Abuse at the Ryder Cup

I am shocked and horrified at the abuse being hurled at the Europeans by the American spectators at the Ryder Cup. It really shows up the childish behaviour probably instigated by Trumps presence.
Is this how to make America great again?

Casdon

The guy who was rabble rousing yesterday has apologised and left.

It is truly awful behaviour from a small minority of USA fans. It’s nothing at all to do with the behaviour of the USA team itself, they have behaved like gentlemen, pity the fans haven’t too.

As your link states, it was a woman.

Ohh, sad to hear about this unacceptable & completely shocking behaviour during this high-level tournament.
It's rather worrying as so many of the golfing stars are hero-worshipped by males, young & old world-wide. I hope that a code of appropriate behaviour is introduced sooner rather than later.
It needs to be nipped in the bud & pronto! 😶

Manners does not seem to be a word in the vocabulary of some Americans.

I have just watched a documentary about the dreaded Trump where all his lies were listed and shown to be rubbish. He even told one gathering that Jo Biden had died!
There is something very wrong with that apology for a man!

GrannyGravy13 Mon 29-Sept-25 08:22:27

For all the banter (abuse) from the home crowd, the European Team rose above it and beat them.

Well done boys👏👏👏👏👏

Babs03 Mon 29-Sept-25 08:59:47

Yes well done Europe for winning and for having to do this against the backdrop of abuse from American yobs.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽

How sad that even sport in America is becoming taken over by the ill-mannered, abusive element.

👏👏👏 Well done to the Europeans for rising above it and winning. 🏆

I think the Ryder Cup has been this way for a while - but nothing on the scale of this!

Jaxjacky Mon 29-Sept-25 11:51:10

I went to bed happy last night, very pleased for the European Ryder team 👍

What a bunch of yobbos the American fans are! I don't follow golf but I was amazed to see those scenes on the news. I thought golf was a genteel, quiet sort of game smile.

As an American, I am ashamed of the behavior exhibited by the “people” in attendance at the Ryder Club. I apologize to the Europeans for the ugliness of my country. I am appalled and very sorry. sad

The Americans just do not like to lose on their home ground. Behaviour of spectators was appalling and stewards should have sectioned them off from seeing play. Well done to the European team fof keeping going inspite of the abuse. Haven't noticed any comments on behaviour from from Mr Trump.

Not when it’s played in Europe and the Americans are in the minority. I couldn’t be more pleased that Europe won through in the end.

Sorry, I was thinking of when playing in the USA.
I don't think Rome was like this!

Parsley3 Mon 29-Sept-25 17:01:16

I watched the singles yesterday and am pleased to say that the spectators were well behaved. It was quite nail biting as Europe looked to be snatching defeat from the jaws of victory until Lowry did the necessary to seal the win.

I believe they are in the minority, not your fault anyway.

He congratulated Europe players on winning.

I was pleased too, and DP was ecstatic 😄

As a golfer I have been appalled by the behaviour and think the biggest instigator is the sale of alcohol, fuelling the situation. It should have been banned. Also the American players did little to quell the chanting and lack of respect for the game. I am amazed the Europeans didn’t walk off until the crowd showed respect and observed the etiquette normal on a golf course.
Brilliant result in the end. 🇪🇺

Smileless2012 Mon 29-Sept-25 17:26:46

The Americans have always been extremely vocal but this was off the scale and it makes you wonder how much is due to their president's behaviour.

Casdon Mon 29-Sept-25 17:33:00

The full story from CNN. As they rightly said, the Europeans had the last laugh.

I’m pleased that Europe won.

It’s very sad that a minority, displaying despicable behaviour, give the majority of decent Americans a bad name. This is true of any nationality, of course, not just Americans -poor behaviour by a few tarnish everyone else.

Bazza Mon 29-Sept-25 18:52:18

I also was utterly appalled by the American spectators. I’m not a golf enthusiast but just saw it on the news. Apparently the bars were giving out little squeaky rubber ducks to put off the Europeans when taking a shot. What happened to sportsmanship? I would be ashamed to be American.

NotSpaghetti Mon 29-Sept-25 19:15:53

Please don't tarnish all Americans, Bazza
We aren't so great ourselves when we go on stag/hen dos and such abroad...

There will always be a minority spoiling things.

But so glad we won - this time in particular.

Bazza Mon 29-Sept-25 21:02:51

Of course not all Americans would behave like the golf spectators, and I’ve also been ashamed of the way some Brits behave abroad, we certainly don’t have a great reputation in some holiday destinations. I just thought that golf was a quite sedate support but what do I know! I’m also very glad that we won.
