Does anyone remember a Coty perfume named 'Chypre'? I remember loving it.It had what I think they call woody tones.
If you remember it, do you know of any current perfumes that are similar?

Tabu by Dana was my favourite, spicy, heady and wicked - just how I hoped to be but somehow never managed it!
A friend of mine loves a Yardley perfume, the name of which I can't remember, but its like a fresh ferny smell which develops into something more mysterious. Any ideas? - she's not very well and I'd love to get her some.

When ever I went to Spain I brought this back for my mother in law, bless her she still had two bottles when she passed away last year.

Perfumes! When I was at university I was given a bottle of Youth Dew. I loved the smell on everyone else. Went to a seminar wearing it for the first time. The tutor said " sorry, I think the cleaners have been heavy handed with the disinfectant to day." Needless to say I never wore it again.

Miss Dior has changed twice since the 1970s version. Still nice though!

specki4eyes, I remember Tabu, takes me back to being a teenager in Spain, I'd love to get hold of a bottle of that again, such memories! I also loved Femme and Madame Rochas. Another perfume I remember, sadly discontinued Cialenga by Balenciaga and Jolie Madame, I think by Balmain. Does anyone else think a lot of newer perfumes are not very memorable? I still love the old classics such as Mitsouko and Channel No. 5.

QVC was selling Pehaligon fragrances.Anyone like one of theirs? I liked White Shoulders when younger. Now wear L'Air du Temps.

Anne58 Fri 29-Mar-13 19:52:22

Hate to mention it, but there are 2 Avon fragrances that I used to buy as a "cheap" scent for work that always got compliments, more so in fact than the expensive ones that I kept for non work days!

Summer White & Little White Dress

BAnanas You can still get Jolie Madame. I get it from Burgins in York - they will post it out to you.

I once asked at a local Mecca whilst having a dance with some unknown lad 'Can you smell my Charlie?' He looked shocked and didn't ask for a second dance. Charlie was my brand new perfume and I was very proud of it.

I used to love l'air du temps! Env American Anther nina ricci one too forgotten name of.

I love Paris by yes st Laurent have done for years it is so gentle and also like Elle by them too and Chanel no 5.

Find eau de parfum lasts so much longer!
At moment have eau de toilette in Chanel and Elle but only lasts couple hours.

Used to love topaze by Avon years ago ! And wishing. Talking about 40 years ago while at school.

Anyone remember either of them?

whenim64 Sat 30-Mar-13 10:01:35

I remember Topaz, celeb and I also used to like L'Air du Temps. Ih ave another Nina Ricci one at the moment - Ricci, which is lovely. The bottle's a bit depleted since my twin grandsons splashed it all over themselves and the dog - 'can you smell us, nana?' grin

nightowl Sat 30-Mar-13 10:11:30

Flower grin

I remember Topaz as well! I loved it and I thought I was the height of sophistication wearing it. Much later I loved Chloe perfume but I smelt the original again recently and it almost knocked me out. I know there is a new Chloe but haven't tried it. I can't seem to find a perfume that I really love these days sad

nightowl Sat 30-Mar-13 10:12:25

Did the dog appreciate it when? grin

whenim64 Sat 30-Mar-13 10:29:49

I couldn't tell nightowl. She will put up with anything they want to do with her. A few minutes after the perfume splashing, she had a pirate's eye patch wrapped round her head grin

NfkDumpling Sat 30-Mar-13 13:17:59

Oh, I'd forgotten Topaz - that was mine.

celebgran Sat 30-Mar-13 15:53:50

Pleased several remember topaze we must be about same vintage!

goldengirl Sat 30-Mar-13 18:11:01

Kiku? In a yellow ball? Loved Charlie in my yoof and still like Y by Yves St Laurent but can only get it on line. When I was working in the courts I used Paris also Yves St Laurent and apparently if people wanted to know where I was they followed the smell - just like the Bisto kids!!!! There's so much choice out there now. I don't like the celebrity perfumes but the 'old' names like Chanel and good old YSL are still a draw.

Galen Sat 30-Mar-13 20:33:35

Galen Sat 30-Mar-13 20:35:27

I currently use No5 Coco and jo Malone wild bluebell with occasional Joy thrown in.
Not all at once I add!

BlueSky Sat 30-Mar-13 21:37:44

Galen I have used Coco, No 5, Obsession, but there is nothing quite like Shalimar!
