Sorry to hear Gareth Southgate has quit as England manager. He said it was an honour and he gave it his all but time for a new chapter.
Good luck to him whatever he does. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

I don't blame him. No praise for getting to the finals twice just blame for not winning

I wonder who will be next? 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

Exactly*Grannybags*. He brought the team up incredibly. We had been dire before.

Bridie22 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:08:37

He has been a first class player and manager , deserves some praise for what he achieved within the England camp and team.

Visgir1 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:26:32

I expect he will be Sir Gareth soon and good luck to him.

Joseann Tue 16-Jul-24 13:29:43

Hopefully it was his decision alone. It would be horrible to see him sacked.

Smileless2012 Tue 16-Jul-24 13:31:20

Indeed Bridie. I hope he is Visgirl he certainly deserves to be.

Jaxjacky Tue 16-Jul-24 13:42:03

I’m not surprised and would like to see Eddie Howe take his place, he’s young and has a history of success.

JaneJudge Tue 16-Jul-24 13:44:03

That's such a shame, he was such a good manager and made all the right decisions

Poppyred Tue 16-Jul-24 14:03:11

He deserves a knighthood.

Desdemona Tue 16-Jul-24 14:41:11

I sure he will get a knighthood. Hopefully it was fully his decision to leave.

I think Frank Lampard would be good.

He’s a first class man and he’s something that a lot of men aren’t and that’s a kind and caring man and not afraid to show feelings He has shown the youngsters in the team to not be afraid of a cuddle and to accept defeat by caring for each other
He’s a man who is not afraid to show feelings and I love that about him
I hope he does get a knighthood he has ruled with kindness and you can see how that has rubbed off on the young players
❤️

A thankless job, he has received nothing but insults from ex footballers, I would have loved to see if they could have done better.

He has got them to the final twice, it is then up to the footballers themselves. But like my husband would say, I am the boss so I carry the can.

Well said, Bluebelle

He's a true gentleman and has brought so much to the game in ways that some who may criticise him have no clue about.

Decency, honour and kindness as well as bringing the team back from the doldrums.

Prince of Wales has paid a great tribute

Southgate has been a great England manager. He changed the culture and moulded an excellent young team. I’m sorry but nit surprised he’s decided to go.

I don’t want the women to lose her but Serena Weizman is another highly skilled, emotionally intelligent manager

BlueBelle Tue 16-Jul-24 16:09:05

Iam64 I agree about Serena another excellent manager who gets respect and dedication from the team

Harris27 Tue 16-Jul-24 16:21:31

He’s done well time for someone else to take the lead. Good luck Gareth!

It was time for him to go. He couldn't help his cautious approach, it's just the way he is but you have to take risks sometimes and he clearly found that hard. Sticking with a plodding Harry Kane when the game was crying out for an injection of youthful energy didn't help matters. Everyone could see the difference when Palmer and Watkins came on with both scoring an incredible goal apiece but Southgate would leave it too long to bring them on. As for the next manager. I would rather it isn't Graham Potter. Frying pans and fires spring to mind. If the FA want an English manager, then Eddie Howe, current Newcastle manager, if not then Klopp, Tuchel, Conte & Mourinho would be welcomed.

Mourinho

Oh dear no, he'll annoy everyone!

As for the next Manager it would have been great to have Pep Guardiola (Man City) but I doubt the FA can afford him.

Beautifully put Bluebell 🤗

Pep won't come cheap although both him and Klopp have said they would love to manage a national team sometime in the future, so who knows. I would dearly love to see England lift another major footballing trophy. I was 18 when it last happened. I live in hopes of experiencing that joy again.

Not Mourinho - I’ve enjoyed him over the years but he was hopeless at manu.

It’s easy for us all to be pundits from the safety of our sofas. Fwiw my view was Kane should’ve stayed home, he seemed tired and unfit. He talked about everyone being tired after after a tough long season. As he was there, i was calling from the sofa for the last two games, put Watkins or Palmer on to start. Keep Kane in reserve for the last ten minutes if yiu need him.
Southgate has been a good manager. I hope he gets praise nit moaning .
