In the 50 years between Sir Alf Ramsey and Southgate, England won 7 tournament knock-out matches. In 8 years, Southgate's England won 9 tournament knock-out matches.
I think he brought a new found respect to English football and I like to think the fans are different now. I really wish he could have won on Sunday. Do you think that, as a defender he just couldn’t bring himself to take risks? I hope he realises how much respect many of us have for him.

Mourinho won two trophies in his first full season at old Trafford (not counting the Community Shield which everyone discounts until their team win it 😂).

Gareth Southgate is a gent and a truly lovely man. We met him often in Yorkshire, walking round the reservoir where he lives. He was always such a nice, unassuming, kindly (especially to my aged mother in law) man. How anyone can be accused of not being successful when he's achieved finals etc etc, are those 'fans' living in a different universe? Blimey oh Riley, we reached the final 🤣🤣😘

I always had a yen for Mourinho - classy dresser and I enjoyed him smuggling his dog out when he was found to have smuggled it in. I accept this was dangerous criminal behaviour.
So this proves he’s a risk taker, something Southgate is accused of being averse to
I’d prefer Southgate in truth, integrity, loyalty, honesty, respect and skill👏👏

It was time for him to go. He couldn't help his cautious approach, it's just the way he is but you have to take risks sometimes and he clearly found that hard. Sticking with a plodding Harry Kane when the game was crying out for an injection of youthful energy didn't help matters. Everyone could see the difference when Palmer and Watkins came on with both scoring an incredible goal apiece but Southgate would leave it too long to bring them on. As for the next manager. I would rather it isn't Graham Potter. Frying pans and fires spring to mind. If the FA want an English manager, then Eddie Howe, current Newcastle manager, if not then Klopp, Tuchel, Conte & Mourinho would be welcomed.

Agree Sarnia, however he’s done a pretty good job overall, the players respect him as a man and a manager.

Gareth Southgate is a lovely, caring, unassuming man who got his players working with him. I met him a few times as his daughter played netball in the league I was involved with and he just supported her with no showiness but fatherly interest.
If you get the opportunity go and watch “ Dear England” which is a fantastic play based on Southgate’s approach to football. It tells you a lot about what he overcame to be manager plus it is amusing as well. It is on in Salford next year at The Lowry so I have booked but still being streamed from the National in cinemas

Pretty well everyone who gets a knighthood doesn’t either deserve or earn it.

He has been an incredible role model for sports fans both young and old. Something that doesn’t apply to some people that end up in the HOL’s. Anyway, I doubt if he’d want to do that. His heart is in football.

Cant understand knighthoods for people being paid well to do their job.
