OMG just imagine opening against Djokovic on Centre Court at the age of 19. I suppose somebody has to play him.
Nothing to lose, but I hope Jack Draper is out there for a reasonable length of time!
Emotional introduction to this opening match - felt quite teary!

DH and I want to know how to shut the commentators off but keep the rest of the sound.

Short of going there and stuffing a tennis ball into John McEnroe's mouth I don't know what to do?

Grandmadinosaur Fri 09-Jul-21 14:45:16

NanKate I’m on front row as I type. Is it too early for a nice glass of Pinot Grigio Blush or is that a silly question ?‍♀️
Oo yes please to a chocolate - no hard centres though I have a broken tooth at the front.
Berrettini breezing through at the moment.

NanKate Fri 09-Jul-21 13:54:12

DS is such a nice young man glad he has support from some of us GNs. Perhaps we could all sit in the front row clutching out Pimms. Anyone fancy a chocolate?

One of the many things that annoy me about ND is that on occasions he tries to get the spectators to clap more for him! He’s number 1 in the World for heaven’s sake, he should have more dignity. Rant over. “

Another Shapovalov fan here!

Sparklefizz Fri 09-Jul-21 11:10:35

Do hope Denis Shapovalov beats ND tomorrow.

Me too, NanKate, he's exciting to watch and somehow I just can't warm to ND.

Grandmadinosaur Fri 09-Jul-21 10:25:16

NanKate thanks for that I wasn’t aware of that. I’ll keep a look out for that.
Another one here behind Shapovalov ? . I’m pleased the Berretini game is on first so I will watch it in peace this afternoon while DH is at work. He knows better to want to watch anything else on TV during Wimbledon fortnight but still has a little moan now and again. I did point how long it is on compared to the football season!

Grannybags Thu 08-Jul-21 21:09:52

Thanks NanKate I'll look out for that

I hope Shapovalov wins but I can't see it happening unfortunately

NanKate Thu 08-Jul-21 21:05:15

For any of you who are Rafa Nadal fans, he has accepted a Wild Card to play in the Washington Tournament 2 - 8 August.

Do hope Denis Shapovalov beats ND tomorrow.

Ken Rosewall retired when he was 46

Callistemon Wed 07-Jul-21 22:19:14

It could be because he's 39, getting on a bit?

Luckygirl Wed 07-Jul-21 22:12:12

I wish the commentators were not writing Federer off because of one lost match.

Callistemon Wed 07-Jul-21 21:33:06

Yes BB has aged enormously - and put on a bit of weight. He would no longer fit in a broom cupboard for the purposes of procreation! grin

grin

Yes, he looks much older but he's still only 53.
He hasn't aged well.

Lucca Wed 07-Jul-21 18:19:43

He wasn’t “himself” was he? But the polish guy played a blinder too.

Anniebach Wed 07-Jul-21 18:16:49

Federer ?

Lucca Wed 07-Jul-21 17:55:55

Just switched on to see gorgeous Berettini….

I scarcely recognised Boris Becker this evening...

LauraNorder Thu 01-Jul-21 18:43:59

Watching Roger Federer, such a class act

JenniferEccles Thu 01-Jul-21 09:32:31

A wonderful result but I do sometimes wonder why I put myself through the agony of watching a long Andy Murray match with all its inevitable ‘heart in the mouth’ moments!

Then he wins and I know exactly why I watch as I leap up from the sofa in delight!

How long can he continue though with these five setters and only one day in between matches?

Apparently Friday’s match is expected to be a real challenge, as if the others haven’t been!

Grandmadinosaur Thu 01-Jul-21 07:21:47

Great result. Looking forward to Fridays game.

J52 Thu 01-Jul-21 07:11:01

Yes, I don’t get the shouting. He looks like he’s angry and swearing, I’m sure he’s not.
Can’t wait for Friday’s match.

Lucca Thu 01-Jul-21 07:10:35

Mawbe… no I got it !

rubysong Thu 01-Jul-21 06:40:38

Well done AM after last night's marathon. I wonder how he's feeling physically this morning. I just get fed up with all that shouting after each point. They were both doing it. Who were they shouting at and what were they shouting? It seems a bit childish to me.

Come on Kim (not Lady Murray by any chance?)
Who can deny Andy’s effervescent charm, his optimism, his laugh a minute demeanour and his witty badinage ? ??

But…yes a professional tennis player, not an entertainer ! I used to find him a bit dour, but he won me over when he lost in the final and cried in his interview.

He also has a certain similarity physically to my DS2 (who is however infinitely better looking of course)

Oh Lucca please don’t say my irony fell short of the mark.
Hawkeye please?
