Just that really. All things related to the 16 day event.

An interesting idea, going down the Seine so I’m sorry to say I’m also a tad bored! The best bit so far has been the guy leaping across the rooftops. I wondered what would happen if he slipped and fell carrying that torch.
Surely there must be a stadium at the finish so the flame can be lit?

EkwaNimitee Fri 26-Jul-24 20:58:32

So far, we Brits did it far far better

Where's the chap/chapess running over the rooftops? Has he/she fallen off with the Olympic torch?

🤣

Oh god it’s so bad it’s all funny!

Sorry France, truly - but this ceremony is awful. What happened to a stadium where everyone who has bought a ticket can see the whole ceremony.

Also it's raining, remember what happened to Rishi Sunak …

I was worried the opera singer up on the roof would get hit by lightning but they seem to have brought her down safely …

“The Final Countdown”.
I hope so.

Reminds me of the Diamond Jubilee River Cruise.

tanith Fri 26-Jul-24 21:03:52

It’s dire even when you dip in and out I wonder what all the people along the Seine are doing now it’s dark and there’s nothing to see where they are. It’s just not inclusive at all.

Calendargirl Fri 26-Jul-24 21:04:23

And Mrs Macron looked bored and mardy.

ixion Fri 26-Jul-24 21:06:15

Enter Dionysius.
Apparently.

Urmstongran Fri 26-Jul-24 21:07:13

It’s all gone a bit Eurovision. I’m enjoying these comments better than the tv! 😁

Callistemon213 Fri 26-Jul-24 21:08:16

Calendargirl

mardy
That's an excellent Midlands word!!

Joseann Fri 26-Jul-24 21:08:56

My French friend in France has just messaged me, I hope you are enjoying le spectacle. Well that's one word for it!

merlotgran Fri 26-Jul-24 21:09:35

Maybe there’ll be some nice fireworks at the end. 🤞

fancythat Fri 26-Jul-24 21:10:15

This household wonders whether multiple athletes will catch colds! shock

merlotgran Fri 26-Jul-24 21:11:04

Why have they set fire to the piano?

Callistemon213 Fri 26-Jul-24 21:11:56

We've just turned back

DH: "Oh, that piano still works! They've set fire to it now, well that'll dry it out!".

Jaxjacky Fri 26-Jul-24 21:12:09

I was hoping no one has caught a chill fancythat, drop of Vick on the chest tonight.

aggie Fri 26-Jul-24 21:13:05

Burning piano is bizarre

Callistemon213 Fri 26-Jul-24 21:13:19

Yes, my thought too!

Gingster Fri 26-Jul-24 21:13:21

Oh dear! We watched for about 45 minutes. It’s so awful!
What a shame , we were so looking forward to the ceremony.

Joseann Fri 26-Jul-24 21:13:21

The best is yet to come!

tidyskatemum Fri 26-Jul-24 21:15:04

It's like a poorer version of the Eurovision Song Contest. I can't begin to think what conservative countries make of it. Doing the West no favours.

Joseann Fri 26-Jul-24 21:16:56

fancythat

This household wonders whether multiple athletes will catch colds! shock

Or a bladder infection à la Prince Philippe.

tidyskatemum Fri 26-Jul-24 21:17:43

DH keeps shaking his head and muttering "decline and fall".....

Urmstongran Fri 26-Jul-24 21:22:33

I’m not usually a fan of the Olympics but this thread has been SO entertaining (thank you all!) I must watch some events just to be able to join in the banter. Or the seriousness! A great thread to encompass everything the next 16 days.

Callistemon213 Fri 26-Jul-24 21:23:29

Usual annoying BBC coverage. As the athletes do embark with their flags, they keep flashing back to snippets of old Olympic Games. Interesting, but not just now, BBC!
