gabby, Denise, Colin and Paula line up is the best looking and best dressed studio commentary team in the history of the universe.
Come on lurkers - you can join the fashion commentary even if you don't know a thing about athletics.
Question: am i being unreasonable to think false eyelashes on the track is a bit over the top?
Question: which team do you think have the best designed kit?

Oldgreymare Sun 11-Aug-13 19:00:50

Got it recorded Jess ready to watch whilst having supper on trays.... how slutty is that?
Will look out for the frock!
Colin Jackson is a poppet and always dresses well, do you think the gals are following his example?
Super's ready..... here we go........
