I thought this a good idea

@MichaelRosenYes
I propose an Olympics for the over-70s (further sections for over-80s, -90s, 100s).
To avoid heart attacks and other forms of dropping dead, the sports would be eg toe-nail cutting, best dishwasher loading, memorising shopping lists, stone-paper-scissors, TV switcher use etc.

I would add best time at going up the stairs (with bad back)

Fastest recall for what day of the week it is - no cheating by looking at date on today's newspaper.

God, this is depressing!

Remembering the name of the person you are talking about. First person to bring it to mind gets the through to the next stage of the competition.

Oh, ignore that! I'm only 68!

How about a Maximum Joint Replacements in One Year category? Once I get my knee done that'll be three joints this year. Deserves at least a bronze, I reckon.... winkwink

The 'How Long Can You Forget To Put Your Hearing Aids In Before Your Wife Commits Murder' event.

Tartan shopping trolley relay race, passing packets of corn plasters or Tena ladies instead of a baton?

V3ra Wed 04-Aug-21 21:38:17

What about playing Rock, Paper, Scissors with a grandson?

(Asking for a friend who's been practising this afternoon so may have an unfair advantage...)

First one to remember why they went upstairs.

Superb! grin

The non velcro shoe fastening event.

How about the Going Out On Two Consecutive Days Event. No having a lie-in on day 2 nor lying down most of the afternoon and going to bed early. Day 2 must immediately follow day 1.

Gwenisgreat1 Wed 04-Aug-21 21:08:59

Sounds more fun that what is on TV these days!!

Blossoming Wed 04-Aug-21 21:00:22

We need some Athletics competitions.

The Hurdles - stepping up and down from kerbs without face planting.

Jousting - navigating the aisle of a busy supermarket with a shopping trolley

Fencing - walking canes at the ready!

This evening I am re-assigning my age identity to mid 80s as back is marginally better.

I am therefore attempting to enter the doing all the ironing without having to retire in agony competition tomorrow.

I might also attempt a “walking the dog” event, if my age identity continues to improve downwards.

The shopping bag shuffle.
The object is to buy 3 heavy bags of shopping, of variable weight, then shuffle as fast as possible to the nearest place to rest.

Points deducted for items squashed, and no shopping trolleys allowed.

The getting out of an armchair or off a sofa event.
Points added for needing both armrests to lever yourself up and the most decibels for the accompanying grunt.
