A platform for news, views and comments this Wimbledon fortnight.

Andy - how far will he get?
Who will be the most annoying presenter(s)?
Any Brits to look out for?
Anyone here going?

And not forgetting Lucca, who loved the game and the Championship🌻.

Never could, Callistemon.
Used to drive my DM potty!

Callistemon213 Wed 03-Jul-24 15:22:46

Please could someone ask McEnroe to keep quiet just for five minutes?
He doesn't seem able to stop talking.

ixion Wed 03-Jul-24 15:22:15

Alcarez being given a run for his money!

ixion Wed 03-Jul-24 15:00:37

Could work, Anniebach.
Mixed doubles always often seem to be made up of last minute pairings.

On a shallower note, hoping that the lovely Carlos Ramos, umpire, puts in an appearance😍

Anniebach Wed 03-Jul-24 12:48:38

Andy Murray and Emma Raducanu for mixed doubles

So Andy Murray left it to the very last minute to drop out of the singles. Never mind the extra work and worry he has inflicted on the organisers.
Very selfish of him in my opinion. He must have known before then.
Another reason why I dislike him!

Of course he knew before he told anybody, he just did it to annoy you! 😝

My last comment was for DamaskRose

Oh very funny! Ha ha!!

I also don’t like the displays of temper either.
Draper / Ymar match certainly was nail biting. Cameron Norrie/ Draper match will be interesting.

NotAGran55 Tue 02-Jul-24 21:16:49

👏 👏 Well done Jack.

It's passion. They work so hard and just lose it at times. Federer broke 6 rackets in his time, Djokovic approximately 52. Murray had his moments.

Only top player who has never indulged in this behaviour is Rafael Nadal.

Really don't like to see anyone breaking their racquet.

Quite agree. I’ve gone right off Draper after that. 😞

Very true, J52. Which is great for viewers.

Did you see Rublev , smashing his legs 7 times with his racquet? He drew blood. Out of the tournament now but maybe he needs to work on his outbursts.

Perfectly normal to be annoyed with how you're playing but this is totally beyond a normal reaction.

Anybody watching Jack Draper?

Yes! He's doing well

Not a walk over though.

A much respected poster who died.

I’m glad he’s decided not to play. He has a lot of life to live and better to live it as fit as possible.
I think sense has prevailed.

Crossstitchfan As you don't like Murray, I doubt you've watched the documentaries on his dedication, pain and commitment to rehab following major surgery. If you had, you probably wouldn't dream of implying that he invents injuries as excuses.

I think he's tremendous and has been committed to tennis since childhood. He's given tremendous entertainment over the years and I have every admiration for him.

Unfortunately injuries come to all sportsmen and women in the end - for instance Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer. I hope that Andy Murray retires now for his own wellbeing rather than limping through a match in pain when he only had surgery last week.

Thankyou Sparklefizz, exactly what I wanted to say but I wouldn’t have been so measured. 🤬

I’m wondering if even the doubles might be a bit too much for him.
I read this morning that his right leg still isn’t completely back to normal.
Whatever this fortnight brings though I am sure he will be hoping for enough of an improvement for him to take part in the Olympics later this month.

I really like Andy Murray despite his sometimes dour manner!
He is apparently great with younger players and always prepared to give up his time to encourage them and have a knockabout on the practice courts with up and coming players.

I think he has been misjudged over the years.
