A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

You seem to be the one who is becoming enraged by it all Padstow. I think it is fine for people to have strong feelings like yours and fine for people to express pride and enjoyment in their team.

Plevey08 Thu 16-Jul-26 07:29:02

Yes MartavTaurus, we still have a chance for Bronze against France on Sunday 😊

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Jul-26 07:36:48

Such a disappointment, we were outplayed.
Think it’s Saturday Plevey.

MartavTaurus Thu 16-Jul-26 07:37:57

I think it is Saturday at 10 pm.

That champagne needs to be drunk sometime though I need to restock the nibbles!

I'll say I'm enraged. On a very serious note let's consider all the female victims of domestic violence whose de-ranged football fanatic husbands/partners will have laid all the blame for England's defeat at their feet........ that's a result of 'strong feelings' Galaxy.

But I'm prepared to forgive you this time.

Galaxy Thu 16-Jul-26 07:42:32

Why would I need forgiveness from someone I don't know on the Internet.

MT62 Thu 16-Jul-26 08:42:59

I really hope Spain thrash the Argies 🤞

“We”? It’s nothing to do with me. If anything I’m relieved that England didn’t win, because if they had, the news would have been about nothing else for weeks.

Ahh that’s a shame you feel like that.
It would have been happy news for a change, instead of all the doom & gloom.

The English team did brilliantly to get that far . I had to switch allegiance to England ,my second team, once my team was defeated but Australia did well, too, considering they are pretty much newcomers to international soccer ( we have the AFL, completely different)

They did 👍🏻

Plevey08 Thu 16-Jul-26 08:58:15

Thanks for that.... Saturday it is.

If ever there is a pointless game of football it is 3rd/4th place in the World Cup. The England team must just want to get home to spend some family time before their domestic leagues begin again next month.
Tuchel must shoulder the blame for last night's defeat. To take off Anthony Gordon for a defender and play 5 at the back when we were only 1-0 up was foolhardy, to say the least. You may get away with that tactic against a poorer side but Argentina, who are reigning World Champions, not a hope.

Magenta8 Thu 16-Jul-26 11:39:19

Shame on the Argentine fans for booing the English national anthem and for displaying the placards. Whatever the rights and wrongs and there are plenty of wrongs on both sides, the question of who rightfully holds sovereignty of the Falklands/Malvinas should not be debated at an international football match.

Jaxjacky Thu 16-Jul-26 12:05:55

Keir Starmer has been asked who he’ll be supporting in the final, his spokesperson said ‘the PM wishes both teams well - especially Spain’
Sky News.

Galaxy Thu 16-Jul-26 12:07:24

That made me smile.

Millie22 Thu 16-Jul-26 12:12:03

I really hope Spain win now.

So disappointed especially for all the children watching last night. It was great for a short time to have something to be happy about.

Gosh yes.
I wont be watching.

fancythat Thu 16-Jul-26 12:46:09

As in, pointless game.

MartavTaurus Thu 16-Jul-26 13:19:26

I agree it's pretty pointless.

Just that they're my favourite two teams anyway, and I'm interested to see the dynamics between them. (And drink my champagne!)

MaggsMcG Thu 16-Jul-26 13:38:13

Well you don't have to watch it anymore. I hope Spain win.

Charleygirl5 Thu 16-Jul-26 13:49:17

I agree, I hope Spain win. I wonder how the Spanish supporters will be treated. I think Argentina should be banned and England play on Sunday instead.

Agree with all of that.

Oh that’s what I thought too! I don’t follow football at all but watched last night and wanted England to win. They played their hearts out.

Bazza Thu 16-Jul-26 14:55:41

Oh well. Again!

NannyJ21 Thu 16-Jul-26 15:17:12

I’ve lived in Australia for 63 yrs so went for the Aussie Socceroos. But England is the country of my birth so def wanted them to “bring it home “ sadly not to be…
England Will play France now to decide 3rd, so 🙏🏻 🤞 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿❤️
Also my Aussie DH and I watched Dear England last month …what a great doco. wonder if Southgate could have done it ? Sadly, We’ll never know.

jude2006 Thu 16-Jul-26 15:47:11

I am so very sad for our team as well, I don't think blaming Thomas Tuchel for everything by the media is very helpful. Our team did so well they should be very proud for everything.
