If you want thicker, fuller looking hair...

My once luxuriant hair has become finer and drier over recent years, so I'm always on the lookout for hair products to help. I recently read a recommendation for Charles Worthington Instant Amplifying Volume Treatment and to my amazement, it works!
I've tried lots of different sprays, almost all of which haven't worked particularly well and some dried my hair out even more. You put this on in the shower instead of a conditioner, rinse it out and my hair felt thicker even after towel drying. It blow dried into shape easily and is soft and shiny. The results are so unbelievable I felt I had to share with other Gransnetters. It costs £14.99 in Boots, which is expensive - but I have wasted a lot more on products which didn't work.

I posted in January about Grow Gorgeous, a hair thickening serum available from Boots. The difference in my hair has been amazing. Last year I was in such despair with the thinness of my hair and bald spots that I had a consultation at Lucinda Ellery about a hair replacement system but because of the cost I decided to think about it. Not long afterwards I read about Grow Gorgeous and gave it a go. It most definitely works for me.

Oh well, back to the drawing board grin

Doing that makes me feel sick.

As mine is currently very short, Beewitch, I don't think it would make much difference!

An easy and free way is to sit down, bend your head over and rough blow dry your hair upside down, starting with the roots. When it's almost dry, bring your head back - and then just finish off blow dry or whatever et voila! Nice volumised hair. I have long hair and it works well. You can spend a fortune on hair products, and it's a bit hit and miss.

My hairdresser has introduced me to a Clynol product called Thicken and it really does make my hair look thicker and more bouncy. I bought a bottle from her and have since discovered that it's available on Amazon more cheaply.

My hair used to be very thick too and is dry and lost its bounce after the winter. Also colour fading, so every 2-3 months I use a L'Oreal colouring cream, Dedicace. Not sure if you can get it in the UK. Says without oxydant or ammonia.
This seems to make my hair shinier thicker and bouncier

I think this was mentioned but has now disappeared.

Elvive Fibrology Thickening Shampoo. They also do a conditioner. I thought I'd try it as it sort of sticks to the hair follicles so making it appear thicker.

It does seem to make a bit of a difference. I went away and stopped using it and my hair looked awful after a few days so I was back on it when I came home. I don't bother even with the conditioner just the shampoo.

Worth a try

A new hairdresser recently told me to stop using conditioner! So, now I use any old shampoo, then a quick blast of styling spray and blow dry, and hey presto, it looks much thicker. She said if you feel the ends only need a bit of conditoner, then when you comb it out after washing do a quick spray of leave -in conditioner on the very ends.

AFAIC , one of the best treatments for thinning hair are scalp massages.
Either done yourself or by a professional .!

I think larger Boots stores stock it but I bought it online and collected from my local Boots.

Looks interesting. Can you only get it via the internet, though?

I have always had fine hair but lots of it but due to stress and age it has thinned considerably with my scalp becoming very noticeable. I must have tried every new product that has come on the market to make it look and feel thicker but none have lived up to the advertising expectations. However I have just discovered a serum called Grow Gorgeous which I bought from Boots - not cheap at £29.99 but it is meant to last 2 months. The blurb says you will notice a difference in 8 days but need to use for 4 months to get the full benefit. I have been using it for about 3 weeks and have noticed a significant improvement in the feel and look of my hair. I never usually endorse products but thinning hair is big issue for me and as this seems to be working I thought I would share product this with fellow sufferers.

Avon do a couple of volumising shampoos which definitely add a bit of volume for me. And they are inexpensive.
They also do a volumising conditioner.

I cannot tell a lie - I felt the first 2 posts on this thread read very like an advertisement - apologies!

Grannyknot Tue 19-Nov-13 22:00:07

Ruth the comments about advertising apply to the post by 'Jasmine mane' which you will see was deleted, not to your original post ...

Your advice it seems was most welcome ...smile

I haven't been on here for a while - and what a suspicious lot you are! Naively I was trying to be helpful to people with fine, dry hair. I work as a Uni Lecturer and have NEVER even worked in the commercial sector, let alone advertising. Sheesh.

Hey ladies, you are going to love this one, I have used all the products possible on my thick, fine and unruly hair, the only thing that really works is washing up liquid. Good quality of course..... occasionally I go mad and use a conditioner. My hair doesn't look too bad considering.
Oh and yes forgot to add that I have blonde highlights, my hairdresser thinks I use a good shampoo........shock

Caramac Mon 04-Nov-13 19:10:36

I was going to mention a product my salon owner daughter recommended to me but am concerned that it might be advertising.....
My hair has always been fine but had thinned even more. DD said its down to the medication I take. I have kept my hair short for years now because of this but as I am ageing - just a bit you know - I wanted a softer look.
The product I use is a shampoo and conditioner not available in the shops, salon and online.
It has made a noticeable difference and I am growing my hair a bit longer.
Sophie Ellis-Bexter uses it I read somewhere. It is recommended for chemically treated/weakened hair and also for those of a more mature age.
It's not cheap to buy but lasts ages so vfm.
PM me if you want to know, don't PM me if you're not interested.

Ladies, ladies! Naming products? You'll be up before the GNHQ advertising standards committee.

sunseeker Mon 04-Nov-13 11:10:40

I did buy a small bottle of this (the size you can take on a plane). Very expensive and to be honest no better than my usual Pantene shampoo and conditioner.

rosesarered Mon 04-Nov-13 11:05:46

Dont know if this is legit or not, it certainly is an advertised product, whether it works for you or not is another matter, but cant put it to the test because I cant find it available to buy in the shops here.

Looks unlikely, graces !

gracesmum Sun 03-Nov-13 22:07:29

So marigold1 and ruthdpl - still advocating your "wonder product"???
