OMG just imagine opening against Djokovic on Centre Court at the age of 19. I suppose somebody has to play him.
Nothing to lose, but I hope Jack Draper is out there for a reasonable length of time!
Emotional introduction to this opening match - felt quite teary!

I'll be rooting for Italy before 8pm. Forza Berrettini!!!

merlotgran Sun 11-Jul-21 12:36:35

I’ll be cheering for Berrettini because he’s gorgeous. Quite happy for Italy to have the tennis. ?

Millie22 Sun 11-Jul-21 12:35:31

Obviously Berrettini.
Lucca may agree with me ?

Who will you all be cheering on this afternoon in the men’s final?
Although I know what a really talented player Djokovic is, somehow I can’t warm to him so I won’t be cheering him on.
Interestingly his opponent is Italian!

Callistemon: She isn't that young - age 25, is World Number 1 and was Wimbledon Girls' champion age 15 but took some time out.

She took time out and played cricket for Australia for a while. Eventually choosing to pursue tennis as her career.

She's not just an Aussie - she's a Queenslander!

We don't hold that against her.

British pair Alfie Hewett and Gordon Reid have won a fourth Wimbledon men's wheelchair doubles title, beating the Netherlands' Tom Egberink and Belgium's Joachim Gerard 7-5 6-2.

Yes, it is but some are only 17 or 18.

Is there a time to retire gracefully I wonder?

J52 Sat 10-Jul-21 22:25:03

I stand corrected!! 25 seems quite young to me compared to those playing who are in their late 39s.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed the match.

Callistemon Sat 10-Jul-21 22:23:51

Well done to the Croatians

Great ladies singles final. Congratulations to Ashleigh Barty, I was so rooting for her I shed a tear as she won.
So wonderful to reach her dream at such a young age. Hope to see a lot more of her.
I’m enjoying the new youngsters getting their chances.

Well done Ashleigh Barty a really enjoyable final. Anyone else getting emotional ?

Oh totally ?

Lucca Sat 10-Jul-21 20:33:58

Did anyone watch the ladies doubles ? Fantastic match., BUT I though the presentation was very lacklustre. Why didn’t they have a royal on court to present ?

muse Sat 10-Jul-21 16:38:13

Yes Grandmadinosaur

NanKate I can highly recommend Andy Murray's documentary "Resurfaced" on Netflix if you haven't already seen it. I loved him before, but even more after watching him in that ... such dedication and hard work, and also a family man.

Andy was a big lad who took a long time to grow into his frame: over the years we’ve watched him grow physically, mentally and emotionally and that’s why many of us have warmed to him. I feel his pain playing games that he knows he should win technically but his body lets him down. Sportspeople have to be ready to retire when they have to through injury and, sadly, he isn’t emotionally there yet. I think we’ve all warmed to his mum over the years, too.

A match at last.

Millie22 Sat 10-Jul-21 14:46:40
