Just that really. All things related to the 16 day event.

Joseann

Too much waffling is irritating me.

DH wanted the Antiques Road Show
Will turn over later.

Joseann Sun 11-Aug-24 20:51:39

The sound isn't good on the karaoke. We're getting a delay.

Smileless2012 Sun 11-Aug-24 20:38:16

Oh well done Joseann, we've been wondering what it was supposed to be.

Joseann Sun 11-Aug-24 20:35:35

I've just got it! The stage is a modern design of the five continents. The presenters haven't even mentioned that with all their "facts"!

Sit back and enjoy πŸ˜ƒ

For me, it'd have to be Emily Campbell, our weightlifter.
What a girl! ⭐️

Tony Roberts in the climbing wall. Breathtaking!

My stomach was churning watching him!

RosiesMaw2 Sun 11-Aug-24 19:09:17

Toby.
He trains at Yonder in Walthamstow where D3 has her office!

It was the medals in the events I wasn’t even aware existed that impressed me most. really enjoyed the climbing this time. My award goes to Sky Brown in the skateboarding though. She was already struggling to overcome a serious knee injury, then she dislocated her shoulder a week before her event, and she still took the bronze medal, at the age of 16, what a girl.

GrannyGravy13 Sun 11-Aug-24 18:05:19

DH and I have just said that.

Total medal tally GB 3rd πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Joseann Sun 11-Aug-24 17:48:39

Who stands out, GB, for you?
I'm picking Keely Hodgkinson in the 800 metres. She not only looks like my daughter, !, but she was so focused at only 22 years old. I had no idea she was deaf in one ear due to a tumour.
I'm saying GB came third, behind the two big nations, for the total medals won!

The last apparatus in the Women's Artistic gymnastics - Floor Exercise, won so triumphantly and brilliantly by Mexico's Rebecca Andrada with US. Simon Biles in Silver, has been subject to scrutiny and confusion since it finished last Monday.

Bronze medal was, apparently won by a Rumanian, who celebrated, then it was announced that an appeal by US had meant that this was to be awarded to Jordan Chiles (US) (following an appeal on her score givingher an extra 0.1) and she did go onto the podium to accept that medal. Obviously tears and heartache for 16-year old Rumanian girl, who has since announced that at that very young age she is now retiring from the sport.

Another Rumanian gymnast was in this 3rd mix and given no other way the Rumanian Federation took this matter to gymnastic legal proceedings. This has now been decided awarding this third place to the second Rumanian.

Over the past few days the international gymnastic community have hotly debated this whole matter with many videos, etc. Nothing the gymnasts did wrong, although they are the ones so effected. Faults lie with the judges and that will be separately looked into.

General feeling is that all three competitors should be awarded a , bronze medal but this is unlikely to happen.

All sorts of accusations have been thrown around, even including the fact that the result as it was had - for the first time ever- an all-black medallist podium.

It is so sad that the wonderful 2024 gymnastic competition has ended with so much controversy and more than sad for the three gymnasts involved in this through no fault of their own. This controversy will rage for many more years to come. It does not effect either Gold or silver for this competition, just third, fourth and fifth places.

And the weather in Paris is good!! 🌞

Watching the diving (women) Wow, just wow !

I know !!!!!
All of the dives look utterly amazing to me.

annodomini Fri 09-Aug-24 22:01:33

Yes...''breaking. Or, if you haven't been watching: break dancing. Street dancing is evidently a competitive 'sport', worldwide, judging by the two competing for the gold medal, who were Latvian and Japanese. It won't be on the schedule at the next Olympics in LA, so maybe never again... unless...well, what about Breaking on Ice. grin

ixion Fri 09-Aug-24 16:07:40

Breaking (sic), anyone?πŸ€”

Casdon Fri 09-Aug-24 14:30:20

Watch Toby Robert’s winning the climbing gold for GB this morning, the combination of strength and agility was amazing, I have no idea how they do it.

Sure, sure, sure x 3 πŸ˜†

I think what I've noticed this time is that some go to the Olympic Games sure of winning a medal and fail, yet some go with no hope of winning and succeed. Which makes it all the more interesting. I'm not sure what I'll do with myself after this weekend. Get out more for sure!

nanna8 Thu 08-Aug-24 08:09:24

I love the skateboarding and stay up half the night watching it. They are so skilled, unbelievable. My country is doing much better than everyone expected which is really thrilling for us all. We expect to do well in swimming but some of the other medals were a surprise.
