What on earth to wear to wedding?

Right............just got an invitation to the wedding of a friends daughter, going to be in July, the bride and family are laid back and boho - wedding reception will be very shabby chic - under normal circumstances I would wear a smart outfit with a big hat but somehow feel this look will not work on this occasional. I'm a 14/16 - 5'8 - thick around the middle (being 70) and wondering what on earth to wear! Look ridiculous in fascinators - can't wear heels - then think "oh for goodness sake - who the heck is going to be looking at me"! However, really want to look nice.........any suggestions?

I was stuck with shopping with him Nanado so it seemed easiest to get him interested. The animal print and amber sounds lovely! Actually my son used to be the same, I once bought a wonderful floorlength green coat at his behest.

I have been to very few weddings. Years pass normally all wedding free. We have been invited to 2 this year. Consecutive weekends in July! Just when i had decided I had enough clothes and should not buy any more. hmm
Just to add to above suggestions - if you are quite talk pashminas might be worth considering. or one at any rate. Can add dash to an outfit and keep you warm if day is chilly. I had a lovely new one from East for xmas grin

Just wear what you would usually wear, but ditch the hat.

I've just noticed how old this thread is, odd that it's been resurrected. It did occur to me that the suggestions given as to advice for an outfit for a wedding, would probably be the same today, six years on. Does that mean once we reach a certain age, we are no longer slaves to the ever changing face of fashion? Quite liberating imo smile

Hey Jammie,

Your height is pretty good. Why don't you go with a Gown or a Lehanga?
