I am shocked and horrified at the abuse being hurled at the Europeans by the American spectators at the Ryder Cup. It really shows up the childish behaviour probably instigated by Trumps presence.
Is this how to make America great again?

Quite! Dragonfly

Gingster Sun 28-Sept-25 08:47:44

Dh and I were quite saddened as we watched the players being heckled, abused and shouted at.
Someone has to do something about this as it’s very unsettling to watch. Imagine what it’s like to be there, . How the players can concentrate on their game I have no idea!

My DS is going today with colleagues. They are wearing kilts, this thread has me anxious. 😱

TerriBull Sun 28-Sept-25 08:56:24

I'm not a golf fan, but my husband is, so he keeps feeding me bits about what's going on "an absolute disgrace" allegedly. shock

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Sept-25 08:57:24

My husband and I have been talking about this.
The Europeans are winning.
I hope it makes them 100% more determined and they continue to be great inspite of it.

Yes. It is MAGA stuff and nobody is stopping it!

Grandmabatty Sun 28-Sept-25 08:58:57

I think there has always been catcalls. I remember watching the golf in the past and being disgusted at the jeers of the Americans towards the Europeans. However, now the shouts continue and get worse while the golfers are actually playing which didn't happen before and was very much frowned on.

MayBee70 Sun 28-Sept-25 09:05:11

And they’ve got the World Cup next year ( with Trump trying to move the games away from Democrat states…)

Aveline Sun 28-Sept-25 09:07:09

It's hard to believe this is happening in golf of all sports. It seems Americans never fail to disappoint these days.

Jaxjacky Sun 28-Sept-25 09:16:51

We were watching yesterday it’s appalling behaviour, I don’t blame Rory for his actions in response like refusing to putt until the stewards took action.
I hope Europe thrash USA, actions speak louder than…

dogsmother Sun 28-Sept-25 09:25:02

Not golfing etiquette at all. They should be asked to leave.

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Sept-25 09:31:43

Yes they should be dogsmother but they are just letting it happen.

I'm with you jaxjacky 🤞

eazybee Sun 28-Sept-25 11:15:28

Why are the Stewards not intervening , or as a last resort, stopping play?
Just what happened to Tennis, led by John McEnroe.
Ah, money involved.

NotSpaghetti Sun 28-Sept-25 11:15:37

If the MC can't keep quiet it's a bad do!

Am afraid if their president leads by example is hardly any wonder the US crowd think it is ok to hurl abuse.
The golfers should lay down their clubs and refuse to play on.

Aveline Sun 28-Sept-25 12:04:18

I agree. The European players should just leave the golf course.

Oreo Sun 28-Sept-25 12:13:26

The Americans have been doing that for years, it’s how they are and they think it helps their own players.
Not excusing them at all, it’s bad behaviour and very unsportsmanlike. The European players have come to expect it.
I did hear some British fans there chant ‘you’re not singing anymore’ back at them😁

TerriBull Sun 28-Sept-25 12:51:13

Bad behaviour indeed! and without the wit might I say as displayed when English football fans, on hearing that long suffering Colleen had left Wayne for one of his various misdemeanours a while back, were heard singing to that well known Bob Marley refrain "No Woman, No Kai" kind of funny, well not for Wayne of course! Anyway she'd probably only taken off to Dubai with 17 pieces of luggage leaving a note "sort out your own food and dirty washing from now on, dinner's in the dog"

Nandalot Sun 28-Sept-25 13:48:16

Especially bad as it appears some are doing it deliberately just as a shot is played.

dotpocka Sun 28-Sept-25 14:21:42

the ones doing it are mostly from america
blame trump he is a cheat ##$%^&*rednecks come in all shapes
here if someone at any other game they would be kicked out and fined, arrested if really bad

The behaviour of the US supporters was disgusting. They certainly don't show America in a good light.

Oreo Sun 28-Sept-25 16:34:34

They’ll be at it again in about half an hour.

Esmay Sun 28-Sept-25 16:51:45

I'm not a golf fan ,but Ioath disrespect shown to any player in any sport .
The perpetrators should be removed and banned .

Casdon Sun 28-Sept-25 16:56:27

The guy who was rabble rousing yesterday has apologised and left.

It is truly awful behaviour from a small minority of USA fans. It’s nothing at all to do with the behaviour of the USA team itself, they have behaved like gentlemen, pity the fans haven’t too.

But hey - this is America, Land of the Free! Until Trump's masked thugs from ICE come and sweep you off the street and dump you in a detention centre just because Trump has given them a mandate to do so.

And you don't know why. No problem - they'll think of something before they despatch you to a South American jail......
