I read that the 'teacups' were featured in the opening ceremony.

I think you mean 'teacakes'. The Tunnock's teacake was a feature of the opening ceremony which I did watch.

Maybe as the games were due to be in Australia the BBC had other commitments and programmes booked like The Hundred (cricket)

They are only showing a hilights program on channel 5 tonight and tomorrow at 10.30pm GrannyGravy13 the BBC simply couldn't match the bid made by TNT Sport, is this the way all our important events will go? To whoever has the most money! Its bloody annoying!!!

Words fail me. The Commonwealth Games are an important national and international event. They should be available freely on a BBC channel.

I was suprised the opening ceremony wasn't on the BBC but channel 5 last night I didn't watch it as not that botbered about the opening ceremony but would like to watch the athletics and swimming but no its not on 'normal' telly. Its on one of the Sports channels you need to have a subscription for I only have Netflix courtesy of my daughter so it'll be hilights on the news presumably for me. So annoyed now, apparently the BBC couldnt match the bid so lost the rights. So anyone who doesn't pay to watch misses out what a shame.
