Shoes!

After years of being on my feet at work my feet are less than lovely. I despair of finding sandals or shoes that are both comfortable and attractive whicle covering up the lumpy bits! Why do manufacturers seems to think that there is nothing between thin strappy sandals and the thick ugly objects suitable for sporty hikers? Come on - a little more imagination and design please!

Oh how I agree! I can look at any shoe at ten paces and see where it's going to hurt my foot. I gave up sandals a few summers ago. Those nasty straps were all out to get me. Our local shop sells reiker and the lovely girl there has the patience of Job. I usually get sorted. Best of luck Maggie.

Must admit I now wear M and S boat shoes instead of sandals. They are really comfy and look summery but not too frumpy smile

My sister introduced me to Hotter shoes and they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn, really well made, good service from the firm and I believe are British! smile.

I'm not well off and think they may be a bit pricey (but I'm not sure!) but would definitely investigate, they really are smart and comfortable.

And no I don't work for them nor do any of my relatives grin

I personally really don't like Hotter - I find the styles too frumpy and, the one time I bought a pair, they shredded my feet. But each to their own.

I like Fitflops - both boots, sandals, and trainers. Very comfortable. Also find some Geox styles good-looking and comfortable.

Otherwise get my shoes from Hobbs, L K Bennett, Russell and Bromley and Boden. And Pretty Ballerinas.

Very pleased that flat shoes are now fashionable!

Have a look at the Moshulu website, lovely shoes, comfortable, colourful and unusual.

Camper shoes are very comfortable too!

I love L K Bennett, but find them too slim (and I don't have a particularly broad foot). I tend to buy Russell & Bromley. For work I tend to buy M&S Footglove shoes.

Not a fan of hotter...but agree Geox are very good as are Joseph Siebel and Gabor.....have the most amazing pair of bright red suede ones of theirs that really have been great party shoes!

There would be a very lucrative market for any shoe designer who came up with gorgeous, stylish, shoes for older feet. All it would take is slightly wider toe-room and a bit more arch support. So why are we lumbered with dull shoes that look like trainers?
My chiropodist approves of my boring M & S Footgloves, but I am so sick of them. I agree that Hotters are not attractive. And I am not ready for Cosyfeet yet!
Wake up to the "grey pound", someone...

Google Josef Seibel shoes; I can't get on the site as my computer is running really slow so I can't see what they have at the moment. I bought some clogs from a shop in Northumberland [I mean really stylish clogs..not cloggy clogs] and they are Josef Seibel. As ever our Eurpoean neighbours are way ahead of us when it comes to smart but comfortable shoes.

I really love the wedge court shoes that Kate Middleton wore the morning after THE wedding. Anyone know what I mean? And more important, anyone know where I could buy some? They look so comfy and classic and for all ages.

harrigran Mon 27-Jun-11 23:24:42

LK Bennett wedges, Harebrain.

Erm......Oxfam? British Heart Foundation? Just bought a lovely pair of Clarks summer sandals at the latter. Unworn, as new, £6.99. grin

susiecb Tue 28-Jun-11 08:56:55

Oh yes plsse nice shoes for wider feet - my feet are getting older before the rest of me Clarks seems to think all wider footed women are 97!

Annobel Tue 28-Jun-11 09:17:24

Strangely, I swear by Hotter shoes and sandals. Many now come in three widths. The sandals are very comfy and far from frumpy and as long as you don't want really high heels, the smarter styles are fine for me, though for you younger grans, perhaps they do look a bit elderly. When I'm wearing my comfortable 'everyday' shoes, I have to examine my feet before I go out to make sure I'm not wearing my (Hotter) slippers! And Hotter are not paying me to write this!

Bär shoes are even more comfortable than Hotter. Not British but if foreign is better than British I buy foreign. Better in this case means they fit my feet and are comfortable. Also very well made and long-lasting.

Annobel Tue 28-Jun-11 14:21:55

If the shoe fits...... smile

Harebrain Tue 28-Jun-11 22:28:33

Thanx Harrigran, I checked the website and found that those shoes were 2009 stock! We have a thrifty duchess! Unfortunately, the 2011 equivalent is quite a bit higher, as is the price, so I continue to dream. Thanks for your help, at least my curiosity has been satisfied.

Elegran Wed 29-Jun-11 11:37:18

DB shoes are great - wide fitting and look good.

Libradi Wed 29-Jun-11 20:37:01

Great list of shoe stockist, several I've never heard of but look great. I have such trouble finding shoes. I shall definitely bookmark them .

seraphicDigitalis Wed 29-Jun-11 20:42:29

Cosyfeet aren't that bad, are they? They have the advantage of offering VAT relief if you've a physical problem affecting your feet. But why can't we get decent wedges????? We could wear higher heels and have the necessary support.

Soupy Wed 29-Jun-11 21:52:24

I second Josef Seibel and also Gabor.

But my favourite shoes are a pair of black soft leather lace ups that i bought as an afterthought in a shoe shop in Germany about 4yrs ago.
They've hardly been off my feet since smile

Grumpyoldwoman Wed 29-Jun-11 22:33:02

I go for comfort all the time .......Fitflop sandals and boots. and Crocs !! Boring I know, but if I had to buy some smart shoes ...probably M&S as I am size 8 and I can try on without having to ask for my size (I have always hated shoe shops !!)
PAVERS have their own Sky channel and have some smart shoes.
Markon boots from QVC are very comfy.

Elegran Thu 30-Jun-11 11:45:01

I used to make myself the Cosyfeet kit shoes when they first started out. They were pretty good, and not difficult to make, but they didn't work out much cheaper than readymade. Then the business changed hands and they concentrated more on foot aids and readymades than kit shoes, and started offering peculiar colour combinations. Also, the soles (now flatter than previously) seemed to wear out faster, and I was always undoing the welts to replace the soles.
