About time England, cracking goal Watkins!

Whitewavemark2 Wed 10-Jul-24 22:34:55

😬 my name is mud - I booked tickets for the theatre and when we came out we couldn’t make out why people were making such a racket in a pub across the way.
DH is very long suffering!, 😄😄

I never thought I would ever say it but England was the better team.

To think I have to go through all of that again on Sunday.

BlueBelle Wed 10-Jul-24 22:42:52

I don’t even like football but I enjoyed it and the fact we won and vindicated Gareth Southgate who is I believe is a very good calm manager, was great 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

They always put us through the wringer but today it ended well. Well done England ⚽️👏🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

It was an exciting game wasn't it? Well done lads! Lucky timing to get the winner just in time to avoid extra time, hope the luck holds for sunday🤞🤞

madeleine45 Wed 10-Jul-24 22:54:42

not my thing! wrong shaped ball I watch the rugby!

Catterygirl Wed 10-Jul-24 22:57:57

Like watching paint dry but a good match today.

Callistemon213 Wed 10-Jul-24 22:58:00

Well done to the team and to Ollie Watkins for the last-minute goal!

Who was the pundit in the studio ranting at half-time about how the penalty should never have been allowed? Can someone give him a red card, please. He certainly shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the studio on Sunday.

I prefer rugby but did watch tonight's football match.

That was Gary Neville. He’s his own biggest fan 😂 well someone has to be.

Brilliant match, brilliant result!

If I find a subject uninteresting, I avoid the thread.

It is really weird that posters read then post on a thread to say they are not the slightest bit interested in the subject matter.

In fact 🤣🤣🤣

😁 Thanks Rosie51

I've heard of him.
I've given him a red card.

England 👏👏👏👏
Well done boys.

We were on video link to New Zealand where our family were watching it. The children are on school holiday at the moment, but our absolutely football mad grandson had to watch the end in the car on mum’s phone as she drove them to holiday club.
Mum has now rearranged her work schedule so they can all watch together on their Monday morning, our Sunday night.

In fairness Whitewave you couldn’t possibly have known. And you are on holiday, I think. He’ll be able to watch on Sunday so long as you haven’t booked anymore theatre tickets anyway.

I totally agree.
Thank you for putting it so well smile
Come on England!!

Cabbie21 Thu 11-Jul-24 07:20:33

Does anyone know why the final starts as late as 8 pm? There’ll be a lot missing work on Monday.

GrannyGravy13 Thu 11-Jul-24 07:34:46

Well done England ⚽️⚽️

Our 9yr old and The Imp (GSs) have got a lay-in school and pre-school have told parents they have till 10.15am to get to school as the match was a late one 👍🏻
The same will happen on Monday.

BigMamma Thu 11-Jul-24 07:37:43

I don't watch football but I always want to watch the last 10 minutes of the game. When it goes to penalties I get so stressed out.

kittylester Thu 11-Jul-24 07:45:01

I am pleased that Harry Kane scored as he seems such a lovely man and I suspect he won't be in the team for much longer.

I imagine that Southgate will resign at the end of this campaign.

Joseann Thu 11-Jul-24 08:02:16

We rushed home from staying away to catch the end. The joy on the face of the scorer, Watkins, said it all. And then all his team mates celebrating. I like the way Gareth Southgate goes and searches out all the players individually for a hug and a word in their ear.
Spain will be a tough team to play against, but anything is now possible.

annsixty Thu 11-Jul-24 08:29:28

After reading Whitewaves post I also realised I am out on Sunday night.
It is my birthday tomorrow and my GD and two of her friends are taking me out for a meal on Sunday evening.
If the booking had been my own idea I would be rearranging but as it is their treat for me I can’t.
I have watched all of England’s games and the other semifinal and feel ( very foolishly) that if I don’t watch this one they will lose

I don't know.

Football matches always seemed to start at 3pm when I was young 🙂

annsixty Thu 11-Jul-24 08:44:52

I think it is all to do with television and getting the maximum audience.
It seemed to start when matches started to be screened.
