I really would love to wear black leggings under a knee length dress, but don't know whether, at 59 years old, I'd look like 'mutton dressed up as lamb'!!!!! What do you think? Does anyone else wear them? confused

Try wearing leggings at home first and get comfortable with them before venturing out if you're unsure. And just watch when you're in the High Street - you'll soon spot someone who looks far worse than you imagine you do.

Hattie64 - you made me laugh out loud, my OH thinks I've gone mad! Think I share your sentiments. I actually bought two pairs of black leggings (God knows why I bought two) about a year ago to go with a rather tight fitting long top I bought from Next on a whim. I have worn one pair once, in fact the label is still on the other pair. I'm 63 about 5ft 1 and slim (OH would say skinny, but then he would) but I'm not convinced about 'the look'. Maybe I will try again with a looser top. But I'll tell you this I won't be sporting a pair of Doc Martin boots either. Perhaps you could give the leggings a try with something less threatening on your feet!

Well, bought me leggings from Markies today! £7.50 they were and all I have to do now is get myself a nice wee frock to go with them! I think I can only do this gradually, though...but I will do it...! hmm

Hattie64 Fri 12-Aug-11 19:50:34

leggings and Doc Martin boots, blimey I would look like a right buggar if I went out like that. Still not convinced.

GoldenGran Fri 12-Aug-11 18:45:23

Got them from Primark. Baggy, Thick thockth and Doc Martens wont do it for me, have thick calvth. May try baggy boots!grin

Goldengran treat yourself to some really jazzy socks, they will look really cool with your legging and be a right talking point when you take your boots off.

greenmossgiel Fri 12-Aug-11 12:00:53

Where did you get yours from GoldenGran?

Baggy Fri 12-Aug-11 11:20:37

Thick thockth and Doc Marten boots? wink

GoldenGran Fri 12-Aug-11 10:46:15

My granddaughter works in Peacock's - she gets a 40% off voucher now and again for friends and family. Think I'll have a wee look anyway, because I do quite like their stuff sometimes!

glassortwo Thu 11-Aug-11 23:51:23

glamma There is alot of young stuff but I have got some great bargains especially holiday clothes, little tops and a few holiday dresses, depends when you are in sometimes you manage to find lots to your taste other times nothing at all.

glammanana Thu 11-Aug-11 23:43:36

glassortwo Thu 11-Aug-11 23:36:45

Got a few long tops in the next sale, have a look at the new season its just come into store.

glassortwo Thu 11-Aug-11 23:35:07

Have a look on Peacocks online, they have had some nice long tops in store,
I love my leggings with long tops/dresses and long jumpers and boots in the winter.

glammanana Thu 11-Aug-11 23:28:45

Have a look at primark they have some cheaper dresses that go well with leggings, also Tu at Sainsbury's when they have their 25% discount sale;I
get mine from there as they tend to be quite roomy on top(if you know what I mean)The charity shops have some fab bargains and look at the car boot sales, but you have to get there early as all the nice stuff is bought up early and resold on E-Bay

Oh my bum's near the back of my knees now! Don't know how that'll make me look in a pair of leggings, but I'm sure I'll be just tickety-boo! I'm having problems finding the short dresses to go with them though. Any ideas - as cheap as possible, please?

Oldgreymare Thu 11-Aug-11 19:46:13

I wore leggings the last time'round until I heard the lovely Maureen Lipman say that she did too until she saw her back view in a mirror. Looked at my back view and was horrified...... bum had dropped ( to match sagging arms etc!). Each year more sagging, now my knees look just like my Mum's did.
I suppose a long top would hide a multitude of sins not to mention a sagging posterior....... maybe I'll see what's around as so many of you think they are so good!

Acheron Wed 10-Aug-11 19:48:49

Well I'm 64 and I wear them with a mid-thigh woollie dress in Winter or with a long linen top in the summer. Not sure how the bust comes into it. smile

Hattie64 Wed 10-Aug-11 19:39:46

I have never had the courage to wear a pair. Are they really OK for the over 60's. My daughter laughed out loud when I suggested it to her. Nice that isn't it. She said my bust was too big??? Well theyr'e not big, they haven't reached my knees yet.

jangly Wed 10-Aug-11 17:10:39

I've shrunk Greenmoss.

Well, heightwise.

Acheron Wed 10-Aug-11 17:01:44

Leggings are brilliant. Great to wear on long plane trips. You're never too old. Just make sure the top is long enough to cover the thighs and isn't too tight. Black is best. In the Winter I wear them with Uggs.

borstalgran Wed 10-Aug-11 14:59:47

Leggings are great. Borstal Boy doesn't like them, but so what! They come up to your waist, so no muffin overspill; they look good with long tops and boots (no bum length, please); and they are so comfy yet smart. Go, grans, they beat the hell out of jeans, - and never need ironing - what's not to like!

glammanana Tue 09-Aug-11 22:41:20

golden get some calf length boots, preferably slouch type that have a thick
chunky type heel and you are fit to go ! so go girl

goldengirl Tue 09-Aug-11 21:32:01

You've persuaded me GoldenGran. We can both go out in our leggings and to hell with what people might think; we'll be comfy and look good smile

greenmossgiel Tue 09-Aug-11 19:40:25

I never wear heels anyway, JessM. DH isn't as tall as me as it is, and I'm sure he's shrunk a bit! Nice flat pumps or boots sound like the order of the day? hmm
