I never watch football as I hate it but I did watch last night because I am English and proud of my country. It was very exciting and at the end was thrilled with the result and the way the players behaved.

However, having seen that an English fan shone a laser in the Danish's goalkeeper's eye when Kane went to take the penalty kick I was ashamed.

Hate football as it has a history of being followed by thugs? Wow. How very ignorant.
I LOVE football, am 59, have a season ticket, go on my own, often sit on a wall in the car park just soaking up the atmosphere before the game with a can, or two, of g&t. Does that make me a thug?

MerylStreep some haven’t even got a glass

As I posted up thread, I am not a fan of born again football armchair experts

I'm with those who think that the game should have been stopped and England disqualified meaning a Danish win. Harsh? Very, but the alternative is being seen to be content to let supporters get away with outrageous thuggery.

Since that didn't happen I hope that Uefa impose sanctions as well as fans.

Banning would be insufficient.......it is a criminal offence that has been committed and he should be charged.

I hate football - it is a violent game that breeds violence in the "fans."

Denmark have also been accused of underhand tactics when the wall of defenders stood too close to our goalie for a free kick and blocked his view. Apparently they should be more than 1m away and it looked as if they were a lot closer. I think it was this free kick that led to Denmark’s goal.

lavenderzen

But as always on here let's concentrate on the negative!

Oh how true. Forget glass half empty, I don’t think some people ever had any liquid to begin with ?

I don’t think thatEngland won by skill at all. The first England goal was an own goal by a player, and the second goal was from a soft penalty, I didn’t think that it was even a penalty. Kane’s first attempt was saved and then he scored on the rebound. No it was not a fair outcome at all. The way some idiotic fans behaved was appalling. I think Italy will win on Sunday

Aepgirl Fri 09-Jul-21 11:00:58

How (and why) do these idiots manage to get a ticket to the stadium?

Shirlb Fri 09-Jul-21 10:50:46

Bit more ashamed took a dive to win?even the commentators were surprised!!

HannahLoisLuke Fri 09-Jul-21 10:49:30

I’m not a football fan, Much prefer rugby but I have watched some of the Euro matches. I’m ashamed and disgusted at how some fans behave and that is chiefly what puts me off the game.
It’s high time the clubs and football authorities took a much stronger stance on thuggish behaviour.

I’m delighted to say that I saw on the news this morning that Sam Astley and his partner who is a critical care nurse have been given tickets for the final. I really hope his donation was successful.

I must admit I'm not a football fan so I missed all the fun. Lasering some one no matter who is the perpetrators and who is the victim it is wrong and dangerous. I did hear the national anthems and admit I was ashamed as the English fans booed the other team, that is wrong too.

wallers5 Fri 09-Jul-21 10:33:52

I agree. Also booing the Danish National Anthem.

I don’t understand penalties and I’ll never understand the offside rule!

Maybee and Jaxjacky yes there is an element of luck in the sport and we may need it on Sunday evening. Maybee your DH is right and the Danish team had a few dirty players. I noticed one in particular with tied back hair and hairband and more than once he done some dirty tackles so at the end I was glad we won.
The cheating is supposed to be about the diving. I have seen today quite a few English former players saying they were not happy about England being given that penalty.
Proper seasoned old time footballers don't like penalties like that in a game not sure why I am not in complete understanding what the reason could be.
All I was bothered about was us winning.

Callistemon Thu 08-Jul-21 15:30:40

Should a well behaved team be penalised for the behaviour of some so-called fans?

No, those fans should be escorted from the ground and banned.

Callistemon Thu 08-Jul-21 15:27:36

Toadinthehole

It doesn’t sound like a fair victory to me. If I was the opposite side, ( was it Denmark?), I’d want a replay from the start. I hate football too, and it’s had a history of being followed by thugs.

He saved the penalty!

Callistemon Thu 08-Jul-21 15:26:05

Well done, Sam Astley!

rafichagran Thu 08-Jul-21 15:25:47

I am glad the title of the thread said fan and not fans. I think the laser incident was disgraceful, I hope this individual is caught and banned from attending any games.

Chewbacca Thu 08-Jul-21 15:14:36

Perhaps to offset the appalling behaviour of one spectator at the match, we have this today:

A man who won tickets to see England's Euro 2020 semi-final win over Denmark gave them up because he was due to donate stem cells the next morning.
Sam Astley, from Sedgley in the West Midlands, said he would have loved to have been at Wembley, but "there was no way I was going to delay this".
He has been praised by the Anthony Nolan Trust and Gary Lineker, who said it was "amazing".

Lineker added to calls on Twitter to get him tickets for the final instead.

One bad deed, one good deed.

Jaxjacky Thu 08-Jul-21 15:06:07

Agree Maybee there should’ve been an earlier penalty.
3nanny6 can’t be cheating, the referee decides if it’s a penalty, after the VAR check, all refs are aware of diving if that’s what Denmark are saying.

England have been charged by UEFA for the laser incident, also disturbance for the Denmark national anthem and letting off fireworks outside the game.
Three incidents are going to get England a hefty fine and it could have been avoided.
I was happy we got our win and think we deserved it although now Denmark are accusing us of cheating. They are not happy about the penalty kick. I really hope this is not where things do not start to get a bit nasty we have done so well and I like everyone would love to see out lads do well and even win the game on Sunday evening.

I think there is always an element of luck in most sports and England possibly should have been awarded a penalty earlier ( not that I understand these things). And DH says the Danish team did play a bit dirty at times.

The Austrian forward who UEFA investigated for an anti Albanian slur got a one match ban. Hungary is being investigated for several incidents of homophobia and racism in their games, so I suppose they have to investigate these incidents too.

I would imagine it is England being charged rather than individual players. If we could find the perpetrator of the laser incident it would be a help.

I know from running a football club in this country the club is responsible for the safety of everyone at the ground and can be charged for any disdemeanors that occur. Our club was charged by the FA because a spectator swore at the referee as he was going in the changing rooms. We were found guilty and fined £30. Most annoying thing was we didn’t know who the offender was so that we could take action against them.

Smileless2012 Thu 08-Jul-21 13:03:19

I hope the 'fan' is named and shamed. Someone must know who it isangry.
