What are you wearing - to stay warm?

It has arrived at last. Winter. Sitting here next to the radiator, typing with cold fingers.
"Style and beauty" not top of my list when it is this cold. Debated whether to put this under "Health".
But in my C/H well insulated house, in which I have closed all curtains and internal doors to help temp, I am wearing:
Cotton vesty thing, merino long sleeved jumper (Katmandu, I bought it in NZ), tomato coloured fleece plus cotton leggings and fleece trousers. And the usual underwear and socks.
And I still have cold hands.
What to other gransnetters wear to keep warm (or try to) when shlepping around the house?

It might be ok where you are but I'm in NE Scotland, weather's dull dreary wet & not very warm. I've even got the fire laid in case I need it later. grin

To make it worse I woke up this morning with a streaming cold so having to put off my visit to DGC. & can't visit OH in hospital, who's too confused to be able to understand why I won't be in today.

Just feel in need of a bit of pampering.

It's September!!! It's not cold!

posie Mon 15-Sept-14 12:22:06

I'm currently wearing a hot bottle tucked down the front of my jumper smile & very cosy it is too.

Another example of a spammer resurrecting an old thread to try for some "free" advertising. If you look at the OP - written in December 2011.

I think you mean to stay cool!

It's still warm here in Essex and set to get warmer this week. Up to 25 degrees again sunshine

I'm happy that spring is well on the way here and I am hoping I shan't need any of the thick jerseys or thermal socks that kept me snug in the winter. With luck, there will be no more morning frosts although I am told not to plant out seedlings until Labour Day (end of October) so there is still a risk. I folded and stored the blanket that I had put on top of the duvet about a month ago but am still wearing long-sleeved pyjamas at night. I am so looking forward to summer and became almost jealous when I saw a thread on GN complaining about the heat only a month or so ago.

Long sleeved, scarf, boots jacket... then I used a very comfy and thick blanket.

Keeping warm!

Best ever, and even possible to keep looking vaguely glamorous - is the silk underwear from Patra - now on line www.patra.com. Wade thro' the dire fashion and find the slik leggings - a dream as they feel really light and cosy - any of the vests - camisoles - long or short sleeved - socks - and especially the liner gloves - to wear on their own or under gloves. Promise I'm not on commission - just changed my life!

A camisole, a thermal vest which is nice and long, a pair of jogging bottoms, tights, fleecy slippers and an aran cardigan. I wear more indoors than out as my husband doesn't like the heating on and is always warm.

Thin T shirt and cotton trousers because the house is like a furnace, DH likes it warm.

Sewsilver Tue 17-Jan-12 23:11:56

Tucked in, waist and trousers into socks vital. Wearing much of all the above plus huddling under an electric plug in fleece blanket( bliss and cheap). Hate the cold and today heating has decided to pack up in half the house. Man might be able to look at it tomorrow or "sometime next week" . Not sure looking will warm the house or me up much hmm

Winter draw(er)s on I see. I hope you are all wearing your semmets( em, bagitha, supernana, annobel et al will understand) into which you were sewn at the beginning of November?

I do think being tucked in is paramount - is it an age thing that I don't like feeling "untucked" round the middle?

Sook Tue 17-Jan-12 22:12:55

Magic knickers! Pulled right up to my bra. OK I know that some of you are lucky enough not to need them.
Thick woollen tights topped with a pair of thermal socks.
Vest (tucked down the tights),
Lycra leggings,
Long sleeved cotton T shirt,
Polo neck sweater,
Body warmer,
Neck cowl,
Fur lined boots,
Wooly scarf and that's just for indoors.

Not too cold here so only wearing t shirt, jogging bottoms and cardy. I do like my electric blanket at night, it's not been cold enough to leave on all night yet but lovely to get into a warm bed.

jeni Mon 16-Jan-12 17:47:57

Like marylin Monroe no5!.

Gally Mon 16-Jan-12 17:33:47

Usual stuff - jeans, shirt, jumper but have put on indoor-Uggs as a concession to frosty conditions and am just about to light a fire, as it's very cold -2 all day. Brrrh grin

I did an evening trip in a balloon and we were told to wear something warm. It was a balmy evening in early autumn and I was quite warm enough in a lightweight anorak, lined with lightweight fleece. It really wasn't that cold.

JessM Mon 16-Jan-12 15:37:44

someone was out in a hot air balloon here this afternoon! How cold must that have been. I understand as you go up in those things the temp. drops like a stone.

shysal Mon 16-Jan-12 15:35:47

I am NEVER cold! I went for a walk today wearing jeans and long sleeved shirt, and was soon sweating. I had been unable to apply make-up prior to going out because my face was running with sweat as it does most mornings.
As mentioned in 'mattress topper' thread, I have been like this for at least 12 years, and even before that I was always a hot body. This weather suits me fine, and I have been more comfortable at night with only my starched cotton sheet for covering. I do put on the central heating low for a while morning and evening in this weather to avoid frozen pipes, but never in the bedroom.

Yummygran Mon 16-Jan-12 15:25:54

We've just had a whopping gas bill for the central heating, so will be putting on the layers when I get home from work!!! I am always cold in the evenings, we live in a Victorian apartment so the rooms have stupidly high ceilings. So when I eventually sit down to watch TV I have a lovely soft warm blanket that I wrap myself in!! The funny things is when I get into bed I get very hot...not that sort of hot blush, so we sleep with the window open, even on very cold nights..not sure we will tonight though, it was -6 when I scraped the car this morning.

greenmossgiel Mon 16-Jan-12 15:20:17

Bootee slippers, thick socks, warm trousers, long jumper-thing and thick cardigan. VERY cold today, here. The frost hasn't lifted at all.

Butternut Mon 16-Jan-12 15:10:00

I am now down to just vest and t-shirt, (dumped the pink thing), jeans (sans long-johns) and socks - warming up at last!
