England v Sweden. What a nail biter!
I hate penalty shoot outs and thought it was all over (from behind my cushion) but they would not give in. I thought Sarina Wiegman looked shell shocked at the winning save!

Well Done Girls! Now the semis! ⚽️⚽️

congratulating themselves for doing their job
All I noticed was the emphasis on praising the team and staff as a whole. Perfectly normal.

Never watch football. I did a few years ago have a look at a women's match and thought "oh good, they are not running about looking for praise". Didn't last long, they are following the men's game of congratulating themselves for doing their job and will probably be on the same obscene salaries as the men very soon.

Well, you don't like football, fair enough, but why comment? And your final statement was just plucked out of the air and quite meaningless.

Sarnia- I agree with everyone you have said here. The Lionesses never give up when they are behind, they keep fighting.

Not for the first time, I am exasperated and embarrassed by the moronic comments of some of my fellow males. The Lionesses did the whole country proud, and in terms of skill, as opposed to brute strength, they were as good as the English men's team.

Well done ladies.
One small niggle, I do wish they would change their name though, because the British men’s rugby team is called the Lions - it makes no sense to me to have the English ladies football team called the Lionesses - something less confusing please.

The British ladies rugby team is called the Red Roses.

They done well and that's from a Scot but what gets on everyone's nerves are the media...total overkill. Girls football has been on Scottish PE curriculum for approx 30 years! I know I taught PE and coached girls football. 3 of my girls played @international level and one is a pro footballer

It make no sense though, does it GrannyGravy13.

The female football team is called the lionesses due to the lions logo on both male and female football shirts.

The female rugby squad is called the red roses as the red rose is the emblem of English rugby.

Casdon Mon 28-Jul-25 19:52:59

I know. But it’s still Illogical. The British female rugby team should logically be the Lionesses, if the male team is the Lions, as they have been for many years. Let’s not argue the toss over it though, it’s just a little niggle for me.

Mollygo Mon 28-Jul-25 20:51:30

If the women’s rugby team were lionesses, there’d be males feeling entitled to be on the team.

You’ve obviously never been part of a team that wins something that you were not supposed to win
Your loss. You’ll never experience that euphoria and joy.

So one player had a broken tibia but still played and the goalkeeper was told she'd never be able to play football because she has an eye condition which makes depth perception difficult! Well, you proved them wrong, Hannah.

Hannah Hampton is a worthy successor to Mary Earps.

Well done, Lionesses!

Well if you don't, why add your tuppenceworth?
As for your cynical and dare I say apparently uninformed final sentence - what evidence do you have , as the women don't yet command the massive audiences of the men's sport and if they did, so what?
