Can anyone recommend some nice black opaque tights plse? Like all things M & S their tights seem to have reduced in quality and I do hate shiny tights - if you have fat legs like me it makes them look worse.sad

Mishap grin. I remember how surprised (disappointed) a boyfriend was when he discovered I had taken to wearing tights rather than the equally dreaded stockings...

I can't remember the last time I wore tights hate the things with a passion , fortunately my legs are presentable and nearly always lightly tanned as I tend to wear shorts/dresses in the warmer months so no need ever to wear the dreaded things... don't own a pair and haven't for 30 odd years. In the Winter I find footless leggings ideal for wearing with boots so much simpler I just tuck them into my socks and pull on my boots.. simples..

One thing I've always wondered about is why women wear tights under trousers , I see it all the time and can't imagine why its necessary why? why? why?

Grossi Sat 12-Nov-11 14:30:53

Tanith are you sure they aren't wearing the equally dreadful "popsox" under their trousers? grin grin

tanith Sat 12-Nov-11 14:41:31

Grossi maybe you are right I hadn't thought of it if I'm honest.. I read my post back and realised that it sounded very OTT , each to their own and I'm sure many ladies wear tights often and are perfectly happy to do so , sorry if I sounded like I was rubbishing the wearing of tights ladies...
Its been a pet hate of mine for many years..

I hate tights too, I have a tum and they roll down under it and make me feel extremely uncomfortable.

I do like to go bare legged for summer and wear skirts, however my legs are a bit of a mess, I can hide the varicose veins with a skirt length of about 26 inches but have red thread veins on my ankles.

Would leg foundation be any good or those products you read in the mags, what about creams for piles would that help ?

Annobel Fri 13-Jul-12 19:35:30

I don't think I have ever work socks in July but today... And I usually wear sandals from May onwards - have a nice new pair languishing unworn.

Anagram Fri 13-Jul-12 20:08:30

gillykm, I don't think pile cream would do anything for thread veins. It sounds as though you need waterproof camouflage makeup which is used for scars, birthmarks etc. Boots used to sell it, but don't think they do any more. I know Argos has a camouflage makeup kit - when I've posted this I'll have a look and see if I can post a link.

Anagram Fri 13-Jul-12 20:14:21

Couldn't see it in the Argos catalogue, maybe they don't stock it any more, but here's a link to Amazon where you should find something suitable.

Obviously nobody on Granset gets cold feet and legs. I live in my tights. I am wearing some as I write, despite the weather forecasts, it is not particularly warm where I am. In winter I add extra pairs of socks.

I find the best thick tights are Sainsburies, otherwise John Lewis. M&S tights, on the rare occasions I have bought them, have been too short in the leg. i did find that John Lewis recalibrated their tights a few years ago and shortened the legs on the medium size so that despite being medium in girth I need to buy large for leg length.

gma, same here, hate tights with a vengeance. If it is really cold here in the Swiss mountains, I'll wear cotton leggings under trousers. Can't bear nylon, crimplene all those artificial materials (:

Anagram Fri 07-Sept-12 19:03:16

FlicketyB, I'm the same as you. And I don't care how naff people think they are, knee-highs are my staple footwear all year round. (Not with skirts or dresses, I hasten to add! blush).

I love tights, I always enjoy getting back into tights season.
Having tried many over the years, I always go back to M&S super comfortable.
I also buy snags for the gorgeous colours, but do tend to find them on the big side.

Calendargirl Sat 14-Oct-23 07:24:29

12 year old thread resurrected.

PollyMay Sat 14-Oct-23 07:24:52

Goodness, some names from the past on this very old thread!

If the OP is still interested, Tesco opaque tights are pretty good.

karmalady Sat 14-Oct-23 07:37:56

I have just bought some additional new tights from snag, the most comfortable I ever had, no inclination to wrinkle or fall down. I bought opaque black and some coloured tights

Don`t let the model photos put you off, I am size 16 and only 4` 10 and bought size E, they are perfect. They have many height and hip combinations. It does mean that I now wear the lovely dresses and skirts that I have made. I bought a variety, 80 denier, bamboo, merino

Marydoll Sat 14-Oct-23 08:07:28

I suspect the post from ChloeTaylor may be spam, hence the resurrected thread!

I did have a look at Gypsy tights, but was not daft enough to use the hyperlink!

M0nica Sat 14-Oct-23 08:13:03

I have no problem with tights. They stay in place and do not wrinkle. i find them very comfortable. I used to buy them in Waitrose now buy them in Superdrug or Sainsburies.

I suffer from cold feet and legs and wear them all the time, under trousers as well as with skirts

Norah Sat 14-Oct-23 17:55:22

I find tights unattractive, but I wear them for warmth with jeans and trousers, socks over so nobody can see anyway. Fit well.

RosiesMaw Sat 14-Oct-23 18:53:50

2011!!!
So many familiar names Anagram, Granjura bagitha, mishap some of you still here too!

Primrose53 Sat 14-Oct-23 19:14:56

I seldom wear tights but when I do they are opaque black, plum or forest green.

I find that charts on the back of tights packets are meaningless. I took some back to Boots recently because according to the chart they should have fitted me but they didn’t. I am 5’3” and they were far too short.

I like Charnos tights, not cheap but great quality.
